Fuck me, this chapter hits way harder if you have read the book. There are a lot of references and parallels scattered throughout this chapter.
For those who haven't read the book, the Heathcliff from a mirror world seems to have experienced it almost to the letter. He grew up both close to Catherine and apart due to their social standing. Both loved each other, yet Catherine could not imagine marrying Heathcliff. Instead, she married Linton because she believed that she could raise her and Heathcliff's social status by doing so. Where Limbus differs is in Cathy's death and Heathcliff's response to it. In the book, Heath returns rich after some years away, and he immediately begins his revenge. He gains control of the Heights by taking advantage of Hindley and his addictions. He then begins his revenge against Linton by marrying his younger sister to inherit their manor too. But in a tumultuous argument between Catherine, Heathcliff, and Linton, Catherine dies, lamenting how both Linton and Heathcliff have broken her heart. In the book, Heathcliff, completely heartbroken and driven mad by her death, focuses on punishing the Linton and Earnshaw bloodlines for the suffering that they have caused him and taking Catherine away from him.. But in Limbus, he not only blames others; he also blames himself (and the other versions of himself in the mirror worlds) for her death, bowing to hunt down and slaughter each and every version of himself. I really like how Heathcliff's revenge has been adapted here. A total self-destructive endeavor that leads only to more suffering.
Don't know how this one will end but so far it's my favourite canto by far. I do recommend reading the books before the cantos if you can.
Edit: It just hit me that it would be really funny if the next ID was Heathcliff : Heathcliff? but considering how he bit the dust at the end of the chapter it's highly unlikely.

It would be cool if Heath base ID got an upgrade with his moves.

Edit: Alternatively, have Heath season ID be the narrator from the book though I wonder how that will work. I can see a Cathy ID for Ahab that will function the same as NFaust, though that will contradict "in every universe Cathy dies".

His Ego breaking is a big deal, it looked a LOT like a... corruption? From Envy to Wrath, to the background, to the damage, it all screams that Heathcliff manifested some actual, genuine, star of the city level EGO for a split second.

As for changing the base IDs, probably not too much, The boss fights are actually designed around the base IDs and I'm not meming when I say that the last three are easily equally matched with some of Ruina's best. Heath is actually one of the stronger ones, and the extend that this Canto Pushes it to it's limit is genuinely impressive, down to you being forced to use bodybag instead of chain of others for once.

While playing the Mirror Dungeon (tried Bloody Mist for the first time, holy shit it's easy mode), you can get a good look of some CGs that appeared in the end of part 2 with some of them being very interesting. Is there a way to see all CGs in-game?

At the very least adding more coin tosses on attacks will be nice, from how I remember a lot of them tend to have single coin toss attacks that aren't S1 only and aren't strong enough to warrant the risk.

That’s actually the point, I’ll use Ishmael for an example, she’s tanky, fast as fuck, with a block dice but her clashes are terrible at low SP and great at High SP. Which is, Ismael's gimmick on the LCB team. IIRC loggerhead is a 4-15, where enemy 2 coins tend to be 4-14s. Give loggerhead 2 coins and Ish is suddenly a better Outis

In a way, everyone is so shit you can’t really touch one without fucking everything up.

Still, I feel like it would integrate with the plot if the base IDs got better with experience, or at least get supportive abilities to make them clash better.

I don't know if others will like it, but having stuff like rooms in mirror dungeons limiting your IDs, or status effect to return to base IDs will give combat a lot more variation than 2-3 rounds of sink or swim and then very little variation.

I expect at some point we are going to see theme challenges, especially with the LCB crew, there are too many very, very well made fights that most people just clashed through.

As much as I shill the base experience, it would filter like, everyone.

Maid Ryoshu is real.

I expect her to be a solo pull or be acompanied by butler Sinclair as a 00 ID.

ok conspiracy time, you think these maid id's are an attempt to save face from that autism scandal a couple of months ago?
Nah, el director doesn't seem like someone that cares too much about that given how he handled it. Besides, the IDs actually look like traditional butlers and maids. If he would have tried to appeal to the crowd that complained about the game not having IDs in bikinis, Ishmael having a wetsuit instead of a swimsuit and Sinclair having his shirt undone, then he would have made these IDs look sexier or reveal more skin or made all the women maids like Ryoshu instead of butlers (Unlike butler Outis and Faust).

Though I hated that if you don't have two first good turns you might as well restart.
>fight starts
>he rolls 5 speed
>all of your units also roll 5 speed or less
>instant restart

Bravo El Director, you got me good this time. Honestly feel like he should always get 1 speed on turn 1, so you get punished for failing the reading check, instead of being punished for clicking play.

Beat him with a burning team after a bunch of attempts because the only sinking units I have leveled and uptied are all Ishmaels. Sometimes it really felt like I'd lose one clash and he'd instantly reset to full sanity and rape me, but after setting him on fire hard enough it just worked out.

edit after playing through some of part 3: El Director, you actually got me, you fucking son of a bitch.

No way in hell. PM has always been classy-horny in a way that makes me think whoever does the design has studied the fuck out of fashion. Even back in the days where it was 10 layers of frills, there was an art to it. I know whether or not the bustle was in style was an obvious indicator of what people were into at the time, and that applies to basically all components of fashion, from high fashion to sweaters and yoga pants. Those bows on all those jackets are not a coincidence.

The maids were an inevitability. The artists can only be constrained for so long. before they broke out. It's a miracle they didn't come out sooner.

Holy shit, getting filtered in the very first battle. Later today I'll try a burn team to burn the chain down since its defence is ridiculous and you need to go against way too many as it is.

FUCK YOU HIDEO KOJIMA

Anyways, the gameplay was kinda fucking awful this canto with the exception of the two final fights. Zero sanity start boss fights where you need to absolutely win clashes on turn 1 or else you're fucked are terrible, I beg you PM, never fucking again. I don't know how we even got here, because last canto always gave you jobbers to juice up your sanity against before fighting the actual boss, or had a less important first few turns.

Heathcliff is absolutely raping base team at the moment and It’s crafted with a malevolence I haven’t felt since playing modded dark souls

Every single sinner has one move that insta staggers them and with a lurking horror I realized the ol chains of other spam wasn’t going to work because my envy resource drug mule was currently busy pummeling Don Quixote into a fine red mist

I have no clue how I’m going to do the rest of the stuff because 15 or so tries and I don’t even know if I’m on the curve yet.

I don’t even think Meursalt can clash unless Heathcliff consents to it. Where was this violence last fight Heath? Where you never won a single fucking clash?

EL DIRECTOR HAS DONE IT AGAIN! HOW CAN A MAN KEEP PRODUCING THIS MANY ABSOLUTE CINEMAS IS BEYOND ME!
Now, I may yaap in another post about the canto and the book once I have recollected my thoughts. But I'll cut to the chase now and recommend you all experience both the book and Canto by yourselves. Faust's canto was next in line right? I'm going to read Fausto once I have some free time.

If Im not mistaken, and going off of how the sinners were presented at the start of the game, the next canto is Don Quiotes

I agree with the sentiments I've seen going around in the community that this canto is another step up from PM, story was great, music was good and for the most part the difficulty increase ment I couldnt just winrate my way through the story like I felt I could in Canto 5.
If there was one place that I feel PM has taken a step back though its with their use of story and battle nodes, part 3 had a good balance but part 1 had an early glut of story nodes taking up 10 of the first 13 nodes, where as part 2 was all battle nodes.
Another thing that I found disapointing during part 3 was the most difficult part for me was the first fight, but after that the difficulty cratered and remained fairly easy outside of the boss fights, but even then they were fairly simple and the last boss fight was almost a gimme for its win condition.

Kino canto, a lot of snowballing for the fights though if you mess up in the beginning. Should have just leveled a squad to 45 because it was just tedious at 40 with some some of the clashes and also felt like the coin flips would always work in the enemies favor even at -15+ SP. The new EXP Lux is barely an upgrade as well with only 2 extra gold tickets compared to the last. Really looking forward to Don's canto.

A slight spoiler for the Canto.
Some people have been commenting about Heath's ID dialogue changing, I checked and it sure did change. Everyone that had Pequod Heath before this canto can tell what's missing here.

I checked all the others and I didn't notice any change on their lines.
