These days, I find RLM outdated compared to the Fandom Menace. Fandom Menace aren't good activists, but they are fun to watch as they squirm and writhe from consuming modern movie slop. Best of the Worst only confirms what I think of 80s B movies, absolute trash instead of failed attempts to make good, cheap films. Does anyone want a remaster of Elves or The Jar or whatever trash movie they watched?

Hell yeah. Every movie deserves to be restored and preserved (NB4 a smart ass say's "What about movies with CP, Bruno! Huh! Also, don't look at my internet history, okay?")

I think it's simply a case of them getting old and being burnt out.

while there have been BoTW i havent been able to finish in one sitting, and only a single one i cant think of that i never did finish, i disagree with you guys; i had no problem finishing it. sure, it was by far not their best, but there was nothing horribly wrong about it. wasnt as funny or engaging as previous ones, but wasnt dry or boring to me.
Yeah, it was fine. But I did skip the parts where they were saying the anti-TV thing was all about the church nagging to get money. It felt like there was nothing to bitch about so they blew up one bit out of proportion.

You would think these guys, of all people, would be experts in this mini-genre of Sunday School short videos, and what they're for. It's almost always a kid doing something he doesn't know is bad, and an adult has to point out the harm it causes. (The other version is they know it was bad to begin with, then something terrible happens and they learn the lesson the hard way.)

Yeah, the woman came off as a nag the way it's edited. But you could hear the other things she was pointing out were real problems for kids: Slick was scheduling his day around TV, he wasn't doing his homework, he was watching violent things he shouldn't, he wasn't socializing, etc.

You could replace TV with Internet and the lesson gets instantly modernized. But this was produced for the first generation that had TVs as a common household appliance, instead of a luxury. The church was decades ahead of "scientific studies" in predicting the harm caused by everything from TV, to rap music, to normalizing homosexuality, etc.

But the RLM guys aren't Christians, instead they carry a residual annoyance for the Moral Majority trying to stifle the kind of movies they like to watch. So they can't give the church credit for anything, even good intentions.

And yes, she mentioned tithes and offerings. That wasn't the main thrust of her objections, it's one moral point in a long list of Christian values and actions. I bet she also brought up skipping church to watch TV at some point, which would also be a normal concern for a Christian lesson, and they left it out.

You can disagree with Christianity all you want, but the worldview is cohesive and comprehensive. No part of the Christian life falls outside Christian morality, including your finances. Training kids to be good moral Christians will include that, it isn't a money-sucking scam unique to VHS puppet shows.

And the fact that she didn't need to define "tithes and offerings" means the kids watching would already have got the usual lessons about finances... which also includes a 3rd category: saving money on top of your tithes and offerings. Standard Christian teaching at the time was that you should be able to live on 80% of your income, giving away and saving the other 20%. It's a call to a thrifty lifestyle, and it works best if you learn to plan for it while young.

Slick cutting into that thrift for TV rightly gets called out, just like some other VHS probably did for video games, makeup, clothes, toys, or whatever.

Kids are not smart enough to realize they're addicted, or that they're wasting their time when they should be learning or growing. They do need to be nagged to grow up properly. Any parent would recognize this need, but here we have 4 childless guys reliving their childish annoyance that Mom told them to stop watching horror movies, that TV will "rot your brains".

(I assume Josh is childless, I don't know. This is a rare case where the conversation would have benefited from Jack's input over one of the regulars, since Jack is a parent.)

RLM have the Gen X trait of thinking they're counterculture without realizing all their 'subversive' views are now 100% mainstream.

They got burnt out by watching trash media. At this point, it's laughing at poor tapes for being poor tapes. This media is shitty, but it couldn't afford to be otherwise.

And who is willing to pay for restoration of bad VHS tapes? The free market had already decided decades ago they weren't worth the effort.

There was one WotW with Mike celebrating in the thumbnail that was so shit I just gave up. Even the thumbnail was wack.

BotW is often such a mixed bag. If the videos are awful, it sucks. If the panel isn't balanced well, it sucks. Josh should only be allowed in RE:View.

You all talking about "oh I couldn't get through it". Sure, not every episode is a laugh riot start to end but I've never found any of them so bad that I had to close it in disgust.

Tends to coincide with them making fun of Christians.

Buncha ninnies.

I'm actually going through a Best of the Worst chronological playlist to watch as I work, and I just got to Episode 28: Alienator, Alien from the Deep, and Hands of Steel, and god damn that's a good episode. So many good jokes, especially during Hands of Steel.
-"It wasn't particularly big... but it felt hard"
-Jay digging his own grave with the buff men in LA joke, that led to several jokes about calling him gay
-Rich calling a device in the movie the "Tranny-Tracker 5000"

Good times

is AVGN RLM a lolcow?

No, they don't generate drama or do stupid things online. But they've been doing these shows for 10 years now, it's hard to keep quality up that long.

I don't think they're really falling off, it's just that sometimes an episode isn't as funny as others. It's the same for other things like MST3K too, sometimes an episode is just OK instead of an instant classic. This is literally just 3-4 friends watching random movies without a guarantee of fun or having something funny to say.

I do think the small gimmicks help the episodes more than doing random WotW crapshoots, though. The Christmas episodes are some of my favorites, maybe that's helped by how rarely they happen, but it also provides a structure and a theme to riff on. They should bring back the Battle of the Genres, judging which video is the best representation of its purported genre, and things like that.

No. Sure, I've been noticing a decline in quality with their videos, but RLM is still all things considered very consistent with quality content. Aside from the likes of JonTron and E;R, RLM is still the only content creator that still puts up entertaining content and is a far cry from other e-celebs (some that are otherwise documented for being total lolcows), especially the ones we respected once upon a time up until recently.

They need to do something challenging I think.

They've complained about how hard it is to make their movies, but I'm starting to think that we got better BotW's because they became more of a break when they are doing the more difficult stuff.

Now BOTW is the main focus, and they're just going through the motions.

No, BOTW/RLM hasn't become awful. It's quickly becoming boring and mediocre though, which is arguably worse.

You named the other two youtube dudes that have managed to make me laugh out loud aside from RLM.

I liked this episode fine, but I did do stuff around the house while it was on. It's just not an instant classic. I'm fine with them aging. Their stuff like this is still comfy to me.

ok that settles it theyre not lolcows ill be back next time they make another video people are mildly displeased with to ask it again

BoTW is a total crap shoot and always was. Sometimes they strike gold, other times it's a disaster. This is not a new development.

Why is he so hated?
He misses the point and gets lost in the weeds over explaining shit on BOTW

Gets annoyed at certain jokes or when the guys would prefer to riff instead of focusing on the garbage movies

Generally not funny and annoying

He's ugly and fat

I'm sure some have seen him be a complete dunce on social media so I guess I'll list it but doesn't really pertain to RLM itself

Take your pick out of these

I recall AIDS Moby being a turd on social media too, but he tends to be a lot more tolerable on the show.

In the end, it's just that Fatbeard is just not that entertaining and doesn't play off of the others as well.

Granted it's been over five years at least since I've looked at any of their twitters, but I recall Jack being exactly how he always was. Overly hyper/enthusiastic and wacky/zany. Maybe a bit of a consumer type too?

They both acted like redditards, that's for sure, but two different flavors of redditard. I don't know how much that might have changed since Jack went sober though. I assume Josh is exactly how he always was. He seems the type.
