I can’t think of another country where anyone too irresponsible to manage their finances get a get out of jail free-card, that can even be used time after time.
I have no particular opinion on the shutdown of that bureau. Many countries do have this though, including total and repeated debt relief. Here's some relevant material:

Welp, I worded that wrong..

Yeah most countries, if not all countries have bankruptcy as a concept and as a way to get out of debt.

But nowhere is it as easy as it is in America. At least where I currently live it isn’t.

In America you can be as irresponsible as you want to, you can lie to the court, and the judge will just rubber stamp it. And presto, zero consequences. Except for paying more interest on your next credit card.

(Now it used to be that you couldn’t get credit for like five years after bankruptcy, but that’s not even the case anymore. It also used to be a lot harder to declare bankruptcy, until either they changed how it works under either Obama or Clinton.)

Where I live, personal bankruptcy is pretty fucking hard to get. It’s not just: “Oh, you can’t afford your debts?” Instead they look at: “Will this person ever be able to pay it back?”

As in: If you’re 30 or 40 years old, you’re not getting a bankruptcy approved because you’re a few hundred thousand dollars in debt. You have at least 20 or 30 years of employment left, you spendthrift!

Those in the US may not believe it but in the UK they send court officer to your house to take your stuff until the pawned value of your goods equal the amount owed.

And note that in this case it’s not credit card debt or something like that. It’s a TV license.

*The guy never agreed to pay it.

*He doesn’t even have a TV.

*The government just decided that he owes it.

*The courts send some goon to his house to grab stuff that they can sell for X amount of money.

*He doesn’t open the door? No biggie, bailiff just gets in through the window.

Fuck, not even in the Soviet Union or China did they have to deal with the government just coming and stealing your stuff if they decide you owe them money.

Let's be honest, even if the US had draconian shit like a TV loicense you would not see bailiffs jumping inside someone's property through the window for a much clearer reason.
That reason being the second amendment.

But in actuality - The US Taxpayer had it worse.
The US Taxpayer paid for 12% of the entire BBC - straight out of his paycheck (as discovered through the USAID budget review).
And never got to watch a minute of the BBC TV.

At least that guy can close the window and lock the door.

But here let me give you some highlights of the rich assholes who are gonna drain the swamp
(1) What is your favorite season of west wing?

(2) the problem is the federal government has a bunch of marxists and scammers embedded in it. Public employee unions negotiate against themselves and get rich off everyone else's labor. The CFPB, SEC, FTC, the IC outside of CIA and FBI. all good honorable agencies that mostly do good. The problem is the coalition that will clean up the agencies where needed is also going to take a wrecking ball to the good parts. And a lot of what Trump will do will be venal, but ineptly so so dems can easily crack down on it in 2026. But Trump is the best we got - the alternative isn't some ideal-type political surgeon who will excise only the bad parts of govt, the alternatives are Kamala or Jeb! types that would just keep deepening federal bloat and the competency crisis.

We got an official letter from our specific military branch customer telling us to knock that shit off and it was like a switch had been flipped.
Those brand new $3000 billboards in the hallways celebrating historical minority employees? Removed overnight.
All of the woman/POC/LGBTQP++++ groups that were sponsored by the company? Dissolved with a single email.
How is it called when you coom politically?

My company is just going through another Harvard MBA whiz coming in and deciding to MAKE HIS MARK! By firing an entire job type and distributing the work around the test of the teams. The job type is of course a highly technical and knowledgeable one rather than pen pushers and everyone groaning under the weight if the additional work which we neither have time nor the specific technical knowledge to do. An entire class of worker just made redundant, with minimal pay offs. This is the private sector.

Not to take someone like this too seriously but to be clear there’s no buyout or payment, no bonus, nothing like that. It’s a deferred resignation. You resign now, effective September. Between now and then you get your normal paycheck, but you’ll be in a leave status so you don’t have do work. That’s it.
It’s a fantastic deal still. If anyone offered to pay me to September if I resigned this afternoon I would chuck my keycard and laptop at them with joy and frolic off for an extended summer break, and have a job lined up for after the summer hold within two weeks. The feds need to take the offer and get a new job and bank the spare paycheck.
What a great week to be an autist working for the MIC.
I’m genuinely cheered to hear this. All the DEI has fine from our intranet, replaced with Industry Neeeeewws! Hurrah. I haven’t had a DEI email nagging me to be a better ally/attend a Troon training since the orange man won.
Even the people with 40 years to entrench themselves into the federal system are letting themselves be seen almost immediately.
I have thought this too. At work I just smile and nod and get on with it. Nobody knows my politics. The only time my hand was forced was Covid, when I refused to get shots and refused to play along with ‘influencing’ pregnant female employees to also get shots.
It shows their complacency, and stupidity. 98% of that progressive infiltration are idiots because they have put the selection criteria in place to be anti meritocratic, and created a culture of all kinks and foibles being flaunted for brownie points. Most of that dross can thus be easily targeted and ripped out.
The latest pivot is “protesting” by… not buying useless shit on Wednesdays?
I picture a puzzled and slightly hushed board room. Despite the analysts working overtime, Bad Dragon cannot work out why there’s a consistent sales dip on Wednesdays … it remain a mystery for the ages.

The knowladge that any US citizens could be potentially carrying a gun is only really going to stop one guy who doesn't wanna get shot, but we see feds in large numbers storming into houses to arrest people over bullshit all the time
If the US had something as absurd as as TV licenses you would just be seeing entire groups of armed agents crashing doors with battering rams and climbing through the roof over it

Still, good god is this situation fucking horrifying
>I caught a peep of a harmless object in your home, you got a license to own that?

You're hiding televisions in your attic, aren't you, sir?

Does anyone remember when that acquaintance of the Hog from the Spoony thread suicide-baited in the most comical way imaginable for attention? I think Null even pinned the screenshot to the top of the site for a while.
This is the fed equivalent to that.
I hate these anecdotal sob stories that are supposed to prove some point. "I challenge any of you to indict my wife as lazy, etc." Okay, bud. Let me see her work schedule for more than just the one day you're telling me about. How many of her office hours are spent on reddit or Facebook or pornhub? Let me see her browser history during her work hours. You want me to think she's amazing because she's preparing the aid budget? How much of that money is going towards trans surgeries, abortions, and pamphlets on how to illegally cross our border and sign up for government programs? Is she up super early this morning because she's been studiously working on a huge project for months, or did she put it off til the last minute because she knows she can half-ass it and get away with it?

And even if she happens to be the one paragon of virtue in the federal bureaucracy, that doesn't change the fact that there are tons of other employees who do no work but still get paid because their bosses want to keep their department budget high, or spend their work hours taking college courses or masturbating to furry inflationarism. Nor does it change the fact that there are tons of completely wasteful government programs that - even if the employees working there are putting in a full day's work - don't deserve to be funded by the tax payer. Nor does it change the fact that there are bureaucrats who abuse their office to target their political opposition.

Edit: I decided to be fair to the guy and do a legit audit. Over the last 5 years, this is the only post he has made about his amazing wife and her important, constant, hard work. I therefore have no choice but to believe that this is the only day that she has worked in the past 5 years. She sure put that budget off for a long time!

One of the things with bureaucrats is that they teach themselves to be lazy. They have a job where they might do two - three hours of actual work, and they fill the time with meetings to feel productive. There are so many offices where nothing gets started until about 3 pm because that is when the meetings end and people can finally sit down and dole out tasks. There also becomes no metric for success. So you aren't incentivized to a good job, or be efficient. Top that with bosses who see every mistake as an opportunity to add a new process which slows things down further, and you have a nightmare of a broken system.

Then you have the boss, who always stays late, always works late on a project that they made up. That will get ignored as soon as they leave, or if someone looks at, realizes that it's irrevocably broken and everything this person has been doing for years needs to be tossed. Of course this individual has long since gone to a new job and none of this will follow them. Rinse and repeat.

I really can't stress the meeting point enough. You have pre-meetings for the meeting. You have slide reviews prior to the pre-meeting. You have people whose entire job is to find things to brief for each meeting, because no one wants to say nothing significant to report. That response gets you glared at by the boss and they want to know why you have nothing. This process goes on all day everyday. There are people who get paid 6 figures to update slides and spout off metrics. There are people who call you a nazi, demand you learn to code and all they do is write emails and attend meetings.

Curious with all these judges trying to stop Trump, they don't have any standing or legality to do so right? Like they should be disbarred at minimum right?
