Red Dead Redemption 2 was nominated for Steam's Labor of Love 2023 award. The game has not been updated in two and a half years. I imagine somebody nominated it to make a point to R* that RDR2 deserves love. I'd love to see how this develops. View attachment 5605445
Reddit has been doing this shit for the "memes". They did the same with Starfield, they won best innovator, and of course Bethesda wasn't in on the joke so that makes it funny, doesn't legitimize them at all.

So, they're meaningless. It's a popularity contest that will change nothing. Wonderful, no wonder they don't take us seriously as consumers.

R* isn't in on the joke neither. If anything, they don't care. That clown movement didn't do anything.

Didn't Rockstar push into the clown/alien movement with events, and instead of getting pissed at being trolled people just went with it?
I don't think so. I know there was an alien event with GTA Online, likely unrelated. Zelnick DID respond to #SaveRedDeadOnline by saying: "That's up to R*."

I wasn't around for that. But those clown outfits look creepy as hell. I don't like clowns.

No, the alien event I believe you're thinking of was with people in GTA Online dressing up as green and purple aliens for fun.

Huh, I thought they did something with Green vs Purple the same way they did those Ecola vs Sprunk events, but I might have imagined it. I was gone from GTA Online by that point I think.

There WAS something about aliens for GTA Online. I remember the green/purple alien fad as a flash mob of shorts.

I'm unlucky with poker this month.

The Last Stand mode, hey that's me, works if you crouch to avoid map detection, use bows, tonics and shotguns.

Back from my hiatus from RDO, I won four poker hands in a row with an amazing win of $68. New record. I should make an outfit specifically for the poker table. Something flashy with a touch of class.

If I remember correctly the RDO community used the clown event to protest the lack of updates on RDO and the alien event in the GTA community was used as a battle between good and evil as well as a good ol' fashion race war which happened because they were bored with the content Rockstar gave them.

Funny how Rockstar's two online games became a Madame de Stael quote.
One must choose in life between boredom and suffering.

It shows the obvious difference between the two communities. I love it when gaming communities cause an uproar anyway they can.

If I was around then, I would've participated somehow. Then again, I hate clowns.

*reward specific to italicized week for Valentine's Day

Notice the Outpour Emote reward. That was part of an Outlaw Battle Pass. Courtesy of PvPCat. I did neglect the Community Outfit and limited time items. Will post later.

This looks to be a good event. Not even just the Bounty Hunter part, the Valentine Day bonuses are nice. I wish they'd go the extra mile and do something festive in St. Valentine's, hence the name. I'm eyeing a wagon and the camp fast travel item discount.

You can still participate by pissing into the wind or screaming into the void. Both achieve the same result as begging Rockstar for meaningful updates to RDO. Idk why people think doing these cringey things will amount to anything other than wasted time and reddit points.

It's been said countless times and people seem to refuse to accept the reality of it, but RDO was dead in the water from day 1 because the player base and setting is drastically different than GTA. Rockstar simply isn't able to nickle and dime the setting and players the way they can GTA. You can add in all the autistic flying cars and jet powered motorcycles and get people to spend money so they can roll down main street in a tank and grief people. Can't do that in a wild west setting.

The options for monetization are limited unless they wanted to lean into the half assed sim/RP nature of the game that players of Red Dead want. Which Rockstar never will. Hell they made it much harder to simply grind out gold because players showed they were more than patient enough to just play the game until they got what they wanted, and even that failed because people still aren't buying shit. They just complain online while continuing to play in an empty sandbox and expecting a leopard to change its spots.

Picked up the game a while back; right now, I have all 5 roles for RDO unlocked, and... I'm having some trouble figuring out what to do. Naturalist gives out a few cool looking animal pelt outfits, but said outfits are a bit too warm to wear normally, and Harriet isn't exactly my favorite character. I never was great at gunplay, so Bounty Hunter is giving me trouble. Had trouble finding collectables for Collector. Moonshiner and Trader just didn't interest me, frankly.

Granted, I'm going to try and stick with the game for a bit longer; I do want to get at least some fun out of it. So... does anyone have suggestions on what I could do?

Raise awareness. In execution, it did not achieve anything from R*. But, it was SOMETHING that shows people's passion for a product.

Their priorities for online gaming has turned their open worlds into malls to monetize and grief their playerbase.

Get mods and stick to single player? Cause with online you're just gonna do the exact same things over and over again with zero variety, with less detail and more chances to get griefed, so you might as well just play single player. The appeal to online, at this point, is being able to run around as your own OC and that's it. Like I'm usually pretty damn good at doing the same shit over and over and coming up with some sort of RP to make it feel sorta fresh. Otherwise I wouldn't have as many hours in the TES/fallout franchises as I do. But with this? Brother idk. There's not much to do in either mode, so might as well just mod the one that had more effort put into it.

So basically you're agreeing that literally nothing of worth was actually achieved? Because Rockstar is definitely aware of passion players have. Between the money the game made before online, and the amount of hours still being poured into the game, they know. They just don't give a fuck because GTA is still making money hand over fist thanks to Shark Cards and shit.

Like I said. Red Dead will not see any amount of support because the setting is much harder to monetize and the player base has proven multiple times that it's happy to grind through whatever nerfs they implement as well as continue playing the same bare-bones "roles".

It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation for players. Either you continue playing the game knowing not a single fucking thing will ever be added, or you quit playing and Rockstar decides the game is TRULY dead and just stops entirely.

NakeyJakey had a change of heart on a lot of RDR2 after playing on PC, with mods with auto aim turned off.
His section in the original video he made on RDR2 pretty much hit the nail right on the head with regard to the strict mission structures and inability to 'ad-lib' anything or deviate from the script in my opinion. He also was right in criticizing the bullshit lawmen mechanics were somehow despite the limitations of technology in the 1890s, every lawman in the state somehow has a cellphone and you can kill some dude out in the wilderness with not one witness and somehow they're on your ass like white on rice. That kind of shit makes sense in the context of GTA V given that everyone has a phone and police can communicate via radio but not in RDR2's setting. I still think RDR2 is probably the best game I've ever played but those two issues really dragged it down.

I just chalked the law alerts up to a game mechanic thing, otherwise the only crimes that would ever get attention would be ones committed in a town or if there happened to be a witness you couldn't gun down. Even the GTA games will get a player a warning level if you kill a lone hiker in the middle of nowhere.

As far as not being able to go "off-script" in missions, that's hardly unique to RDR. Most open sandbox games are like that, where missions are structured in such a way to be done in a specific order and with specific endings to tell the story the writers want to tell. There are a few that are just basically random event generators without anything more than the barest structure of a story, but that just comes down to a balancing act. At least with GTA5 and RDR2 the player could pick an ending (kill Trevor, kill Michael, save both) or decide on Arthur's honor level and what he was going to do (high honor, save John/high honor, go back for the money/low honor, save John/low honor, go back for the money) and that decision did have some repercussions in the epilogue, mainly in dialog but also in the showdown with Micah.

R* decided to tell the story of Arthur's redemption and how John was given a chance, just like how RDR told the story of John's redemption and how Jack was given a chance. I was happy with it.
