I liked her well enough in the movie but, yeah, most of her stuff is so detached from the rest of the film's plot that it's bizarre. They could've at least had her get something off the president and/or pick up something from the jail during her escape that help them later (which feels like basic writing 101) but, no, none of that really serves any point.
