This reminded me of the Bever murders in Broken Arrow. I don't think it was ever said if they were fundies or not but they were very religious and from my understanding, a lot of people think they were.

I think a lot of it is failure to read Bible verses in proper context, along with that period of history. This gets a lot of people into error, it's something a good teacher should stress on readers when studying the Bible..

To be fair here, I'm one to talk as I'm a South Asian and the mullahs funded by the KSA, UAE, Qatar, et al. have effectively set my part of the world back like… 20+ years with their Salafist rhetoric. But if I had to justify the degeneracy of my people, I'd argue that this is expected behaviour from an impoverished backwater like the one I claim ancestry from.

I certainly never expected to see, in my lifetime, an entire fucking subculture dedicated to the same shit that white people (quite rightly) talk shit about people from my part of the world doing (i.e. religion being used to justify authoritarianism, purposely withholding education and contraception from females, a horrendous and unspoken problem with incest and paedophilia... you get my drift).
 
Yeah, all the extreme versions of the Abrahamic religions tend to have more in common with each other than moderate versions of the same religion.

There's even Jewish versions of the same shit i.e. super ultra orthodox sects like that one town in NJ that's more or less the Jewish version of the FLDS.

It's fear. They are afraid. They believe that if they control things and can go back to the 'good old days,' they will be secure. They control women because they are afraid the women will decide that how they are living is unacceptable, even though it is 'paradise' for the men. They remove contraception and education, because with these the women is able to be free.

Pedophilia and incest is unacknowledged sexual sin. It's lust. It's also another way of control.

So I lived near an Orthodox Jewish community for a little while. They're way more standoffish than FLDS or most Christians, but they're some of the most warm and sweet people if they ever build any degree of trust with you as an outsider, so I made a couple friends I could talk to and ask questions, and yes, some of the overlap that's more cultural than religious is slightly surprising.

They may not have been fundies or quiverfull, but there was actually another family murder in the same damn town a couple months ago. Only this time the financially struggling and stressed parents killed their homeschooled kids.

This article (may be paywalled, I managed to get a free read tho) added another layer of stupid: the mother fucker named two of the kids Vegeta and Ragnar... but was supposedly worried about how his kids were learning to dance at school of all things.

It's hard to explain if you haven't read any ye olden times religious texts, as in, the witches hammer and sort; but either the authors made it the fuck up or women were very bored and incredibly horny sitting on a farm all day in the 1300s. Religious nutters don't just read the source. They've got books and books on crazy interpretations and that's where you get the real nutty shit. Even people who claim to be fundamentalists almost alway go off more than text alone.

I lived in one for 30 years. I worked in the area too. Orthodox men cannot touch other women so at CVS, they would just throw money at me. Now, they could have placed the money on the counter instead but never did, they’d chuck it.

We also allowed them to get their scripts without paying upfront if they really needed it, because they usually did come back to pay after shabbos.

The traffic was insane due to the amount of cars in an area that only had one way in and out. I mean 20-30 mins to move a mile. Frustrated the crap out of me.

I go back every so often to see my folks. There’s no good restaurants as a result of all the kosher ones being there. They don’t have cheese, for example in any restaurant that serves meat.

Other tidbits:

The children of Orthodox Jews did very poorly in math and science overall because yeshivas didn’t value learning that stuff over religion. My friend worked at a Huntington center type places and she would tell me this. The state has since changed regulations so they are on par with state standards.

Many are also on welfare, and do not vaccinate.

And during Passover, the women would come in with a huge book of all the permissible and non permissible things they could buy.

Oh, women on their periods are considered dirty/unclean, they must go through a ritual called a Mikvah. An unclean woman is a niddah. A couple cannot have sex until a mikvah. The mikvah has rules.

Requirements during use. There is supposed to be no barrier between the person immersing and the water. The person should be wearing no clothes, jewelry, makeup, nail polish, fake nails, or grooming products on the hair or skin. For more observant Jewish women, an attendant will ensure these requirements are met.

And women and men are separated at temple whenever they go.

I went down the Maranatha Chapman rabbithole for a minute and discovered the following:

- Matthew Chapman has an active and entirely public Facebook account.
- Lauren, the daughter they married off to a 26 year old when she was 16, is divorced and on her second husband, a very handsome Turkish man that appears much closer to her age. She is very much not a fundie.
- Ezra is a Crossfit and Olympic lifting coach and appears to also not be a fundie in any way.
- Zion is not only not fundie at all but seems to be married and retaining her maiden name.
- Hadassah and her sister Kindle are weightlifters that participate in national competitions.
- Despite Matthew and Maranatha having 7 kids, most of whom seem to be married, they only have five grandkids.

Also, the good genes in that family run strong. They have some good-looking kids with better heads on their shoulders than their parents. Although Matthew seems shockingly normal given the crazy shit in that long article on the last page - tailgating at football games, going to Rolling Stones concerts, posting normal-ish boomer religious shit. He also seems very active in his kids' lives despite none of them having followed the fundie path and appears to support them. Honestly, if I didn't know he was a fucking creep that married a child, I would think he was a pretty okay dude.
 
I grew up fundie and escaped. So glad it wasn’t like the Duggars but if you know what SDA is, it’s very very similar to Jehovahs Witnessss. It’s a weird mix of Jewish and Christianity.

I hope one day the IBLP gets exposed and the whole thing goes down. Fuck people like Jim Bob/Duggars/the confederate people? The Bates? and whomever covers up for this crap.

Nope, try Long Island.

But to keep it relevant, those areas have had outbreaks of diseases from non vaccination, and during the lockdown, the Brooklyn Jew were holding huge funerals in the streets. You know, while tons and tons and tons of bodies were sitting in freezer trucks outside of hospitals because they couldn’t contain the dead. My heart goes out to everyone affected, especially the health care workers.

New Rochelle had a big outbreak of covid due to non vaccination but have also been hit with other things that were preventable. When I’d visit my parents, no one was distancing or masking, even though rabbis were openly saying to please get vaccinated.

Matthew Chapman posts a picture further down in his timeline on National Daughters Day and it's only barely clear which ones are which without all the filters. Zion in particular HEAVILY edits her stuff. They're still pretty women but they're not nearly as over the top in real life as they look on their own pages.

Wonder why the girl who was married at 16 to an adult pedophile divorced him. I thought courting was supposed to guarentee happily ever after?
