I finished the main game of Sw/Sh and now in the """post game""" section.

Initial thoughts:
I thought GF could have done more work with Bede's characterization. Literally missed potential for a really good rival. His encounter theme was pretty much the only good song out of the few songs I liked in Sw/Sh.

Also, the final city's theme is hilarious. Okay, so you're climbing up this mountain, and after all of your "hard work", you are greeted to hearing the epitome of "you are the circus for playing this game":

God, even the music’s terrible. Is there anything GF hasn’t fucked up?

While asshole rivals are good they shouldn’t be the only type of rival. There should be a diversity.

The problem is that GF went way too long coasting by with the basic formula that when they did decide to go all out with stories they had no experience. That sad part is that when they decided to break the mold they made genuinely good first steps. Platinum did a good job and HGSS took it further by taking a decade old game and fleshing out the characters. It was so much fun watching gym leaders interact and have lives outside of their gyms. The best part was that it wasn’t intrusive at all, it was bonus content that enriched the gameplay experience and felt like a huge love letter to Gen II fans.

Gen V took it further and GF actually improved. Sure Unova was more linear and railroaded than previous games but I didn’t care. It was the first time I actually gave a shit about the world and its characters in a Pokemon game. It struck a (mostly) perfect balance between story and gameplay. What worked was that compared to later games interactions between the plot and characters were far more organic. I loved having nothing but new Pokemon until post game. Unova was the first mainline generation not based on a real life Japanese location and it gave the impression that the region was more foreign and far away from the rest. I was a bit disappointed when BW2 decided to add older Pokemon to the region dex but it wasn’t a deal breaker.

When the 3DS games came out GF suddenly decided to throw all that progress out the window. As I said earlier on in this thread they couldn’t decide if they wanted to go back to the basics or continue on with a deeper plot. The result was a mess of ideas and games that had no direction or an identity of their own. Gen V may not have been perfect but the direction and vision of a more plot focused game was far more clear.

The biggest thing that bothers me the most about the 3DS games was that it was obvious GF wanted to please everyone. Between catering to older fans with nostalgia pandering to making the games more basic for newcomers it was obvious. I wonder if they got backlash for Gen V exclusively focusing on new Pokemon. Nostalgia pandering was so intrusive that it cost Kalos having its own identity. They didn’t even bother with giving the new Pokemon mega forms despite the mechanic debuting there. They could have at least given the starters one.

I don’t care about what direction GF wants to take with a generation as long as it is clear. Want to make a story focused game? That is fine. Want to make a game using the basic classic formula? That is fine too. Just pick one and stick with it. Of course GF is too far gone right now so I have no faith in them doing that.
Unova was ABSOLUTELY bashed to utter hell back in the day because of the "new mons only" aspect (even though, as I've said multiple times, you get direct access to old mons halfway through the region due to the way the story is structured). And as has become evident, that was the worst possible reaction the fanbase could've had, because now GF are scared shitless of pissing off genwunners and have to shove Kanto in our faces 24/7.

Ran a test on the gift charmander (because i did not reset for nature on it) on how long it took to make it comp viable.
2 hours~...
1 hour to reset ivs, max evs, get to level 100, get its proper moves.
1 hour~ grinding battle tower for a nature mint.

gotta say that this is really REALLY fucking good.

Yeah I recall all the backlash Unova got and it is a real shame because these are the same fans who whine about wanting a new experience in the series. Adding old Pokemon to the BW2 regional dex was the first step to pacifying angry fanboys and the first sign that GF was going to start heavily pushing older Pokemon in future games. They know banking on the nostalgia of Millennials with an unhealthy attachment to their childhood rakes in the cash. Fans have themselves to blame for the current state of the series alongside GF.

Goddamn it, even if they had kept it to the 3DS as widely speculated, the music would still have been a mess. What the fuck even is supposed to be the theme behind the music, anyway? At least with Alola, they went out of their way to try and implement island music to match the atmosphere, but they couldn't even do that for Galar's British Isles inspiration because "muh sports".

It was like they were this close to saying "fuck all of y'all" and just making vuvuzela sounds the whole time.

So, since this is based off the UK, did they add any bagpipes to the soundtrack?

Because at least Gen 7 tried an tropical theme with the Pokemon Center.

Well now with ample time with the game, I feel like writing my little thoughts on it. A psuedo review that will piss some people off since this thread has devolved into a circle jerk since a certain boomer started tweeting about it.

1. Story
Overall it's retarded. Plain and simple. Some might say something like ">expecting story from a pokemon game", but its like, really sloppy this time. The characters however is a lot more likable overall Bede being the stand out for having the best arc over the story. Hop also has a much more interesting arc compared to his counter part in sun and moon. Marnie is weaker but she shares it with her more interesting family member. Leon is likable if not a little mary sue-ish. Worst off in the "good" group is the professors daughter, that has an arc that expects you to care about, but you dont. The gym leaders have more character then in past gens. Team yell is team skull part 2, the REAL evil team makes Magma and Aqua look like true big brains. Replacing the elite 4 with a tournament with the gym leaders is neat, however they should not heal you between matches, and should have boosted their levels a lot more on rematch. Though having the cover legendary quest post game is actually a good touch and is more interesting then the main game's "conflict"

2. Gameplay
It's a pokemon game, you know what to expect, only thing I can do is shed light on some common questions about certain common questions I see asked around. Exp and overleveling is.... well done i guess, the system leaves its self open to being broken apart as much as you need it to be. While running through the story I spent a lot of time catching most the pokemon on a route, my levels would usually end up LOWER then wild pokemon on the next new route, HIGHER then the trainers of that route, and around par for the gym coming up. Wild area changes this for obvious reasons however and open up to how hard you are willing to over level. Speaking about the wild area, its actually pretty cool if not somewhat small, has a lot of pokemon you can catch opening up team variety. However, its actually more of a post game feature. The raid battles are going to be you main supply for creating competitive pokemon, and the items you get from them make them almost mandatory when taking saved time into account. The actual battle itself is fun enough to not be a total bore. Other post game content is the battle tower, the legendary quest (probably slightly longer then the delta episode), and championship rematches. The wild area will be the playtime hog however. It shapes up to be the best postgame for a FIRST INSTALLMENT in a new generation at this point. Overall the first 2/3rds of the game is nicely polished, falls apart a bit after you hit the rock/ice gym, and gets itself together again for post game.

3. Performance
It looks like a ps3 jrpg and it runs like shit. the gym leaders have neat animations, some pokemon have neat new idle and attack animations. I personally havent experienced any sort of crashes but some people get them bad.

4. Overall
Its alright, is it worth the $60? probably not but you bought it already if you like pokemon and had a decent time with it already. If your just here to shitpost then obviously not.

Here is were I would place it in the meme tier list. quality within the letter grade decreasing from left to right. (debating if frlg deserves to be that high)

Good post man, so If I have this right level scaling is wack since you are higher then normal trainers but lower then wild pokemon? that's weird
also was USM that good, everyone I talked to said it ruined the original somehow? though since I'm not that found of SM I'm more curious then anything else of what it changed

You raise Crystal from C to A or B right now, ree

As entertaining as that would be, there probably won't be a thread.

Let's face it, guy's as interesting as soggy toast, with a personality to match. He's way too boring to make a thread about, and the only thing that's even close to thread worthy is him sperging out, constantly rehashing his points, and comparing pokemon to the Hong Kong protests.

Other than that, the guy's just boring and it's only a matter of time before he falls into obscurity... Especially if his content gets marked with 'made for kids' that youtube's slapping on everyone.
Yeah, you're right. I'm guessing though that his Sword and Shield play through he's going to do where he's supposedly just going to be criticizing the game is his attempt to keep his fanbase.

Why's G/S so low? They improved upon R/B/Y significantly, although the remakes definitely are close to godtier. ORAS should switch places with Sun/Moon or Crystal because they didn't give us the Battle Frontier.

it butchered the story according to people ive heard, but who gives a shit about that. As for the exp it SEEMS intentional somehow, it seems like they want you to constantly rotate the team.

pre physical/special split is garbage. and makes it automatically lower then anything post gen 4. gen 3 gets as high as it does despite of that.

No, never.

To everyone acting surprised that this exists, you’re not. You’re not fucking surprised at all. In other news, water is wet.
Now I wanna see one of these comics but it’s actually realistic and their stomach explodes and they die horribly. It would be horrifying, but it would also be fucking funny.

Oh yeah, keep forgetting they didn't split physical/special attack. It makes Shadow Ball pretty hilarious in hindsight, especially in Pokémon that actually excel in both physical and special so it didn't change for them.
