Something about Postal 4, it's missing something. I guess with the trend of incomplete, broken games nowadays, that novelty is lost.

It just really pisses me off, they charged 30$ fo an EA game and then barely fixed shit upon release.
Activision, EA, Ubisoft, 2K, Squeenix, Capcom, Epic, Sony and Microsoft do the exact same bullshit. Barely polish the games til long after release.

I'm still really confused about POSTAL 4. Was there some mass layoff or something?
POSTAL 2 was one of the best fucking games I've ever played. Paradise Lost was one of the best fucking games I've ever played. What happened?

There are a lot of theories.

One is that the Running with Scissors guys were early 20s edgelords back in the day and are now guys in their mid 40s with families so they just naturally mellowed out with age.

Another is that the gaming landscape is much much more restrictive, censorious, and anti creative freedom than it was in 2004 and you can't market an unironic school shooting sim anymore.

The second one makes the most sense to me since the edgy humor is massively toned down and most of the enemies are "acceptable" targets like cartel members and rednecks.

Ye, true, but least they don't release them in EA state demanding a good amount of cash for it.

Tell that to that trashfire Hatred.

I think they toned it down to get a console release. Because the consoles won't allow AO rated games.

Probably for an M rarting. Postal 2 had an M rating as well as oppose to its original AO rating.

Postal 4 was announced not too long after Paradise Lost (around 5 years I believe).
Paradise Lost felt like a proper continuation of the events of Apocalypse Weekend while also making "peace" with Postal 3's existence. The writing felt onpoint with what we had before.

But 4's writing feels oddly dated and safe all things considered.

I think its a by product of two things

1- Its legit harder to make a parody of today's world when every newsline these days feels like an unaware parody. Its far easier to mock conservative america that took itself far too seriously than liberal america that doesnt take itself seriously at all. The jokes of yesterday became the political talking points of today. How you can make fun of a retarded world that acts proud of its own stupidity? Its not impossible but it requires far more talent and thinking than RWS probably wanted to bother with.

2- Its far more dangerous to mock liberal america than conservative america. The latter usually caused boomers to throw political tantrums that went nowhere and exposed they knew little of what they were upset by or nothing at all. At worst, all you got was a finger wagging and I suppose that you can say that most of it had their hearts in the right place. As for the former, these people are very connected, very spiteful and thus far more capable of causing some serious damage to those that dared to mock them. I know going over these details is a tad redundant since there is no lack of examples. And unlike the conservatives of old, most liberals of today are legit malicious and shameless about it, almost coming off as cultish in nature. I much prefer the parents that freaked out over their kids being corrupt at the smallest of things to parents that gladly expose their children to the worst of things to "educate" them, at least you could say the former had good intentions. Ultimately, RWS knows their writing cant be old school edgy anymore because they know if they piss off the wrong groups too much, these individuals will NEVER stop until RWS is destroyed and all of its members have hanged themselves in a public act of "apology". We are dealing with legit insane people backed by powerful people.

So its best to play safe or else there might not even BE a RWS anymore after a big enough backlash and boycott. It doesnt make it right but its sadly not the early 2000's anymore, its the 2020's and it sucks for anyone with half a sense of humor and neuron.

I think the colour scheme doesnt help. Postal 1-3 had a pretty grimmy tone and atmosphere. There was almost never a clean blue sky (when there was one it was very cloudy and you could barely see the blue), there was always this sense of "wrongness" in its setting even when it wasnt trying to be weird atm. This sense of unnatural-ness enhanced the parody tone and the creepy factor.

Almost like Postal 2 subtly reminds you of the first game and how it cant escape its horrifying energy.

Postal 4 feels oddly...clean and bland. It doesnt feel "dirty" enough. Its lacking an identity.

Isn't there a scene where a mexican guy gets run over by a rabid SJW on their way to stop the dude from culturally appropriating their graffiti? That was kind of funny, and it made that faggot Civvie seethe.

I think it's more there are no fun targets anymore. Regardless of your politics, it is uncomfortably close to home.

I agree that a lot of this could be fixed with a nastier tone. It does have Saints Row syndrome. The menace has been replaced with sanitized poop humor and wacky quips.

You could tell someone that Postal 4 is a fanmade game instead of being made by RWS.

4 would work better as a DLC using 2´s graphics and jokes.

I think it's worth mentioning two things if we're talking current day RWS affairs.

1) Vince Desi is no longer at the helm of making the games, and instead his right hand man is now the lead of that part of the development, and that Mike J who is an insecure kike who will ban you off of their Discord server if you hurt his feefees, no matter how much of a "sticks and stones" guy he might pose as. And I think the amount of peepeepoopoo humor in 4 compared to the general zing of humor in 2/PL shows that rather well.

And yes 2) means their Discord is also infested with them and will ban you if you hurt their feefees too.

We also need to remember, that P2 came out with the Unreal 2 engine while 4 wants to use Epic's newest Engine, which they clearly didn't wanna bother studying much, and thus all the stuff in the game looks WAY too shiny and cartoony.

Now it all makes sense.

Once you let a tranny in, you are fucked.
Also the description of the tranny is far less sarcastic than that of Vince and Mike J, I wonder why.

No joking here, thats something even POSTAL 3 was able to do better because even then it kind of had this colour scheme and style that felt more akin to what came before. Postal isnt mean to be a "pretty looking" franchise and I dare say its somewhat janky nature in 2 aided on that identity. Its meant to be pretty south park ish in that way that humanity isnt portrayed that positively but still doing in a satirical manner where its clear these arent meant to be real people, just caricatures. Thats something even The Postal movie understood.

It would have been better to go with an older engine the have more experience or knowledge than something new that hasnt been truly studied and experimented enough. And its not like Im saying Postal 4 couldnt have its own identity but it also needed to be a good one if you will bother changing things up. Postal 4 has some good to its presentation, mostly the cutscenes and the music. And I actually do not dislike Postal Dude's look in 4, sure, its not the classic but you can change to it later on and it does show sort of the "Big Lebowski" tone we are going for. I also thought it was good visual character dev since it did show the Postal Dude in a more relaxed and even "happy" state now that its just him and Champ. And I was even willing to give Jon St. John a chance.

The problem begins when the gameplay does because its just Postal 2 set in modern times but not nearly as much edgy guts. I also noticed that, unlike the previous ones, there isnt much reward for exploration. In Postal 2, if you could get somewhere, even if it was hard to reach, there would usually be a reward, like crack or maybe even a gun you dont get normally until later on. In Postal 4, you shouldnt bother that much because a lot of the places are copy and pasted and they rarely have hidden goodies.

Im a huge postal player and its just a lot of things my mind noticed given how familiar I was to its style by this point. It all just keeps piling up.

I think the issue is that RWS never dropped that desire of making a huge open-world Postal game, much as they pissed and moaned about P3 (even though they also had a hand in its fuck up), they desperately wanted to have that become a reality. The Unreal 2 engine had its limits, and because of that you cannot make what they originally envisioned, so when the 4th Unreal Engine comes out letting you create entire huge locations, they of course jumped on that quickly. But as I said again, they didn't bother studying the engine or experimenting with it, as their entire knowledge of Unreal was just the 2nd engine, so, of course, they get a bunch of fresh programmers and coders and just poke 'em with a stick going "Make a game! Make game now!"
