On the subject of laptops, this is a good guideline. Once you have a budget you can get an idea of what you could buy with that money and how the prices/specs of your local retailers stack up against these:

"AAA" titles nowadays weight some 40-80 GB nowadays, and shit like Red Dead Redemption or Call of Booty can suck up over 150 GB. I wouldn't recommend less than 1 TB HDD (or an equivalent HDD/SSD set up) if you're going to keep up with mainstream gaming and the laptop is going to be your main platform.

But yeah, if you mostly stick to indies or sprite based games even 500 GB will last you a long time.

Good to know, thanks! A laptop might be a better idea because I don’t really have space in my room for a whole desktop setup (too many bookshelves, haha). And like you said, building a PC sounds like an intensive process for someone like me who just wants to casually game and only has meaningful experience with Macs.

Is storage space an issue with a laptop? I know most full-fledged video games are usually tens of gigabytes.
Yeah that's why I went with laptop too, the portability is a big plus. It's basically a switch but heavier lol. You'd want to make sure that the laptop has a hard drive that can be replaced so you can upgrade in the future if needed. Most gaming laptops come with 1 terabyte harddrives usually. That's enough for about 10-15 Triple A games or many, many indie ones.

Can you expand it with SSDs? I thought laptops were horrible for gaming.

Yeah mine has an extra hard drive slot that I could put an SSD in.
Maybe they used to be bad, but these days there's quite a few decent ones with discrete graphics cards that you would find in a desktop (ex. 1050ti and upwards). The specs can be the same as desktop in most cases. The main issue is cooling but that's for all laptops tbf.

This is the laptop model I currently use for games, it's working great for current gen games and I didn't have to drop a huge amount of money (usually good ones can be over $2000). If you wanna DIY and do the building your own desktop thing then be prepared to spend hours comparing PC parts and stuff lol. (btw everyone will tell you to build one, but it's a lot of work and learning if you're not already familiar)

Personally I wasn't interested in that so I went with the above model and it's been serving me well. Asus also has some decent laptops. Whatever you choose I'd watch plenty of reviews, make sure it has a good graphics card and check System Requirements Lab to make sure it's going to be good enough for the most demanding of your games you're wanting to play.
It's not too hard to build a PC. For my first build, I just used the pcpartpicker Excellent Intel build and swapped out a couple parts after a bit of research.

If you are planning on getting a desktop, Cosmos, that's a good place to start. Building desktops really is much cheaper. If you've got the money, though, buying a pre-built is no problem. And if you need a laptop, gaming laptops aren't a bad choice either.

To stay on topic, though, if you like RPGs I'd recommend Dragon Quest XI. It's currently the best version because it has content that the PS4 and PC versions don't. There's also Skyrim, if you've never played it, although that's one of the games I'd say you should hold off for PC.

If you're creative, I'd recommend Mario Maker 2, it just got a new update that added some cool stuff as well. As another commenter stated, Kirby is pretty good as well, Link's Awakening is a personal favorite of mine, but I played the original quite a bit as a kid, so I might be looking at it with nostalgia goggles.

The Physical edition of the Switch Final Fantasy 7 and 8 Double Pack is actually rare and got a real limited release in the states.

It's cover looks like a bargain title though, but it's both HD releases in Physical form and it's the only current physical version of the HD releases for both games.

There are a ton of good exclusives

Dragon quest XI S- very charming and forgiving rpg with a ton of content

Xenoblade 1 Remastered, 2, and Torna- fantastic rpgs with huge worlds and god tier music

Astral Chain/Bayonetta 2- platinum games, really fun action gameplay

Rune Factory 4- It’s like Stardew valley, but with a greater emphasis on dungeon crawling. I like it a lot more than Stardew.

Mario and Rabbids- Super charming Xcom style game.

Captain toad- really neat 3D puzzle box platforming game

Also some other overlooked multiplatform games

Dragon quest builders 1/2- like Minecraft with rpg and decent story elements

Ace attorney trilogy- great visual novel
wargroove- strategy rpg
Diablo 3
Doom 2016

If you have never played the series before (and/or you don't mind spending a few bucks on remasters) may I recommend Katamari Damacy REROLL?

Not only it is the first game of the Katamari series, and a time-waster you can play whenever, but it's a very charming-looking game with catchy tunes and it's pretty easy to get the hang on in terms of gameplay. You also have a Steam version if your gaming PC plan ever goes through.

I'm sriprized no one has Animal crossing new horizons yet. Its not the best animal crossing game in the series but its still a really cute and comfy time waster.

Anyways hears a list of all the switch games i have.

-Splatoon 2
-Xenoblade chronicles 2
-Super Mario Odyssey
-Kriby Star Allies
-Animal Crossing New Horizons
-Dragon Quest 11
-Pokemon Shield
-SSB Ultimate
-DMC 3 special edition
-Digimon Cyber Sleuth
-LoZ Breath of the wild

Ys VIII: was really good for it, It had both features of Vita and PS4 version, Vita's DLC costumes already in it, and the nighttime version of the dungeons and the extra dungeon of PS4 version and it's not shitty like the PC port of the game

Outside of many of the obligatory games already mentioned so far, I recommend Daemon X Machina. It's story is kinda bleh but it's a pretty fun mech game. Not too many of those floating around.
