This ruling has a bitter aftertaste.
While I am surprised that Josh was deriving enjoyment off the suffering of children and am relieved that he is being convicted and eventually arrested, I feel that anti-Christians are going to blame conservative Christianity instead of Josh just being a sicko. Josh Duggar is going to be the new Fred Phelps.
...then again, Robert Dear shot up an abortion clinic, yet he did not become the Fred Phelps of the pro-choice movement, him fading from view a month afterwards.

It’s really scary that he was already a pedo at 14 years old, when he was molesting his sisters. Makes me not wanna have kids. I was going to say that with 19 children, the odds of one being a piece of shit it pretty high, but he was their first born so they were stuck with him either way.

And honestly, nobody with a brain likes Fred Phelps. Except maybe to make fun of. Even other Christians have soundly denounced him.

In all seriousness though, the culture of at least the Duggar family and their associates (and I’d go so far as to extend it to a certain strain of fundamentalism) covered for the abuse. Another example is Bret Alan Smith of the fundie Smith family. His daddy (patriarch Captain Bret Smith) still swears he’s a good boy and he dindu nuffin (“persecution, I tell ya!”) even after he pleaded guilty to raping a younger relative.
I wouldn’t (and I’m sure I’m not alone) call the culture of covering this shit up Christian thing, though. Maybe just a fundie thing.
ETA: the Smith family are their own pile of crazy if you’re into crazy fundie families. One of their adopted kids, a teenage girl, died (unnecessarily) in August when she was

You’re going to be happy, then. There’s 0 chance the judge imposes a sentence lower than the 10 years that Duggar was offered in the plea deal that Duggar rejected. I THINK the sentencing guidelines on this are 5-20 years and he was found guilty on 2 counts? My guess is that he’s sentenced to 20 years on both counts, to run concurrently, with mandatory RSO and lifetime Fed supervision upon release. The Fed system only gives you a maximum of 15% off your sentence for “good time”, so if he gets 20 for each count but the time on both runs together plus take 15% off for good time my guess is he’ll be out in 17 years or so and even after he’s out he’ll be under his POs thumb and a RSO for the rest of his life

Sadly, no. Duggar is going into the US Fed system, which goes out of it’s way to protect pedos. They have entire wings of Fed prisons dedicated to housing pedos. Prison life sucks but it’s not like he’s going to jail in South America or something like that.

Every time I get to say this my heart grows three times in size, but this has been a fantastic year for justice against pedos. Almost makes 2021 worth it.
