I'm so mixed on Alola. There's so many things I absolutely adore about the region, but then there's so much that's just, awful...
The setting itself, regional forms (so glad Galar's at least carrying that on), the new Pokemon both in design and the worldbuilding for both them and older mons (the dex entries are some of the best in the series for this), the original story is surprisingly dark with a psychopath mother wanting to fuse with an inter-dimensional abomination, and the Ultra Wormholes were what ORAS's shoddy Delta episode wished it could be with its crappy explanation of why OG Hoenn didn't have megas but the remakes do. And the second games go even further by showing us where the Ultra Beasts come from, with some pretty damn disturbing implications for a Pokemon game like Guzzlord's homeworld.
But then you have shit like the worst handholding in the series (the entirety of the first island is just a neverending tutorial), unskippable cutscenes for a goddamn RPG, railroading to the point where you can't deviate from the main path more than 5 steps because fuck exploration, the second set of games being the absolute worst third versions by a country mile with few notable differences to make going through the game again worthwhile, and the differences that are there completely butcher the original story and several main characters (Lusamine and her kids in particular).
