If you don't believe women need separate spaces away from men (including troons), look at sexual abuse that occurs in organized religion. The religion isn't the problem. I'll spoiler my unpopular opinion.

It isn't the religion that's the problem, but it's power without accountability. Men have physical power over women. These men weren't accountable spiritually to the people they served. Being a spiritual leader means having excellent spiritual hygiene. You should hold those men to higher standards.

Something I struggled with in my late teens and twenties was not justifying things I knew were wrong or evil. There's this logic that something is "not that bad" and it becomes an easy excuse:

It's not that bad to look at solo masturbation videos of women because no one is exposing her to any real harm and she is obviously over 18. It's not like she could be controlled by a pimp or an addiction that will ruin her life and kill her. And after all, muh freedoms, and, "It's her choice, patriarch. We all know you only hate pornography because you hate women patriarch. Enjoy prison, patriarch."

At a higher level, like in a church, things like child pornography happen because of this nonsense that somehow girls are equally as accountable as men, who have more power. When leadership fails to have higher standards and accountability, corrupt leadership will commit terrible acts like this as they convince themselves it simply wasn't that bad. She said yes. There was no penetrative sex. The list goes on and on. The unsung heroes of why this has come to light in fundie churches are women in the church holding men accountable. If you want to lead like God, you have to strive for His standards. And it is hard, but it is worth it, and it is better than a secular life.

Luca is an unequivocally male name in places where it is more commonly used. Hipsters can claim all they want that it's "gender neutral", but that's not borne out by history.
Luca is a fine masculine name, but these morons gave him the middle name of "Grace", which is decidedly feminine.

And I stand by my assessment of Paul. I've seen his Los Angeles era photos. That man is a grade A queerbo

It's also that whole position of power and brainwashing from birth in some cases that women defer to men on all things regardless.

I doubt most of the active fundies have done enough introspection and deconstruction to come to the conclusions that woman has. Good for her, though.

Lori, you and I both know the way kids that young are "trained" to sit still for that long is physical abuse 0gr0yj0s3b4c1.jpg

She's fundie/tradwife/etc crab mentality personified. She and her brain tumor won't rest until every woman is as miserable as she is.

I know she's openly admitted to beating her kids as well. Wonder if any have gone no-contact?

I wouldn’t be surprised.

Debi Pearl is another example of this (husband is a shitbag and abuses the wife so wife kicks the can down the road and takes it out on the kids). Michael is an abusive dickwad sooooo we now have To Beat Up A Child- I mean, excuse me, To Train Up A Child.

Ironic when she lives in a state with one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the US (Texas). TX has a higher rate of maternal mortality than Brazil, and its only getting worse.

My understanding is that that's largely due to black women who decline prenatal healthcare and have worse health before conception, but I'm very open to being corrected if someone has more info.
Black women are at highest risk but it's not because they decline healthcare so much as they lack access to it. TX only offers medicaid to moms for 60 days after giving birth. Black women are also often taken less seriously by healthcare professionals.

Given that Karissa's daughters are part black, that makes her spewing this shit particularly bad.

according to this the rate for white women in TX is 56.3 per 10,000 births. Which is still bad.

There is a huge bias in the medical field when it comes to black women reporting high levels of pain, maternal or otherwise. Doctors and nurses just don't take their pain as seriously as they do with white women. They also don't tend to listen to black women when they express that something is very wrong, or that they feel they are in a state of emergency (because what do those dumb niggers know about medicine, ammirite?)

Because of this, many black women report horrific medical birth experiences, where they don't get any pain relief, and emergency situations aren't recognized until they're pretty much unconscious and / or bleeding out. This leads to a high maternal rate of death in hospitals, higher than any other race in the US.

This effect has snowballed into a secondary way black women die in childbirth: the move to home birthing. Because of the many horrible experiences and even deaths in the black maternal community, they turned to crunchy shit like doula-led home births, solo births, orgasmic birth, etc. - long before the crunchy white chicks ever "discovered" the home birth community. This started happening as early as the 1990s, as black women began to train as apprenticed midwives and birth doulas as a way for the community to help themselves, since the doctors clearly (in their experience) couldn't give a shit about black women's birth traumas and deaths.

I was first exposed to the black home birth community in the early oughts, and it was an eye opening education to learn that an extremely well educated, professional-class friend planned to birth her second child at home, with only her mother in law acting in the capacity of something called a "doula", with her first child and husband by her side.

Tl;dr: the medical profession doesn't take black women seriously in hospital maternity settings, and this led to a whole new way for them to suffer and die in unassisted hime births. Thus rises the black maternal death rate in the US.

They also have more obesity and high blood pressure which makes birth more risky. I'd say the lack of affordable maternity care is a big issue too.

I fucking hated every minute of pregnancy. Nurie looks like she hates it too, she looks to be miserable just beneath the surface.
Not just being pregnant , but being pregnant with two other literal babies in the house ?
Sounds like hell
Couldn’t be me ! The sleep deprivation alone could kill you . Understandable that accidents happen but FFS most people space out their pregnancies for this and other reasons

Fundie women aren't allowed to space out pregnancies. If they could, I'm sure many would.

I know Mormons are technically not quiverfull fundies but more details on what child abusing Mormon mommy blogger Ruby Franke did to her kids are out. It's appaulling but at least these kids had their abuse reported and taken seriously. I know most kids abused by religious whackjob parents aren't so lucky :(

Franke (and her husband, who hasn't been charged with anything, but is dodgy in my eyes) had been reported and investigated many prior to Ruby and Jodi's eventual arrests. If the boy hadn't managed to escape from a window and run for help-- and it wasn't even his first escape attempt-- she'd still be at it. CPS dropped the ball hard with that family. They admitted to so much on video and called it tough love parenting, but all of that turned out to be mild compared to what we know now.

I thought I knew enough about how bad it was after the children's rescue, but it got even worse when we heard details after Ruby's guilty plea. It'll be interesting to see if Jodi also takes a plea or if she takes a chance at trial.

There are some similarities to the Turpin case with this one, and the Turpins were some flavor of Pentecostal (though I don't think they'd attended any church in recent history by the time it all went down). Jodi's brand of "therapy" is some extremely weird blend of Mormonism and cult tactics.

If anyone is interested, Jodi's niece did an interview on the Mormon Stories Podcast that's really interesting. The niece, Jessi, is very well-spoken and talks a lot about Jodi's tactics. It might be good for a listen if you still have presents to wrap or cooking to do, since it's a podcast and doesn't require your eyes on a screen:

Because this interview is in the context of a Mormonism-related podcast, they do go into the links between the Mormon church and Jodi's so-called therapies.

Family vlogging really can't die out soon enough.

Yeah CPS typically shits itself and does nothing even when there's blatent, ongoing abuse. I think there's a strong possibility at least one of those kids would've ended up dead if the boy didn't escape and alert the neighbor (and sadly would've been far from the first kid to be killed by their insane religious parents).

I've heard one of the boys was also shipped off to one of those unregulated wildness camp things that are notorious for kids emding up dead and horrifically abused. I know Mormons love that shit, though religious nuts of other varieties like IFB also like them (an episode of Let Us Prey focused on an abuse survivors whose patents ran a fundie Baptist version of them).

All fundamentalist Christians are not Quiverfull. Birth control practices in individual families are not usually regulated by the church. This would be considered in poor taste to sit a family down and ask private questions like this.
