Eh... This update isn't that surprising outside Galarian Weezing's Neutralizing Gas (which in and of itself isn't a new concept for Pokemon in general, negating Abilities has been a thing in the TCG since Fossil Muk's Toxic Gas Poke-Power) and the new battle items.
As far as the mechanical stuff is concerned Ranked Battles and certain online competitions giving you Championship Points/Worlds invites have been in the series since Gen 6, the reveal only showed that Ranked Battles have been simplified to an extent thanks to the new Pokeball ranking structure and announced Points-awarding online events ahead of release instead of announcing them with the tournament. Casual Battles allowing players to run tournaments is a nice addition but I feel it's more of a QoL feature instead of a proper one.
Oh, and in other news a #BringBackNationalDex demonstrator was supposedly kicked out of Worlds despite being his protesting being peaceful and receiving praise from both even-goers and event staff on his poster. In a somewhat surprising twist he's getting more support than people telling him he was in the wrong on Twitter, the only universal thing people on both sides seem to agree with is that they need collaborating evidence. My take on it is that it probably happened, TPCi gets REALLY lazy and will use Play! Pokemon volunteers as security instead of actually hiring a security force and some of the folks that volunteer for Play! Pokemon events can be MAJOR asskissers.
