It’s at least my opinion but for as much as Michelle wears it as a badge of honor how she was so worldly and secular only to become a saint of a wife and mother. she knows full well the impact of what little world she helped create. A struggling nobody couple suddenly gets a taste of notoriety and eventually money, her (and jbs) greed took hold and they leaned into what was giving them that. To be fair, it’s easy to think that she’s just a golem filled with crickets, she just comes across so simple but she was complicit in covering up Josh and his crimes as well.
Unlike so many other women and children trapped in this sex cult, she has connections with the outside world and eventually the funds to make her way out of it kids in tow, the only thing holding her back is herself. Maybe she was wary of negative press so she kept up the lies to keep living her false reality, but that would be no excuse at all. She wears her psycho badge with pride.

It's hard for me to dump this on Meech. She's just following her husband's lead, and by the accounts of her children who don't speak to Jim Bob, they certainly seem to love their mom.
Meech's position isn't enviable. Anyone who thinks God wants them to hit babies is probably being slapped around a little. It's frustrating all the way around, and it doesn't make what she does okay.

I can't say I'd be surprised if JimBoob has abused his wife. We know they don't think spousal rape is a big deal so bare minimum he's probably been sexually abusive of her. It's not an excuse for her actions of course, but someone can be both a victim and an abuser.

I agree. This was a 17 year old girl with older parents who gave her away so they could enjoy their retirement, pack up and leave town. They never had that TLC money until she was over a dozen kids in. Meech is still a terrible cunt but I can't help but think things would of been different for her and her kids if she had some more options.

The girls have every right to speak out, it’s just uncomfortable when it gets into detail for some. I had to be very very careful during the reports of the trial with Josh because I knew some of them went into specific (explicit) detail about what he watched, and that kind of thing makes me nauseous. Not blood, not wounds, that stuff doesn’t faze me, but sick crap involving minors……barf.
I will always be on the side of people who chose to speak out about the dark side of fundie-world. And the sad thing is, there is more of these types of men out there for sure.

Rape should be discussed. I don't think you can have a reasonable and safe approach to sexuality in a culture without talking about rape so it's clearly defined. I don't remember what exactly what was said and I don't care enough, but there are always people who want to take what someone says in bad faith for whatever reason.
There's a lot of intimate discussion about what Josh did, particularly to Joyanna, that is appalling. I excused myself with a bad joke because those kinds of things make me uncomfortable. It doesn't mean that it doesn't have value or should stop, but I mainly come here to laugh at stuff, and it was obviously a bad place for a bad joke.
No one owes me anything; just don't kid yourself that I'm some pro-rape misogynist. I can appreciate that I have views that might make women uncomfortable, and I hope anyone would feel comfortable enough to tell me why I'm wrong and start a reasonable conversation. I'm not here to fight, debate, or argue. I don't know how to say that in a way that doesn't read in a sanctimonious tone, but I hope you can appreciate the spirit of what I'm saying as imperfectly as it's being said.

JB+M are bible literalists, so it wouldn't surprise me if they took Proverbs 13:24 very literally and have no remorse for beating their children because they believe it's what God wanted them to do. I don't know if JB knew better, but Michelle became a Christian in high school and married JB a few days after she graduated. Then they got into the whole IBLP cult, and all the instructions seemed ok to them.
Slightly unrelated, but I don't know if Josh was blanket trained. He was the first, then Caleb, the miscarriage she said was a result of punishment for the sin of using birth control. I think that was the point when they spiraled into IFB, because JB was raised SBC and went to a SB high school.

I think temperance is a virtue God even wants us to practice reading the bible, when to take things literally and when to understand it's symbolic speech for a purpose. I also think we are judged on this. Discernment and temperance are a beautiful part of God's forgiveness and love for me, so why shouldn't I apply the same principle to other people if I want to be forgiven? The SBC range from very disagreeable with this to fully embracing this within individual churches, but I wasn't aware IFB were so rigid yet worldly, and it irritates me.
It seems early for blanket training - The book was published in 1994, and they seem oddly hung up on worldly things like whether or not a parenting technique based on alleged biblical principle is in a PUBLISHED BOOK.
The kids seem to love Meech. JB is absent. Their actions speak volumes. Meech has been wearing some (modest and nice) more worldly clothing, and it seems everyone is moving on from IFB. I hope JB only ever meant to love, cherish, and protect them, and he jumps on board before they leave him behind. Everyone deserves a good dad, even if he's hugely failed his family as a man. I hope he finds the humility to ask for forgiveness from God and his daughters. I think they need to hear it from him.

Someone in another thread brought up that there's apparently been a bunch of drama with the token mixed-race quiverfull family that let a baby end up in the hospital with bad UTI from not changing diapers. Like the baby has gotten more infections and another kid almost sliced their finger off? Either way sounds like tea/receipts that need to be shared ITT.

The Collins family, parents are Madrae and Karissa. In the past month, three kids have been hospitalized and so has the mom. She did a home birth that landed both herself and the infant is hospital with infection; their youngest daughter was hospitalized - for the second time - with sepsis due to a severe UTI because they never change her; and another one broke a bone.
Their kids are constantly breaking bones, it's got to have raised some alarms with local medial staff.
Karissa doesn't believe in doctors, of course. She's been kicked out of the children's hospital for scream praying over the kids before. She also told the kids that if they prayed hard enough, God would resurrect one of her miscarriages.
Karissa has also developed post partum psychosis in the past month and is totally untreated for this.

I used to know/grew up with crazy fundies who would quote Proverbs 13:24 while beating their kids with switches and/or wooden spoons/implements like it was a complete reminder that physical abuse over the slightest infraction was wholly justified and a means to erase their own self doubt.
There are a lot of interpretations of that passage, one of which says the rod refers to shepherd's crook with which they guide their flock as opposed to flaying them to the point of bleeding and infection.
I remember one former classmate, who came back to school after having spent time in the hospital for ruptured ear drums, we were all told that it was because she got some of the pea gravel from around the play structure in her ears and she tried to remove it herself.
It was years later when her and mom and sisters finally fled from her dad, that it came out that the dad did it as a punishment for listening to the Backstreet Boys. The statute of limitations had expired and the old church still rallied around him as a "good Christian man", trying to protect his daughters from sin.
I try not to paint all Christians with the same brush; I know far more truly humble and beautiful practitioners who have actually read the Bible and follow Christ's teachings. But it is hard when it's the most outspoken and hypocritical who get attention and then shelter by the Church and government.
And it happens time and time again where so called "Christians" not only get away with abuse, but are even praised for it.
