I am taking this opportunity to necro the thread and slightly powerlevel by saying that I have recently gone back to play more Postal 4 with the intent to finish it this time.

Even two days in, the game still isn't quite hitting me with the same sense of fun I got out of Postal 2. I feel the presentation is trying too hard to lean into the toilet humor (quite literally) and it doesn't land very well. In fairness, despite it also being a product of its time, I think Apocalypse Weekend also suffers from the same problem. I don't care much for the radio, although having a Chatterbox style station was surprisingly nice until it already started looping on itself in less than an hour's worth of playtime. Game is also still a buggy mess after several optimizations, such as mission location markers occasionally breaking and the phone sometimes becoming unusable on mouse until either loading into a different area or saving and reloading the game.

However, I did appreciate the fact that I was able to write "Gayniggers" and "Faggots" on the billboards during the Tuesday mission without immediate, direct repercussion (I would have half-figured they'd institute some kind of check for something like that and maybe insta-gib you or something for daring to write "forbidden" words), so... There's that.

Anyone else appreciate Postal 2 more for the absurdism (i.e. cat silencers and throwing scissors) and satire more than the edgelord aspects?

What's your distinction between what's absurd and what's edgelord? Sticking a shotgun barrel up a cat's ass to use as a silencer seems pretty edgy to me. I'd consider the absurdity being the objectives are normal everyday chores that get interrupted by third parties engaging in acts of violence, which you can choose to ignore and run away.

It's the fact that it's a cat's ass that's absurd. Or for another example Postal Dude being able to piss napalm in the NG+ mode. Itchy and Scratchy-level cartoonish violence, basically. Forms of inflicting injury that would simply be physically impossible in the real world.

Get the fuck out of my walls. Played Postal 4 lately, as well. To keep it short, I'll say I got my money's worth out of the game and likely check out the next big update when it happens.
Postal 2 is getting the VR treatment.

they couldn't make postal 4 not run like shit, can they remake postal 2 for a niche audience that will most likely not buy the game because they don't have vr to begin with?
The VR port is being done by Flat2VR Studios who, at the very least, know how to turn flat games into VR. This is also "Team Beef" who have turned games like Half-Life 1, Doom 1-3, and Duke Nukem 3D from flat games into VR games. These are all great ports and they know what they're doing.

To note, Postal 2 before the Steam release was also way more grounded and mundane. The game as it is known now is like playing HL2 with Smod Redux and calling that the "real" HL2.

Postal 2's most appealing aspects to me are the unpleasant atmosphere and the small but highly interactive sandbox.

The atmosphere is great because there is that lingering, menacing, undercurrent of madness almost everywhere. The low hum in the air, the yellowish sky, the NPCs who are more lifelike than most in games but still just a little off in a way that can annoy you. It's like a mad reality that is just realistic enough that your actions feel like they have weight, but not too much to make you actually feel guilty when you go postal.

This is totally lost in the following games where they lean way too hard into the wacky shit. Rather than kind of menacing crazy worlds with some dark humor you get wacky funny worlds with poop everywhere.

Postal 4 at least brought back some of the heavy interactivity. I always find myself gravitating towards small open worlds where you can deep dive into locations and fuck with NPCs as the best examples of the genre.

Why the hell RWS hasn't put a Night Dive remaster of Postal 2 with long overdue bug fixes, 60 FPS, optimization, QOL improvements and the expansion included with ports for modern console ports so the peasants can finally experience the glory as a Go Fund Me project is beyond me, SURELY it would get fully funded fast as all hell. I know I would back it.

It probably won't happen because Postal 2 was made with a beta version of Unreal 2. The only other way it could happen is if Night Dive does the usual remaster/remake in the KEX engine wizardry that they're known for. Most of Night Dive's remasters are remakes in the Kex engine. And doing that with Postal 2 would be an astonishingly tall task and also have it cooperate with mods.

Somewhat off topic: is that Eternal Damnation mod finally playable in current year Postal 2?

I don't know I haven't played it since I finally beat it a couple years ago. But hey I would be down for a remake of 2 as well, either way would be cool so long as the charm is there.

Postal 2 is pretty much all RWS has. They will milk it until they can't milk it anymore, a Postal 2 remaster is probably something they keep behind glass case in an emergency, kind of like the mediocre Oblivion demaster Betehsda just released, even tho leaks show it was finished and sitting idly by for years.
