While it's certainly true that fake sprites are being passed around (Femmesprout comes to mind)
Are you talking about this,

Or something else?

Nope, that's definitely real. That's from the Spaceworld leak two years prior (though it's worth mentioning that Bellmitt did receive a slight design alteration in the form of a different leaf pattern before ultimately getting cut).

I know for sure that those sprites definitely don’t look like genuine Pokemon at all. In fact they look like baby’s first Fakemon.

makes me wonder what the names for these beta Pokemon would have been? Maybe Cyndiquil wasn’t always gonna be fire type.

Is this a Pokémon based off the trireme or plesiosaur?

What the fuck, this is Aipom???

That plesiosaur is obviously supposed to be a Viking longboat, and it looks fucking AWESOME.

The one after that looks a bit like it could be beta Chingling.

It makes me wonder why Gamefreak is just unwilling to showcase "behind the scenes" stuff regarding the Pokemon Gold & Silver development. I might understand taking down stuff which use your IP for fangames or some shit, but these are just leaks and sprites. The only possible way might be down to some contracts involved (e.g. "Do not reveal these to the public") but come on.

Heck, Mario Odyssey had an official artbook showcasing behind the scenes which even includes Nintendo's version of Bowsette.

I’ve been hearing that some are going to leak the beta for Pokémon Green. So it’s possible that they might have the beta Pokémon that got cut from the game. Most likely the big one like seeing Gorochu’s front Sprite for the first time.

I hope it’s something like this but it probably won’t look like that though.

because game freak is really antsy about showing behind the scenes shit and always has been because 1. they can reuse designs for later games when they have a brain fart and 2. they are secretive of their shit alot of the time

I always thought that Zangoose looked alot like a Raichu evolution. I wouldn't be surprised if elements of Gorochu's design were recycled into it.

If there's one thing I learned about nu-GameFreak is that they absolutely hate not only looking bad but when people ask them questions. That whole "Dexit" debacle is proof enough, but in regards to these leaks, picture this scenario...

You run a company that released a new Pokemon game months ago that even though the sales were high, it got HEAVILY criticized because of decisions your company made (the cut pokemon, the new Gigantamax forms, the removal of Z-Powers and Mega Evolutions, etc...). The fact that not only early leaks went around showing how the game isn't as optimized as the others were, but that you pretty much did a copy/paste job from SM/USUM made things worse. Aside from the competitive scene, not a whole lot of people are taking an instant liking to the new pokemon designs, and the ones that are are mostly swooning over the past gen "Galarian" verisons (basically Alolan 2: Electric Boogaloo). Now this leak shows up, which shows more proto/beta designs from a past game that your company couldn't even complete without Satoru Iwata's help. The worst part... EVERYONE loves these beta/proto designs, more-so than the new pokemon. A rush of sadness, anger, rage, and depression fills your body, and now you want revenge on the person that made your life much worse than it already was.

This is the only thing I can think of as to why they have been insta-quick with the take-downs and basically taking a "hush-hush" stance with this.

Looking at all these awesome and unique beta designs, it only becomes more and more painfully obvious they played gen II far too safely. Seriously, so many Johto mons look bland and unfinished compared to Kanto's lot and beyond (it really says something that quite a large chunk of the Sinnoh bonus evos were for Johto mons). Remoraid and Octillary even serve as examples where the designs still made it but were heavily "nerfed." You went from a goddamn glock fish and cannon/tank octopus to, literally just a fish and octopus...

That said there were some good calls with the cuts, most of all being the boatload of baby mons essentially being halved. I think there's more in the beta than there is in the entirety of the franchise currently, and I don't even want to think about the utter nightmare it would've been having to get them all considering GF loves making acquiring the damn things as painful and asinine as possible

That would be cool! I was hoping something like this would happen.

I never got the point of baby pokemon. Other than being "cute", they don't really serve a purpose, and they make breeding even more difficult (looking at you Magby, Cleffa & Igglybuff) Even with Eviolite, they get knocked out in like 1-2 hits.

I'd say the reason for why we got what we got for Gen 2 mon is because of Nintendo and TPC and the want to sell merchandise. Cool as the beta versions are, a lot of them just aren't suitable to sell as toys or dolls or appeal to a broad demographic. At that point, Pokemon was less just a game series and more a media franchise already; Nintendo and TPC knew this. Too many "cute" designs (baby mon) would be annoying to collectors and overwhelm your casuals, too many "cool" designs would be offputting to many.
What they needed was recognizable designs and while Gen 2 is bland for the most part, there are iconic designs within people latch onto today like Ampharos, Espeon, Umbreon, Tyranitar, Houndoom, and Dunsparce.

Remember that, at the time, breeding was a brand new mechanic. So the baby mons were basically ambassadors to showcase it. Of course that didn't stop that from pumping out more of the annoying things. Though thankfully they've stopped doing them altogether sans Toxel (the first baby since gen IV).

Essentially what @UntimelyDhelmise said. Although, some baby mons have access to certain moves their evolution can't learn in later generations through leveling up, like Pichu with the setup move Nasty Plot.

Except Pokemon like Plusle and Minun, whom are in the same egg group as Pikachu, learn Nasty Plot by leveling up, so they could have easily programmed it to where Pikachu could learn it as an egg move from them without needing a baby form.
