Jill Duggar recently spoke out and essentially called her family a cult and condemned IBLP. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't her husband still pretty much a culty fundie? So sad all around.

How dare they have kids!
Do you really think that's the issue?

No, Derek Dillard isn't IBLP. Derek is SBC. This is why Jill wears a nose ring and pants and Derek has a law degree.

You mean Jinger. She has a new book out.

Fear was a huge part of my childhood," Vuolo, 29, tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week's issue. "I thought I had to wear only skirts and dresses to please God. Music with drums, places I went or the wrong friendships could all bring harm."

Even when her family went to play a sport called broomball, Vuolo says she felt "terrified" she might be defying God's will. "I thought I could be killed in a car accident on the way, because I didn't know if God wanted me to stay home and read my Bible instead."

Oh damn, any more deets from Jinger's book?

Sounds like Josh getting arrested finally caused the Duggar skeletons to start falling out of the closet.

Doubt this is the end of it.

“[Gothard’s] teachings in a nutshell are based on fear and superstition and leave you in a place where you feel like, ‘I don’t know what God expects of me,'” Duggar says. “The fear kept me crippled with anxiety. I was terrified of the outside world.”

she’s speaking out about IBLP and Gothard, but she’s still pretty fundie, don’t mistake this for her being more liberal, or speaking out about her family specifically.

Shit, maybe Jinger will break free after all.

I don't think anyone saw Jill as one to escape, but I gotta say, I think she's done incredibly well for herself. I hope she's in touch with Jinger; it's hard to tell how much Jill speaks to anyone in the family and one of the things a "father" like Jim Bob does best is pitting siblings against each other.

Yeah narcparents like JimBoob always try to pit siblings against each other especially when shit starts going south.

With his golden boy currently in federal prison, I wonder if he's picked out a temporary golden child to pit the other kids against in his place?

Jill has publicly supported Jinger. Out of respect for the ladies, I will not be referring to them by their former surnames. They are essentially divorced from their parents and IBLP. As Jill and Jinger Duggar, they were two powerless and abused children. Those little girls are dead.

@Thomas Eugene Paris I always thought Jill was pretty transparently transactional with her family and just waiting it out. I believe she initially thought midwifery was a way out. Derek is a hell of a catch; this is the dude who was based enough to acknowledge Jazz as a brother and extend compassion. Show me a man that good who would give up an easy life to extend his love and I will show you a godly man. He didn't go after Jill for the money and she was smart enough to see that long before any of us did.

Edit. @TheCakeIsALie He did tell Jazz she wasn't a woman. He also said he accepted him as his brother. That's a powerful statement from a conservative Christian, and it's the right statement. Love does win. I have my own views on LGBT as a Christian, but overall, I would say it's a compassionate perspective from Derek that shows an acceptance for Jazz as she is, which is more than I can say for her "family."

Well it won’t be a girl because we all know they are just helpmeets

Wait what. I remember Derek picking on Jazz, saying that being trans is a myth. He was never nice to her.

It actually seems like Jana is his new golden child, although I believe that Josh will never truly be displaced from that pedestal.

Jana has certainly proven her loyalty over the years. Talk on FJ always geared towards speculation that she made herself indespensable around the home in order to forestall marriage and kids of her own. If she goes now, JB and Michelle are a bit fucked.

@TheCakeIsALie He did say being trans was a myth, but Dud was saying he finds it based that he called Jazz out but offered compassion. He's our resident conservative Christian guy here. Personally, I have massive issues with Jazz surrounding the parents specifically and don't find his (Derek's) actions compassionate or helpful, but I also get that Derek wasn't trying to tear Jazz down from his own perspective. I guess it's better than 'you're going to bathe in the lake of fire for eternity', but I find that a painfully low bar.

As a queer person myself I know I would find it enormously unhelpful and not very compassionate to be told being gay is unnatural but that god loves me. Like, I know it's usually meant with good intentions but you're still saying I'm wrong and you're right and something that's essentially a part of me is fucked up.

That’s fair. I just never saw the part where he was sympathetic or non condemning towards Jazz. Especially considering everything surrounding Josh and Jill leaving IBLP.

Growing up fundie lite myself that’s all I heard from my dad. Everyone’s going to hell. Even as a toddler he would say all the evil people would be thrown in the lake of fire and that the more evil people would burn longer.

I guess Jana is more of a parent than he is to most of his kids. Especially since aren't the youngest of Meech and Jimboob's spawn still minors (plus all the other little kids from the various older siblings living at Casa de Duggar that I'm sure Jana gets stuck watching)?

Jana has some shit beliefs but I just feel sorry for her having spent most of her life parenting kids that aren't even hers, with no end in sight.

I desperately hope the FJ narrative is right and she's deliberately doing what she's doing to put off having kids. It makes sense, because when you're the oldest girl in a fundie family you've raised a small village of kids by the time you're in your twenties. Nobody could blame her for not wanting to raise more kids after raising so many of her siblings, especially since she'd have to marry fundie and the husband would probably want a million kids themselves.

Then you have situations like Sarah Maxwell where they desperately want a marriage and kids but get passed over due to having an insane dad. Really sad stuff. I wouldn't wish that on Jana.

Realistically I doubt she's deliberately putting off marriage and kids, at least consciously. But if Jill of all people could break free, there's hope for Jana to get out once the youngest kids are teenagers.

I don't think they want Jana to marry. She's just a house slave. Jana is weirdly rebellious, though. She goes off on trips by herself, and I wonder what she does on them. If you grow up in a big family with no mainstream entertainment, lying in bed smoking a joint watching television feels really foreign, but good. It might just be that simple.

I posted something on your wall because i didn't want to further derail.

My parents also believe I'm going to burn in hell forever for the choices I've made. A lot of Christians get weirdly myopic that if you're not doing Christianity their way, God will abandon you. He has not, and while I won't go to Heaven after death, I wouldn't change it.
