I *could* post a video displaying the lessened attack animation quality in regards to fighting Dynamax Pokemon, but it's just more of the same and I'm not down for running in circles so instead I lurk.
Lemme guess... Distant Kingdom?
That actually sounds fun to talk about actually.
Personally, i saw the video, and I don't find the attacking moves from the smaller pokemon to be all that lackluster, especially when considering that from what we know from the raid battles - like considering how far the Dynamaxed pokemon is, you'd have to either speed up moves like Flame Charge or Rough play so the pokemon using it would have to go through that distance really quickly and come back again.
Then there's animating. At this point in time, Pokemon has a move pool that well over 700 moves, you'd not only have to do what I said above for the physical moves that have the pokemon cross the field, but you'd also have to expand the animation as well for all of them. And you wouldn't be able to just take the original animation and bloat it up, because just like with the huge pokemon, it'd look crappy and a huge mess.
Then there's the other factor of other players and time constraints.
One of the BIGGEST complaints that RPGs, even the good ones like Persona 5 and Octopath Traveler have gotten (Check people like RelaxAlax and Dunkey for their 'analysis' of that) is the time it takes to get through battles. And this can apply to pokemon too, heck, there's a reason why the games give you the option of turning off the graphics for the attacks. Now imagine having up to three other people in the battle system, not only thinking about what moves they wanna make, but also sitting through every single attack animation.
it's a means of making the battles fast paced, and it's something that game designers, especially those of RPGs, need to consider. For an extreme example, look at the Summons in FF7 and FF8, there were PLENTY of people who complained about the wait times for summons that you couldn't skip - Notable exception being Knights of the Round, the best summon in FF history arguably.
And even then, when you're fighting a Dynamaxed pokemon, are you really going to battle them for the graphics? No, you're fighting them in order to get a strong pokemon (at least from what we're told and going off of what Pokemon Go's mechanic does).
Thing is, Distant Kingdom is only looking at the frosting of the battles, and not actually taking into consideration other factors - Other players, time, and scaling/distance issues. I like frosting, but if the cake underneath it is burnt to a crisp, who the da fuck wants to eat that shit?
To me, DK is a graphics whore. Heck, the most popular video on his channel the Hop taking Hau's animation? Yeah, that's not a unique animation to Hau - Both Lusamine and a few kid NPCs do the animation too, which no one complained about back then:
The little girl right there next to Hau is doing it.
To me, it's more like complaining about the Walk cycle of a character being reused. It's something that wouldn't normally bug you, but if you got piss and vinegar in your veins, you're willing to blow it out of proportion.
But enough about that long tirade, I actually wanted to talk about Sinnoh as well, since there's an item in a fan game that I've already talked to death about. Pokemon Rejuvenation.
Again, story's batshit insane, but it's a good game mechanically, and what I'm about to talk about it actually makes it cooler. You see, in the later part of the game, you start to collect these items called Crests. These are held items that each have a name of a certain pokemon attached to them, and when you equip these items, said pokemon gets an additional power.
And how effective is it?
The items can make Ledian... LEDIAN... actually playable by essentially giving it the ability to punch with all four of it's arms with punching moves. Basically, use a punching move, it'll hit the target four times.
And there are more notable crests that actually boost lower tier pokemon:
-Leafeon: Haves damage from fire and flying attacks
-Glaceon: Halves damage taken from rock and steel attacks
-Bastiodon: Deals 50% damage taken as recoil and recovers that amount (this might actually be pretty good)
-Rampardos: Works like focus sash/sturdy
-Typhlosion: Atk scales with SpAtk, and contact moves do additional fire damage
-Feraligatr: Grants the ability strong jaw and the first move upon switch in gets priority
-Meganium: Meganium and allies take reduced damage and recover every turn
-Torterra: Swap resistances and weaknesses (so that's why my ice beam did nothing)
-Empoleon: Stat changes are doubled
-Infernape: Swap attacks and defenses
Mainly focused on the Gen 4 pokemon crests for this one, because... Well, Sinnoh.
And think it's a pretty cool concept, since not only does it give you a chance to work with lesser pokemon and make them viable, it also makes other pokemon have a secondary use other than one simple predestined role for it.
Oh, and Silvally gets a Crest too. You can actually combine it with the Memories, and not only does it change Silvally's appearance in the game, but it also does what the plates do for Arceus - Gives the moves of the same type a boost.
