No she's not. She wasn't in the first game unless you're thinking of Bonnie

Incorrect, Sadie is in the first game as a bounty hunter, and in RDR2 you find that she became that way because she was raped and had her husband killed in front of her.

For the entire first half of RDR2 she’s a wreck, is typically weak and resentful, and is clearly depressed. Then she has character growth and decides to be angry and vengeful instead.

The reason why she’s forgiven as a girlboss character is because most of the women in RDR universe are not. She gets a pass because for the most part it feels earned and is still unique (grimshaw and Karen also come close to ‘girlboss’ but Grimshaw is like camp officer, and Karen is just a drunk cow who can take a hit)

I don’t mind Sadie having a chapter mission focused on her because nearly every camp character has at least one mission in the game centred around their story.

It’s also fair to just say “we’ll I don’t like characters like Sadie because aggressive women are annoying”, but then you got to own up that it’s a personal preference, and not a failed character.

Grimshaw is an abusive cunt towards the other women and even admits to being treated similarly herself earlier in her life (and that looking back she deserved it, too!) during random camp dialogue with one of them when she lays down the law. She's got some old scars on her face, as well, including a deep one at the corner of her right eye where she was probably busted wide open. Turns out that treating people violently inspires violent behavior in them.

I liked Grimshaw a lot. She was the main force keeping camp actually working. She was harsh on the women because she herself used to work in a brothel before she joined with Dutch, and then Dutch left her for younger and younger women.

She’s harsh to the women (and the men too, gets nearly into a fight with Micah, forces Arthur to bathe, gets on Pearson’s ass) because otherwise the women treat camp like a free ride, and chores/work necessary to daily life don’t get done.

A lot of it came down to the fact that they were living as outlaws with no set income or way to support themselves, and the women for the most part helped with nothing but maintaining the camp. They didn’t fight, they didn’t help with plans, at best Mary-Beth or Tilly would bring it bits of possible info; by the near-end, Karen basically disappears to die drunk in a ditch.

Grimshaw was the only thing keeping the camp working

And I was agreeing with you and pointing out that yeah, she's got a reason she's such a bitch towards everyone. Life has sucked for her.

lol
lmao even

unintentionally great way to show what kind of people glaze the basic bitch girlboss
next up, here's why Abbie from Tlou2 isn't a heckin girlboss: she feel sad and bad thing happen to her :smug:
she faces consequences as evidenced by nothing really happening to her, let me list stuff that happens to other people

But she doesn't suffer any consequences at all for her actions. If she was the reverse of Arthur she should've experienced the consequences of her violent and criminal behavior, got hurt or seriously killed. You know, like every other important in character in this entire franchise about punishment and redemption.
she does suffer a consequence of her actions. she can kiss the normal life she had before getting caught up with the gang goodbye. she doesnt get that john marston ranch happy ending (granted we know how that goes in the end but still). and also multiple times she's just acted reckless during missions and nearly getting the gang killed or herself killed. she gets shot in the final mission in pursuit of micah after all.

What I despise about Rockstar is how they tweet about Red Dead Online, yet they abandoned any chance of substantial post-launch support in favor of GTA VI. Even worse is how the GTA Online community loves to rip on how "boring" RDO is because there's no new pay-to-win toys to grief with.

This "bro everyone in the game is a shitlib bro they spend literally half the game saying like le heckin' racismerino is wrong that's totally unbased and gay literally unplayable bro if you liked this game you're a faggot shitlib oh by the way DA JOOOOZ" discourse around RDR2 is so

The mass movement to start systematically inserting of woke elements into video games and media in general is a pretty noteworthy and relevant historical event. Expecting people to ignore it is like asking people to ignore covid happening. And people talk about it all the time because it happens all the time everywhere.

Sure for games like Rockster (but certainly not all games) from a direct gameplay pov its only an occasional element. Niko only occasionally goes on an out of nowhere gay rights rant. Its not all the time. But still Rockstar has a definite pattern of writing their protagonists as stone cold killers who would blast a man for just standing in the way yet at the same time always seems to have the social justice views of a 21st century Seattle accountant. And this brings the writing down. And its something worthy of noticing.

The 'its no big deal bro' deflection is part of the reason they're eventually emboldened enough to release shit like Dustborn.

Sadie was in RDR, RDR2 just showed how she was associated with Dutch and John to begin with.

Sadie gets a pass because as I pointed out above. The girlboss quota is practically mandatory nowadays for western AAA so might as well. In terms of actual realism you could probably count the women from the entire old west period like her on your fingers if they even existed. A more 'realistic' sadie would probably be a psycho version of Abigail who would take part in the violence but still be closely associated with one or more of the men. Sadie as she's presented in the game probably would be almost akin to a space alien to real people from the time period. But of course the game will fool an entire generation of midwits into pegging her as only a modest outlier historically.

Her consequences are that she's permanently psychologically traumatized and unable to settle down and commit to a non-violent life. To quote Arthur at Beaver Hollow: "You and me, we're more ghosts than people."

In a game series all about the consequences of violence and demythologizing the wild west, Sadie gets to be a badass bounty hunter forever with zero consequence other then she's sad and gets a few ouchies.

I could accept her 'consequences' if it weren't for the fact she got off practically scot-free in a series all about past misdeeds catching up to people in horrible ways. People like Strauss, Lenny, or Grimshaw, who both created significantly fewer widows than she ever did, get tortured or killed in violent ways, while the worst thing to happen to her was incidental at best and occurred well before she became a mass murderer.

On that note, her bloodlust, apparently fueled by estrogen that gives her the ability to overpower men twice her size, is only ever directed towards total bastards who the sympathic members of the gang and their associates directly oppose, like the O'Driscolls, Pinkertons, the white devils of the US Army, and Micah. But eventually, it's replaced by pure bravery and loyalty towards her purse puppy Arthur (who incidentally has a totally 100% platonic relationship with Arthur, because Rockstar is all about respecting a Christian marriage), then John, her other male best friend.

It's as if in Goodfellas, there was a 4th female goodfella who was more violent than Pesci and took part in every criminal activity the other three did, but she never ended up killed, arrested, or harmed in any substantial way, instead helping Liotta go into witness protection before being declared his best friend in the ending monologue. No characters show any attraction towards her or seem to acknowledge her as a woman and her only flaw was being too loyal to Liotta, yet suffers no real consequences as a result of that flaw. That would be retarded, right? Completely inconsistent with the tone of movie's writing? Would it be ok if her husband was killed in a car accident?

Hey, wait a minute, wasn't there a side mission about finding all those old gunslingers for that pulp writer, only to find that every single one of the male gunslingers is a coward or a washed up loser to emasculate and photograph their corpse, except for Black Belle, the only woman, who's shown to still be a badass? Strange, it's almost like the writers had an agenda to push.

No?
Sadie does not appear at all in the first game lmao

My personal reason for disliking Sadie as a character is probably due to her complete recklessness, a flaw of hers, which could've been turned into imo great character development as she slowly learns to keep herself controlled in spite of her Trauma. Instead we get less of a Girlboss and more of just an Psychotic character that has hardly any direct consequences be given to them for their actions.

That and i find it funny from the story telling part, the double standards between the shit Sadie does and the shit Micah does. Sadie unnecessarily causes a Massacre in St Denis and neither Dutch Nor Arthur condemn her, While Micah and Arthur shoot up Strawberry and Micah is effectively condemned at every thing that he does

We're talking about Sadie now?

Say what you will about RDR2, at least the women there LOOKED like women.

There's a bit of a difference between dead O'Driscolls and dead locals. After you're done robbing the stagecoach by Strawberry with Micah he tells Arthur that they've got the money, and there's a whole bunch of dead O'Driscolls to go with it, and Arthur agrees with him that those are both very good things.

I agree that they completely abandoned RDO to coddle to adhd infested shark card retards on GTA online, but to be honest I'm fine with it at this point. RDO has moonshining, fur trading, bounty hunting etc as things to do. Other than having some dlc built around wagon raids or maybe running guns to Mexico I don't know what they could really do theme wise to make it a better western game. I also like not having an entire lobby of retards shouting on mic constantly, when I run into other players on RDO sometimes they'll aggro but most of the time it leads to some funny encounters. Last week I spotted two dudes fistfighting down in a riverbank and stole their train, then they chased me and it ended with us playing the band instruments at a moonshine bar. GTA players are either there to aggro you or run away there's almost no in between.
