Anyone who's familiar with Arknights, how do you feel about the picks?
Well, everyone already expected Faust gonna have Kaltsit since both are almost similar (White hair, smart-ass who talks too much, knows alot of shit that we didn't know but very reluctant to share), but the rest are a bit surprising pick.
For one, everyone was expecting the EGOs to be fully Abyssal Hunter focused, but I guess its collab so they want to try focusing on other Arknights characters as well.
Anyway:
- Hong Lu is representing Ling. She's something called "Feranmut" in Arknights lore, essentially a long living "elder race" themed around eastern dragons.
To be specific, she's one of the few fragments of a much, bigger dragon called Sui that is considered evil and a threat to the not-China/Yan. Said dragon ended up banished and its soul got fragmented into like, these dragon persons that each tied to certain aspect of skills or whatever as their main personalities or background (examples: Cooking or Art or Farming, etc). For Ling, specifically, she's related to poetry and literature (which is why the EGO has like, haikus in there) and often wanders around Not-China to find new muse, and also drink booze (yes, she's a drunkard)
Not sure why Hong Lu, but I figure he's tied to the most chinese of the Canto (8th) and he has been dragon once or twice. Being a whimsy wandering drunkard haiku writer could fit.
- Faust is represented by Kalt'sit. Her history is super complicated but she's basically a immortal being that roam the land basically doing her own things. I highly suggest you go and read it on the Arknights wiki because she is annoying to explain. However she is basically smart, talks a lot (many jokes that Arknights story wordcounts got inflated simply by her talking), and has a connection to the protagonist (Faust acted as translator and information giver to Dante, Kaltsit helped the Doctor for a bit but has a massive grudge because apparently Doctor murdered someone close to her)
The big monster thingie that she possessed is called Monst3r. Again, complicated stuff, think of it as Kaltsit's personal attack dog.
- Gregor is represented by Mylnar, full name Mylnar Nearl. Mylnar is a former knight from not-Poland/Kazimierz, a country that used to have knights and winged hussars but got a case of hypercapitalism and now the country is basically a modern capitalist heaven and the old knights are now just glorified sponsored knights fighting in sports arena. As a knight, he do have desire of being a knight for his family (Nearls being a well-established knights that, even when near extinction, still followed the true knighthood than becoming corposhills), but as the time went on, his shine for glory faded and he become a glorified office worker. Then something happened (involving his nieces, Maria Nearl/Blemishine and Margaret Nearl/Nearl the Radiant Knight) which sparked his desire to be a knight once again.
Can see him as Gregor, both basically a tired veterans whose experience changes them in the present, though they are vastly different in personality (Gregor tend to be laidback, Mylnar is a hard-ass stoic).
