Until we can really get our teeth into it, we can't really judge Dynamaxing as a concept until players flesh it out.
But it's so much easier and feels so much better to make sweeping assumptions about something we don't have all the details on! Doom and gloom, doom and gloom!

In all seriousness I'm interested in how this is going to effect comp meta. Dyna/Gigantamaxing is a decent idea in that it fuses the former concepts of Z-Move and mega evolution. We'll see how the execution goes

Also I'm interested to see the "streamlined" ways to make competitive ready mons, and the ranked system

GF is pissed because it will kill game sales, even if its only 10% of 20 million people, that's still 120 million down the drain. GF was intentionally not letting anyone show anything because they knew how bad it was, writing was on the wall. They should only blame themselves.

GF cares about game sales but realizes that over two thirds of the revenue generated from the Pokemon franchise since its inception has been from merchandising.

You need shit new shit to merchandise to keep the cycle going, Pokemon is not invincible in that regard. Look at Star Wars another one of the biggest franchises in the world, one awful movie that really hit people the wrong way really hurt the brand bad (cost Disney over 700 mil). The prequels were bad, there is no doubt about that. However the hardcore fans were pleased, so even though critically the movies bombed the Star Wars franchise still did really well. Adult nerds are where the money is at, you piss them off you lose big time.

Put down your 3DS and listen to me
It's time to buy your online pass
It's time to move your Pokemon to the Home app
It's time to stick bugs in your ass
You better lock all your Pokemon up in Home
You better make another gimmick too
You better leak online before release time
You better find which Kanto Pokemon grew
You better cut all the creatures you can
While Tajiri is not around
Make a big open area and make it really bland
Make another rabbit
Piss on all of your fans
Make all of those Galar bans
It’s in the plans
Dare to be stupid
Turn on exp. share
Spend your time on Camping
Get your team to work on Town
I'll show you how
You can dare to be stupid
You can say the region’s cold
You can reuse Double Kick
You make a bunch of Z Moves and forget to keep them in
Dare to be stupid
Come on and dare to be stupid
It's so easy to do
Dare to be stupid
We're all waiting for you
Let's go
It's time to make a stream for one reveal
So can I make it last a day
We made Wingull pivot in the sky
Now it's time for us to hit the hay
Reuse models, animations, and pretend they’re new
Program while pretending like you have a clue
And make 100 curries for your fans to stew
It's for you, you can dare to be stupid
It's like stealing raids from GO
Put awful textures on a tree
It's like I said you gotta buy one if you want 12 Quick Balls free
Dare to be stupid (yes)
Why don't you dare to be stupid
It's so easy to do
Dare to be stupid
We're all waiting for you
Dare to be stupid
Put Charizard in the game again
Give it a special form as well
All those shills can be your friends
You can make your animations look all wrong
You can distribute a Meowth just to make it long
The future's up to you
So what you gonna do
Dare to be stupid
Dare to be stupid

any series has a shelf life, funnily enough pokemon might one day run into the same issue Star Wars did, Over Saturation
having multiple gens per system really cheapened new games. R&B launched on GB, G&S on GBC (though it was playable on original GB) R&S on GBA and D&P on DS, ever since B&W happened pokemon has been pumping shit out constantly. Spin offs used to put let gens live longer but now, each new gen doesn't feel special since we will get another in one or two years anyway.

You’re right, like many franchises they have to do the delicate balancing act of hooking new young fans, pleasing the older ones, and satisfying the whales. This becomes especially tough as the tastes of the older fans change (or don’t) and they become militant. You gotta treat those fuckers right or the negative hype will set in, even if they’re hard to please.

I don’t know, it’s hard to say; on the one hand fans can be babies on the other hand fuck the corporate brand managers for telling the people what they have to like and treating them like shit for expressing what they want.

I’m not saying that either case is totally applicable to Pokemon because I’ve only been following the development and drama from the periphery, but the realities of maintaining a franchise in the face of fan pushback are often messy.

There’s so much going into the development of SWSH that has more to do with brand management than it does with good game development. That said, the moment they abandon the core commitment to a quality game is when the whole thing can start to unravel, as it did with Star Wars.

I long for a world when entertainment companies finally realize that a small investment in making good art is the best way to make a property profitable. Marketing is important, but spend a little extra to hire some people who care, and understand the IP.

If we take it as a given that future Pokémon games are not going to contain every Pokémon, then the cuts we got set a good precedent, because it means GF isn’t going to just pick all the Kanto pokes + all the popular pokes to stick in every game. When the news was first announced, there were a ton of people bitching that their favorite unpopular Pokémon would never be in another game, now you have people bitching that the popular Pokémon aren’t gonna be in it. The only constant here is that people are gonna bitch about it.

All the mobile shit killing traditional spin-offs (the business conference earlier this year all but confirmed that, the Detective Pikachu sequel was the ONLY game there that was coming to a traditional system) definitely feels like it sped up the yearly cycle. They had a hand in helping each generation get a proper amount of time before the next set, but now thanks to the nature of mobile needing new content at a consistently rapid rate to keep the paypig flow going they have to shove out new games so fast there's barely any time to even let the new generation's setting and mons sink into the mind. It seriously feels like just yesterday when we were getting reveal trailers for Alola mons.

And of course that's even before getting into the basic quality degradation as a result of not being able to work on the games as long.

So... Blame China. Got it.

It also helped giving each gen its own identity, R&S started mystery dungeon, Gen 4 had the entire ranger series, and Gen 5 had conquest. it helps give its own spin on the world and make that era stand out a bit more.

Dracozolt: The powerful muscles in its tail generate its electricity. Compared to its lower body, its upper half is entirely too small.

Arctozolt: This Pokemon lived on prehistoric seashores and was able to preserve food with the ice on its body. It went extinct because it moved so slowly.

Dracovish: Its mighty legs are capable of running at speeds exceeding 40 mph, but this Pokemon can't breathe unless it's underwater.

Arctovish: The skin on its face is impervious to attack, but breathing difficulties made this Pokemon go extinct anyway

"K-kill me....."

Can't help but wonder if the fossil chimeras will get an update in the following games where you can make them whole again like this.

I know it wouldn't happen but I've been wanting a stegosaur fossil mon for a long time, notably one that isn't a horrific spliced abomination.
