It's baffling to me that they're not cashing in on social media and "look at me" elements. Remember treehouses? Animal Crossing's way of visiting other people? You could put so much shit in the game just for your tiny hideout and have social media drown in pictures. 5 events a year? Add some furniture. Bam, free coverage.

What exactly was the point of LetsGo? They were already making these games and clearly put a lot more effort into them. I still don't understand the LetsGo system either; you catch pokemon instantly but battle them as per tradition also?

It was a game intended to snare people who had only played GO before, but not make it entirely GO-like to make them buy normal pokemon games.

Probably, who knows?

That's nothing, you should see what some of the fan games are doing.

Like, take for example, Pokemon Rejuvenation. Story? Balls to the walls insane and is on the level of fanfiction, but the gameplay is where it's at. Still not done, but there are about... I wanna say 15 gym leaders in the game at this point, and there's a challenge mode for replays.

Oh, and the shinies don't suck. Snorlax looks like Totoro

Heck a lot of the shiny pokemon in that have actual effort in them.

Like, I know that this is is pretty impossible at this point in the official games, but hot damn, this is what Shiny pokemon should be like. And yes, they've done this FOR EVERY POKEMON known.
While these shiners are nice I prefer reborn's over these. Also why do both of the games have a Danganronpa reference? Rejuvenation with vivillion and reborn with Beware.

Honestly, the only reason why Gen 5 is so looked down upon by fans, is because of that feature of the pokedex...

But it honestly makes me roll my eyes that people don't give credit to Gen 5 for all it did for the series too:
-) Triple Battles and Rotation Battles
-) Wild Double Battles
-) Seasons
-) Constantly Animated Sprites
-) Branching off that, the sprites actually moved differently if they had a status effect
-) The Battle Music being more dynamic and actually played along with the status of the battle
-) TMs HAVE INFINITE USES
-) HM moves don't require the Badge to be used.
-) DIFFICULTY

I know there's more, but I will never stop defending Gen 5... As far as I'm concerned, it offered a lot more than X and Y did.
I recall that Gen 5 received much flack for some of the Pokemon designs like the Trubbish and Vanillite lines or derivative like the Roggenrola and Timburr lines. However, I think that the generation had some real winners. Zorua is one of my all time favorites to the point where I actually bred for a shiny through the Matsuda method (and actually got two!) Galvantula's another favorite of mine that I am very happy will be included in SHSW. Same for Haxorus and Hydreigon.

Well, both are on the same site where you can get the games, I believe Rejuvenation is a spiritual successor...

as for Monokuma... Maybe the creators just like Danganronpa? That's a series that manages to get plenty of people's attention. Puhuhuhuhu

As, for half the mechanics not working in gen 1, they were just starting up as a company, we kinda have to cut them some slack there.

Game freak released their first game, Quinty/Mendel Palace for the Famicom/Nes in 1989. Pokemon Red and Green were released 7 years after that. There were six other games released between those two, and Pokemon Red and Green themselves were in development since 1990.

Ah, I see. Thanks for clarifying that.

Kotaku (yeah yeah, I know it's cancer incarnate) just posted an article on Sword and Shield, it's not related to the cut Pokemon issue but it does give some insight on what's going through Masuda's and Ohmori's minds during development.

EDIT: And it seems Joe Merrick, Serebii's administrator, took to defending the game on RESETERA of all fucking places. That's a big uh-oh if you have to resort to going to that hive of scum and villainy to defend the games.

I mean honestly, he did the same on twitter. And frankly, while I'm not too familiar with RESETERA's operations, can we assume that he's been on there quite a few times since he's verified?

Again, I'm not too familiar since I don't really care for the site personally so I could be totally off base.

Although, reading this thread, I do love the feeding frenzy that going on there...

Edit:
That being said, any thoughts from any of the 3D modelers who may be lurking around here? Honestly, with that beak on Wingull, it kinda feels like the models might actually be different, and not just be a texture change like some people claim.

Considering that you need to give the site anything that can prove your identity I think it's safe to say it's him. The general thread on his site's forum is also a gold mine but I'm seeing people that aren't fine with eating Game Freak's latest semi-soft road apple.

What's ironic is that I was tipped off to Serebii's ResetEra presence on /vp/, apparently they think he's slinking off to the pedo stomping grounds due to getting shit on Twitter. Shame the thread was locked by the staff, I wanted to taste more salt...

One of my brother's biggest wishlist when it came to Pokémon for all these years was he wants the final game of the franchise to have all of the regions in it, the last hurrah and the perfect send-off. I remember telling him back then and numerous times since it was never going to happen, keep dreaming.

With all that's coming out about just how these games are pretty much held together by duct tape and staplers and they're constantly cutting corners, my brother's giant pipe dream will remain as such, and I just know he's going to keep deluding himself into holding on to that DOA dream.

Would a game even be able to hold all the regions? Like, all in full, and not just little snippets of them? How much data would that be? Especially if it was in 3d?

I wouldn't know the size of it, but like the other Nintendo Switch games are pretty big, and they manage to hold a lot of data just fine on a tiny SD card cartridge. I think in the right hands, they could do it, but Game Freak's too incompetent (and understaffed, I assume) to do it. The amount of Pokémon in the PokéDex for sure is the biggest drawback.

Well, now hold on there.

We're talking about 7 (8 if you count Galar) different generations. 9 if you wanna throw in Orre (but that's a pipe dream), each with their own unique structures, environments, maps, and even then, we don't know the full locations of where these regions are set in the world save for Kanto and Johto.

Not only would they have to translate ALL of the unique structures, like the more Japanese buildings from Johto, or the even the fantastic assets that were in Unova, we're already looking at a massive undertaking to make sure that the assets are properly adapted. They can't recycle those ones like they are with the pokemon (although, I still have reservations on that) - Not to mention they'd also have to take into account weather if they included Unova, since a lot of it's routes were affected by the weather and seasons.

Then there's the programming of the pokemon themselves - Since, if we were to take something like Breath of the Wild into account, and use it as a measuring stick - We'd have to consider how the pokemon would react in the wild.

Then there's the issue of traveling between the regions.

And not even touching on scripting for any events - Cause if there aren't really events in the world, what's the point of just traveling them? It'd get really boring having to fight about... 56+ gym leaders all in the same game without having to spice it up.

I think there's a lot more, but I think that kind of game would require a heck of a lot more thought and care into it. Not to mention the development cycle might be a nightmare for that.

Considering the 3DS carts go up to 8 gigs compared to the Switch's 32 gigs max, it may be doable especially with the fact that the 3DS games like USUM only took up to 3 gigs of space; it's entirely possible with that in mind.
Thing is, with how slow and lazy Game Freak seems to be in making these games these days (the Lillie model thing is something only the laziest of devs would do just to save time) they would likely need to triple the size of their studio and probably get a co-developer on board too. Doesn't help that such a game would be massive in scope. Thankfully for them, if done in the next gen hypothetically, the assets of Gens 6 through 8 can be used with a bit of tweaking, saving them time.

I'd absolutely love a game with all the regions in it, I know it's never going to happen but tbh, no matter how much I love them, they really didn't need to make this many pokemon. Colosseum, XD, Rangers, Mystery dungeons and other spin offs like that could've really kept the series going without adding more pokemon. It's too bad those ideas didn't come from Game Freak because I feel like had they gone that route they wouldn't be torturing themselves to make new regions full of original pokemon and theoretically wouldn't be at a whopping 8 regions and over 1000 pokemon (including forms and shit) to work with.

Well things just took a very interesting turn in the Sword and Shield debacle, while I was dredging through Twatter's #BringBackNationalDex hashtag I found a Reddit link that led to a post about someone contacting TPCi's support page to file a complaint about the changes (because that always works with these kinds of things).
Archive: http://archive.li/nFYhy
Tl;dr - Someone in the UK sent an email to TPCi to complain about Pokemon getting cut in Sword and Shield, TPCi tells them to email Nintendo UK's support page, Nintendo UK responded by apologizing for the craptastic Pokemon-related Treehouse news and said that they can't really do anything about it due to having no contacts with the development team (along with being mystified as to why TPCi would tell them to contact Nintendo) but encouraged them to complain on social media due to developers these days having SOME form of social media presence and them paying attention to feedback there.

I'm not too optimistic since this is Game Freak we're talking about here, but one can hope...

Well with proof now (I read this before proof was provided) this really shows that Nintendo and TPCi have noticed and I think they probably have talked to Game Freak about the feedback so far but got rebuffed. They are a third party studio so they don't technically need to listen to them.
It would make sense why the representative would tell them to take it to social media if that were the case.

Hmm... I dunno...

Look, I'm reading the thread, and looking at the screenshots, but it just seems a bit too good to be true. I'm aware that the mods have said "These are true" - But if that's the case, why wouldn't you post the video on youtube or twitter or something? I'm referring to a video that was made to show that the e-mail is in fact true.

I'm probably sounding paranoid, but after all the crap I've seen involving e-mails, private messages, and all that jazz, I don't really trust anyone saying "We saw these messages, and we can confirm". People lie, and people are willing to lie for the dumbest of reasons.

Sides, wouldn't be the first time people would go out of their way to say something is real just to promote an idea.

*shrugs*

I'm just being a bit skeptical.

Poor guy, at least he’s got Agumon for company.
