While we're talking B2W2, the difficulty system has the single worst designed unlock method ever. Who the fuck thought version locking, and completion-gating, difficulty settings for a game with no New Game Plus, or even more than one save file, was a remotely good idea?

if joe found it early, that could be it, but it could also just be someone who agrees with him promoted it first. even then, i wouldn't be surprised if joe started it, because nothing says 'long-term twitter user' like a complete lack of knowledge about the Streisand Effect

Mawile was my first shiny in that game, absolute beast. It's a tragedy that this isn't a normal evolution, I wouldn't even care if they nerfed it, it needs to stick around.

To be honest, shinies aren't that big of a deal for me. Some are cool and all, but not necessary. All of the shinies I have that weren't guaranteed or from events I just found randomly.

I never hunted shinies.
However the few times I encountered them in any game, they ended up getting me to catch them for the novelty. I think in one of my Sapphire play-throughs I ended up chancing upon a shiny Golbat in Victory Road, and ended up training him into Crobat - which I otherwise would have never done.

If I wanted to play a Pokemon game for the first time since Red, which one should I play?

I recommend getting the 3DS port because that allows you to do things like Mystery Gift and catch Celebi - you can't do that with the physical copy and it's comfy as fuck playing Crystal on a physical console again.

Last time I checked you can trade with others who have rereleases AND transfer Gen 1 mons to GSC!

There’s definitely some trash in every gen, but 8 was the one that made me feel like a genwunner. Also, as cool as Mega Rayquaza looks, I wish it didn’t exist, the power creep went way too far starting in Gen 6.
