Sounds more like they want to branch out and develop more than one game. They said they have different development teams working on both. Just because they want to develop a new one doesn't necessarily mean they're ditching the other.

I agree with that, but considering that we don't know what goes on behind the doors of Gamefreak, and with how vague they get sometimes, it wouldn't hurt for them to clarify better for their fans.

Most of their fan base are adults who are putting down 60 dollars for the new games, so they have to be more conscious with their money since sixty dollars is a healthy bit of money to people now-a-days. They should be more open especially with the latest 'controversy' going on.

It's kinda interesting how secretive GF is in regards to Pokemon itself. They kinda guard it like some super secret club thing. Can't ever show a lot of beta concept art in regards to designs or stories, and they very rarely let Pokemon cameo in other games like Mario or Zelda other than Smash Bros. Most it gets is a memorable line, catch em' all slogan, or Pikachu reference as easter eggs. The same could be said of their workforce which only consists of a small group of people. It's almost like a doujin group in a way.

It's pretty interesting to me that, despite being extremely loud and patronizing, the Sword and Shield defenders rarely if ever have any genuine arguments against the issues people have with the game and when they do it's always vague shit like "Oh programming is hard" or "oh they have other content to make up for it".

Otherwise it's just people shouting "It's not out yet!" "Grow up you man-babies!" "You're gonna buy it anyways so why complain?" "Stop harassing this billion dollar company that doesn't even speak the same language as you!" Or some other grade-school shit.

Not saying this is proof that SwSh will suck, just that it's interesting there's no refuting, just dismissing.

...you realize Game Freak started out as one?

Not really. The Dexit people are more loud and patronizing. I've actually seen people point things out - Like take that apparently floating wall that people keep bringing up. Which ignores the bloody fact that it wasn't from E3, but from the feb direct. While that may not seem like a big deal, to claim that it itself is going to be an issue in the main games is kinda dishonest. Especially when it's 2 seconds of footage.

Or how about the 'recycling animation' which, as much as we like to dunk on, Joe Merrick does have a point.

In addition, let's actually talk about the double kick animation.

Shock of all shocks, what people don't seem to understand when they talk about the Wii game, they tend to forget a very important aspect of Double kick.

Namely... Only 28 pokemon had the move at the time of the release. Meaning that there was a lot less pokemon to animate for the game as well as limiting the number of pokemon that would need animation for that specific move. And even then, watching footage of the games, they actually recycled attacking animations too at times.

0:34 Swellow's Giga Impact
2:13 for Swellow's U-Turn

Or speaking of Battle Revolution, a lot of people forget that that the game was strictly made for battling, and oddly enough, trainer customization (Yeah, that was a thing), meaning that there wasn't any need for characters, cutscenes, dialogue or any rendering of routes/etc.

I'm not saying that these are perfect arguments, but they are out there.

Personally, I find it more sad that you got the Dexit people complaining about how they're being mocked and ridiculed by Fanboys, yet if you go on reddit, it's almost like an opposite effect from reality.

thats because you just listen to autists and retards fighting.
cutting down the number of pokemon is a good choice. but it comes 2 gens to late. there are plenty of pokemon that nobody would miss, cutting most of them to save money and time for animation and balancing is good.

It just hit me, this franchise is fucked no matter what the fanbase does. They've locked us into a "damned if you do damned if you don't" situation with SWSH.

If we do buy the games, that gives them more excuses to continue being lazy with the main series' quality and cut even more content in the future.

If we don't and they sell badly enough, then they'll just look at the success of the mobile games, throw up their hands and possibly halt the main series altogether.

The new Masters mobile game is already looking like a straight up mobile version of a traditional game (new region, trainers from past games, evil team, the whole 9 yards) and we've already seen they're perfectly fine with introducing entirely new Pokemon on mobile (Meltan/Melmetal). It's only a matter of time until the main series as we know it is gone altogether. Probably the only thing that's going to keep it alive for now is Nintendo who wants those titles on their systems.

I've never been a mobile game person, I'm on my phone all the time I'd rather not be attached to it while I'm gaming too. My phone is usually full of lizard pictures and the battery always turns to shit so I'm not going to go out of my way to download any pokemon games on it unless it's worth it. I assume I'm not alone on this.

Pokemon isn't going to go away, it's too big and too much of a money/nostalgia sink for anyone to actually let it die. If neither the games nor mobile games do any good then they're really going to have to listen to fans or hand it over to someone who values the series more than them, which imo if they don't want it any more they should do just give it up now- but i suppose it pays the bills.

I honestly think no one would care about the graphics all that much if we could just have the national dex. I didn't hunt all those shinies to just leave them behind.

Honestly, whether or not the graphics are bad is a pretty subjective topic. Some people don't care for pixel graphics, others don't care for the 3D models. Personally, I honestly like the Models (not that I'm saying I perfer them over pixel sprites), mostly because of the idle animations the pokemon have in battle.

For example here's Necrozma's: 1505423567755.gif

This is one of my favorites simply because of how in character it is for this pokemon. It's pokedex entry states how this pokemon is in constant pain and how it seeks and consumes light in order to be relieved of that pain. The fact that the devs made this it's idle animation really shows the attention to detail they had with this thing.

Indeed, not to mention, wasn't it a bit of a staple that nintendo games were always on the short end of looking top notch? I remember that being a thing that Nintendo games were more sold on their gameplay rather than looking like PS4 or PC graphics.

While I do agree that some of the graphics in Sword and Shield aren't the best, the only reason people are getting on the case now is because of the National Dex thing. It's never really been an issue that's been hit up to such a degree, but I believe that it's been overblown excessively.

As a longtime Pokefag, I've got to say this has me on edge. With hearing about Gamefreak's wasteful use of data, I believe that if they were to compress their shit, they could easily fit the Pokemon in there. And the fact that they're phasing out Megas and Z-Moves for a three turn boost really doesn't look too good. While I'm not particularly wild about Z-moves, some of them are pretty nice, especially Kommo-o's signature z-move. Megas, on the other hand, are something I feel should've been built on. As we've seen with certain Pokemon, such as Mawile, Kangaskhan, and Beedrill, the right Mega can make a joke of a Pokemon into something potentially great. As for the graphics, I really don't care.

They say that Pokemon transferred to Home that aren't in the Galar-dex will have some sort of role. But until we know what that role is exactly, I do have to ask if it's worth it to transfer your Pokemon from compatible games, only to have them sit on a mobile app until Gamefreak deems them appropriate to appear in another game, assuming they just don't outright memory hole certain lines all together. Because from what I understand, once you transfer a Pokemon from Bank to Home, there's no bringing them back to Gen 6 or 7 at that point.

I think this is just another excuse to play favorites with Pokémon that are popular and leaving other less-popular 'Mons in the dust. Every Pokémon has their fans, of course, but some are much more loved and marketable than others. GenWunners are obnoxious, but then Game Freak's constantly pandering to them due to be the original 151 and therefore they're the most recognizable. If SwSh would've just gone the Black/White route and had just the Galar 'Mons in the main game, but also had a post-game rivaling HGSS (for God's sake, Game Freak, why haven't you made a good post-game in ages?), they could put in a patch to implement the National 'Dex over time.

But I guess that's just too haaaaaard.

This. I'm not blaming Masada for disaster. It's not his fault.

The problem is that Pokemon is such a huge franchise that the games have to keep up with the anime, and the TCG. That makes it borderline impossible for the games to be delayed. If they're delayed, everything else has to be delayed.

I dunno what they could do with the TCG, but the anime seriously needs to have itself another filler arc like the Orange Islands at this point. This may be a very divisive opinion, but I don't think it will hurt Pokémon to make a filler season about as long as the Orange Islands while Game Freak and Nintendo get their shit together and work things out.
