Black Kites (Milvus migrans) are birds of prey located mainly in tropical parts of Eurasia and parts of Australasia and Oceania. They are also known as "fire hawks" due to their habit of picking up burning sticks and twigs during savanna fires and dropping them into unburnt areas in order to scare potential food sources such as lizards and small rodents out of their homes. In 1963, they were reported to steal indigenous tribes' cooking brands to start fires up to half a mile away. They are the only non-human animal that has been recorded to intentionally cause fires.
