Let's talking about the Dynamax Adventures. They were a big selling point of the DLC because you could get fancy legendaries from old gens. There were a lot of questions, but now that the DLC is out we know more. First, the good.
1) Legendaries have a 100% catch rate. So, for people who want to shove their mewtwo in a Safari or beast ball, rejoice! Just have to beat it and you're set.
2) Anything you catch can be shiny, and this is the first time you can get some shiny legends without events or hacking. The Gen 7 Tapus are now available, as are Necrozma, Zygarde and the Cosmog evos.
3) The shiny rate is much, much higher than normal. It's 1/300 normally, 1/100 if you have the Shiny charm.
That's the good stuff. Here's the bad:
1) The adventures are punishingly difficult, and mostly because of RNG. You have two ways to play. Option one is solo with AI companions, or online with randos or friends. Both are bad for different reasons. The AI loves to use status moves, hates to attack, and makes baffling choices sometimes. Randos online aren't any better usually.
2) You have to get through 4 encounters total, 3 plus the legendary. You have 4 KOs before you're out. Not per battle mind you, total. This means that if you end up having NPC's butterfree dying 3 times in the first fight, you might not even make it to the legendary. On top of that, there's no way to "get back" any of the KOs. Damage and status affects persist, so if you're poisoned at the end of battle you may as well swap out your pokemon. There's berries that can heal, but they're not guaranteed.
3) Swapping pokemon is neat in theory, but it's a double edged sword. You can swap whenever you catch a pokemon, but only one person can do it. There's some sort of order and math that determines who gets to swap if there's multiple people who do. If you're not online, usually this means some idiot keeps swapping out his pokemon each round.
4) The paths show you only ONE type of the upcoming battle. So you have a bunch of water types and you choose a Fire branch. Welp, turns out you're up against a Fire/Electric type and he just wipes out your team. Whoops.
5) The rentals you get are too weak. Seriously, one Max move is usually enough to wipe out some of the mons you can use. Nothing you can do about it, that's it, you're down a life already.
6) It's a huge slog to go through. The battles themselves are so slow, and the fact you have to beat 4 of them stinks. You can only keep one of the pokemon you catch which is usually fine. Who goes into this for a butterfree when you can just find it in a den? Still, if you find multiple shinies, you're screwed.
All in all, I hate them. It stinks, because I wanted to like them.
