How's Goldeneye? Might double dip just for that.
It controls reasonably well. Running diagonally to go faster no longer works. Aiming is completely overhauled, you can move around while aiming and you move the right stick to aim your entire viewport, with the reticle staying in the middle. It's still a hassle to move it onto just the exact right pixel like you need to do on some of the harder difficulties.

Otherwise, it is exactly what you would get if you ran it in an emulator. Text and the ammo meter are blurry but legible. I think it runs at 30fps, better than N64 but worse than XBLA Perfect Dark. Achievements for clearing every stage and unlocking every cheat are nice. It's fine.

It's funny, I hadn't played the Control level since I was a kid, and I remember it taking a herculean effort to beat. As an adult, I beat it again after a few tries, and it was due to this one fucking asshole guard that breaks the right-side glass and immediately shoots Natalya unless you know he's coming. I also had a glitch happen where I cleared out the level, which should trigger Natalya to come out and start hacking the satellite, but she never opened the door.

Viva Piñata is underrated it's probably the game I spent most of my time with in this collection. It's a shame they never made a third one because the modern Xbox's hardware would be able to fix a lot of the issues the first two had.

First time with JFG. Its hard tbh. Not liking the respawns.
I'm using modern controls. The thing that bugs me the most is the camera.

I did not look at the default control scheme so dare I ask how fucking bonkers it was on n64? I assume its ptsd nam type stories

D-pad for switching weapons, control stick for movement, Z fires your gun, A and B scrolled through your weapons, C-left and right sidesteps, C-down is crouch, C-up is jump, and holding R made you manually aim with the control stick (with lookspring) and movement with your C buttons.

Jesus lmao. Sounds like hell. I started Perfect Dark only to realize that the difficulty level actually changes what happens in game. Like on agent no cameras no guy to follow to get card. Can't even find those e mines or whatever. I did see a green one but I cannot pick it up. Lol.

IIRC there were a few bossfight that did require you to both manually aim and stay maneuverable enough to jump over certain attacks.

It was kind of a headache if you couldn't remember all your controls in the heat of the moment.

No lie, I wanted Rare Replay for Conker's Bad Fur Day alone. The value proposition with Rare Replay as a complication is bar none. $30 for 30 games spanning multiple consoles and genres is a steal, no matter how you cut it. The historical value through preservation and retrospective through experience is priceless. Each video Rare provides offers insight of their intent through almost every game they've developed over the years.

My personal standouts in that collection were Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Blast Corps, Conker, Perfect Dark Zero, that one game where you're a gunslinger in the Wild West.

I love Rare during the N64 era and they made that console so good. Biggest disappointment with the Gamecube was the lack of Rare even though the Microsoft buyout era was mediocre.

I remember all the hype about Perfect Dark being the "Goldeneye killer" or whatever when it came out. I remember playing it and thinking it was just reskinned Goldeneye and not all that special.

Plus, you needed an Expansion Pak to even play it properly.

Rare carried N64's legacy as we know it today. The collectathon genre was dying out when MS bought Rare. I tried Banjo-Kazooie, not my style of game. I hate having to search for mandatory knick knacks for progression.

Good luck convincing Rare/MS to emulate several consoles AND Xbox Live for such a project.
I know but ports of Kazooie and Tooie at least would be fine, I do know kazooie is getting a decompilation which opens up the possibility of a fan pc port in the future but no word of Tooie which is the one I like the most since that game is goat and only hated by people with attention span problems

They should bring Perfect Dark to the Switch.

But not in that gay NSO format.
Having people play NSO Goldeneye controls with dogshit N64 to Switch controller inputs or having to pay extra for a Switch N64 controllers is a good reason to pirate Nintendo software.
