The Queen spent Wednesday night in hospital for preliminary medical checks and is now back at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace has said.
The 95-year-old monarch returned from hospital at lunchtime on Thursday and is "in good spirits", the palace added.
The Queen was said to be "disappointed" after cancelling a visit to Northern Ireland on Wednesday.
She was given medical advice to rest for a few days, after a busy schedule of public engagements.
In a statement on Thursday night, Buckingham Palace said: "Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, and remains in good spirits."
The Queen was seen by specialists at the private King Edward VII's Hospital in central London, about 19 miles (32km) from Windsor. Her admittance is understood not to be related to coronavirus.
The overnight stay was said to be for practical reasons and the Queen was back at her desk undertaking light duties on Thursday afternoon.
The King Edward VII's is a private hospital in London's Marylebone used by senior royals, including the Queen's husband, the late Duke of Edinburgh, who received treatment there earlier this year.
It has been a busy period of official engagements for the Queen.
She was pictured hosting a Global Investment Summit at Windsor Castle on Tuesday evening alongside Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
An official record of the Queen's diary showed at least 15 other formal events during October.
On Wednesday, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said the monarch had "reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days".
He said the Queen was "disappointed that she will no longer be able to visit Northern Ireland" - which would have involved an overnight stay.
She is expected to lead a royal delegation to the Glasgow COP26 climate change summit in two weeks' time.
Earlier this week, the Queen declined a magazine's award of Oldie of the Year, saying "you are only as old as you feel".
She "politely but firmly" turned down the award, but sent the Oldie magazine a message with her "warmest best wishes".

Just a preliminary thread for now, but it's worth keeping an eye on, pretty sure this was how it started with Philip...

Too soon?

A lot of burgers getting really confused about how the monarchy works.

The Queen had no power at all. None. Doubly so since she always maintained a lifelong policy of never stating her opinion on anything, ever. One day she had to smile and shake hands with a left-wing mass-murderer, the next day a right-wing mass-murderer, and never, ever let slip what she thought of all those terrible people. Because she never represented herself or her opinions. She represented Britain, the entity, whatever it was doing, whoever was in charge. She was the crown, the flag, not Elizabeth von Saxe-Coburg Gotha Windsor. She had to be completely opaque and never take sides on anything, no matter what she thought of it.

That was the only way she remained popular on a personal level, even if the country or the monarchy came under fire. She was just... there. We may never know what she thought about all the various people she met, all the events she presided over (none of which she had any influence over), all the scandals other members of her family got tangled up in or anything that happened in the world.

Getting mad at her for the end of the empire, or immigration, or anything that happened in the UK or that the UK did internationally is like getting mad at the White House (the actual building) because your least favourite president was in it.

She no doubt had really strong opinions about all sorts of things, events and people. But she kept them to herself, for 96 years. In an age of social media, when everybody feels the need to broadcast every half-formed brain fart they have to the entire world, she was a living personification of the wisdom of Just Shutting The Fuck Up.

Shame her idiot son never learned that.

Ok but is it true Charles said he wants to be Camilla's tampon? Enquiring minds demand answers

I give you guys maybe 3 generations before the monarchy isn't a thing anymore, because none of her progeny understood her role as well as she did.
Charles is going to be a dumpster fire of hot takes, William IDK, and his kid will probably do something catastrophically stupid to burn the whole edifice down.

Sadly, yeah, I agree with you. Liz was one hell of a diplomat, and that's probably one of only two reasons the monarchy still exists (the other being that having a President would mean yet more politicians and we've got more than enough of those already). Charles is a catastrophic idiot with a wide range of very stupid opinions on all sorts of subjects which he has used to get involved in politics (he's one of the main reasons acupuncture and similar woo is available on the NHS). Now he's the center of attention he'll wade into some debate he's too dumb to understand and make a lot of people really angry.

William at least seems to know to keep his mouth shut, but the damage might be done by the time he takes charge.

For what it's worth you managed to profit off it for a hell of a long time. No one gives a shit who is the queen of the Netherlands or any of the Scandi countries. It can't bring in a lot of tourist revenue.

She spent her entire life working to earn tax money for people who called her a parasite. She did it 7 days a week from age 14 to age 96. In the pictures of her with Liz Truss, the day before she died, you can see the cannula marks in her hands where she had been pumped full of drugs (almost certainly at her own insistence) to get one last duty done before she expired.

You can say all the edgy things you want about her, but you will never have her self-discipline. Neither will Charles, unfortunately.

Say what you will about the state of the monarchy, Elizabeth was born under an inescapable burden and she carried it with unfailing grace and dignity, unlike most of the deranged egomaniacs who seek out positions of power in government.

Here's a passage from Shakespeare's "Henry VI" marking the death of King Henry V. It doesn't really map onto Elizabeth's death all that well, but it's an underquoted passage and worth reading.

Hung be the heavens with black, yield day to night!
Comets, importing change of times and states,
Brandish your crystal tresses in the sky,
And with them scourge the bad revolting stars
That have consented unto Henry's death!
King Henry the Fifth, too famous to live long!
England ne'er lost a king of so much worth.

England ne'er had a king until his time.
Virtue he had, deserving to command:
His brandish'd sword did blind men with his beams:
His arms spread wider than a dragon's wings;
His sparking eyes, replete with wrathful fire,
More dazzled and drove back his enemies
Than mid-day sun fierce bent against their faces.
What should I say? his deeds exceed all speech:
He ne'er lift up his hand but conquered.

All I can say is if I've learned anything at all during my time on this planet (and I probably haven't) it's that weak things desperately convey themselves as powerful while actually-powerful things try to convince everybody they're weak.

The U.S. military has mammy-looking nigger-ladies advertise their diverse navy & runs a manga in Japan where they (the entire naval branch of the U.S. army) are portrayed as a little rabbit boy. China does so many things to appear powerful you couldn't count them, all while having a terrible quality of life, human rights violations, an economic collapse, ghost cities and other economic bubbles. Russia insists it's a beacon of strength and morality while throwing kids out of planes without parachutes. Ukraine's leader dances with Hollywood celebrities on TikTok while the neo-nazis in their military scalp everyone they meet (including retarded Redditors showing up to try and fight on their behalf.) And the Queen of England is portrayed as a sweet, harmless old lady making no decisions at all in her castle & surrounded by guards, and her bumbling wacky children with Rothschild connections are as harmless as the Kardashians.

I'll probably never learn anything in-depth about how the English monarchy works but I can't see any reality where they don't hold some sort of meaningful influence. All these shallow attempts to divert peoples' attention away from the monarchy with specials about what they eat for breakfast makes me roll my eyes, it's like when our media colludes in real-time to soften the image of whatever Joe Biden's handlers decides to do.

I honestly don't get why people think """powerless""" monarchies needs to exist and are a good thing actually.

If they don't have any power then they can certainly live like they don't like the rest of the plebs.
But noooo we gotta have fancy dinners, fancy weddings, fancy houses, trillions of servants.
Because divine right...?

because without a monarch we'd have presidents as head of state, look me in the eye and tell me they're less embarrassing.

I hope Chuck ardently signs on to troonery or even troons out himself.
