With the total number of Pokemon now over 1000, they probably had to do this to save ROM space. Still not an excuse to get rid of mega-evolutions, but whatever, the game is still enjoyable enough without them. I'm sure that most of the Pokemon being left out are the weak unpopular ones that no one ever uses or remembers. A seperate Switch app designed specifically for competitive battling that has all the stuff from previous generations would probably make up for it if anyone still cares

Honestly Game Freak fucked themselves over constantly adding more and more Pokémon until you have to either ditch the vast majority of Pokémon to make the game come out in time or make more than thousands of models, textures and animations for every single one.

Again, we've seen a smaller version of this reaction with the soft reboot of pokemon with BW.

Honestly, if each generation was it's own isolated roster, I wouldn't have minded that.

I still maintain that if pokemon had kept the 2d look, and maybe changed up the graphical styling of how they use the pixel art, then we wouldn't be having this problem.

I won't argue against that but 2D won't do it for critics and fans anymore, excepting a small amount of people.

I feel like it's just industry standard to go 3d at this point and pokemon just followed the curve. I feel like indie games make much better use of Sprite and Sprite games than most mainstream developers do.

You guys are yelling for the pixel art back but a lot of people would probably see it as an insult compared to breath of the wild regardless of if it was or not.

Honestly, it depends on how it's used. Besides, people are already doing a dumb comparison to pokemon and BotW.

I know, just woke up and couldn't think of an in depth comparison other than botw

My idea is that if they kept like the moveable sprites from BW2 (and updated them of course) but have a background like Octopath Traveler

As well as have all the previous features in the older games, that it would sell like hotcakes. Even as a Switch title.

What other countries could they do next? We've seen Japan, the US, England, France....
Australia.

The most controversial choice would be big bad Russia, and the region could be different from the rest in that it's entirely snowy and mountainous.

EDIT: A China-based region would be pretty cool as well. Lanterns everywhere and lots of dragons. It would probably conjure controversy in the way that Russia would too.

ICYMI The fire starters have been based on animals from the Chinese zodiac.

Nnnn. Not sure about. That style works for octopath but we're not sure if game freak can make it work the same way it did.

Yeah, but its something they'd only have to do once per console generation and also something that they'd theoretically be able to reuse in a dozen games (Sword & Shield, S2 & S2, Gen9a & Gen9b, G9-2a & G9-2b, etc.). They could also team up with one or more of the other companies developing Pokemon games for the Switch to divide responsibilities, benefiting everybody.

I dunno, most of this shit feel like a failure of management to properly coordinate and allocate development resources.

I mean for a normal game developer, yes, you're right, but Game Freak has been proven over and over by now to be inept.

With the virtual console re-releases of first two gen games, they should just go "fuck it" and release a "retro" game, with wobbly sprites drawn by drunk Sugimori and whatnot.

There's that one pokemon red online randomizer that has demake sprites up to gen 7 pokemon that really capture the jankiness of gen 1 sprites which i prefer to be honest. Though most do look exceptional.
It botches the roms (older emulators can't run them and freeze on first encounter), sadly(
But otherwise, that's what we probably need.

The people getting worked up over not being able to bring in old Pokemon are honestly pretty lolworthy. That being said, I'm not happy about it. I would be perfectly fine with not being able to bring certain old Pokemon into Sword/Shield. What I don't like is that once things are sent to Pokemon Home, then they can't go back - not to Bank, not to Go, not to Let's Go - which means that a good chunk of them will literally just be stuck there.

I'll most likely still get Shield whenever I finally get a Switch, but I'm probably not going to transfer my Living Pokedex out of Bank until they either have somewhere all of it could theoretically be moved to, or they signal that they're going to discontinue Bank or somehow alter it so it's only a "one-way" transfer, i.e. things can no longer be moved into a Gen VI/VII game.

I do wonder if Home is going to make the bank obsolete. I have been paying for bank for a few years now and i assume with home they won't need it any more but then does that mean we'll have to pay for home? I feel like, since this game will be $60, and then having to pay more for home and bringing pokemon even further up would make people angrier, paying money but not being able to access them, but they know from bank they can milk that money out of people. I'd say I don't pay for my pokemon to sit in a box and do nothing but a bunch of my pokemon, including my entire vivillon collection has been in the bank since like 2014, and I don't use like 99% of my living dex.

My only suggestion would be to get a Action replay powersaves. It backs up the game every time you use it so you can literally bring all your pokemon to home and reset the save and they'll all be there again.... though i'd probably try with things you don't care for first just in case.

Honestly, if I wasn't this jaded towards Game Freak's incompetence since Gen 6, I'd be really mad on the internet over this from the very beginning, every Pokémon is someone's favourite, so people have a reason to be mad about this. Right now, though? People are absolutely livid because the rose-tinted glasses finally shattered, and all of Game Freak's failures were shoved right into their faces almost immediately. This has been going on for 6 years now, and people are finally becoming aware of it all.

Me, though? I'm just watching and occasionally fanning the fires, because I'm loving watching this. It feels like justice is finally being served.

I'm not even mad, disappointed yes but not mad. I've thought Game Freak as incompetent since Gen 6 as well. The switch to 3D did not help but worse is the fact that apparently, every Gen now has to have some gimmick and that really irks me. I get adding battle mehcanics to spruce up the old system but the fact they had Mega's then tossed it out for Z-Moves only to then toss that out for Dynamaxing is stupid and shows the lack of focus and direction they have.

I would have kept Mega's and fleshed them out, for example: since they do harm to the Pokemon in the process and put them through incredible strain, make it so it only last until they're half health and they'll slowly lose health each turn. Every use of Mega Evolution will lower Friendship by a good amount and using potions while a Pokemon is Mega Evolved will not increase it back.

The one pokemon I'll be very disappointed without is Reuniclus, that's the one that got me hyped for black and white and I drew that the day it was revealed. I don't think I have much to worry about considering it's been in X, Y, Sun, Moon but it hasn't been confirmed yet.

Some of the pokemon I never want to see gone are Chinchou and Lanturn (confirmed) Phanpy and Donphan, Wooper and Quagsire (confirmed), Houndour and Houndoom, Sneasel and Weavile (confirmed, thank fuck), Slakoth (I literally don't care about the others), Mudkip, Mawile, Spoink and Grumpig, Spheal Sealeo and Walrein, Piplup, Shinx Luxio and Luxray, Cranidos and Rampardos, Buizel and Floatzel, Woobat and Swoobat, Cottonee and Whimsicott, Petilil and Liligant, Sandile Krokorok and Krookodile, Litwick Lampent and Chandelure, Larvesta and Volcarona, Skiddo and Gogoat, Furfrou, helioptile and Heliolisk, Tyrynt and Tyrantrum, Amaura and Aurorus, mimikyu (confirmed).

Like Bidoof is fucked, Luvdisk and Alomomola are too.

I know a lot of people will disagree with me but this is how I've felt for quite some time, and I'll admit now that the rose-tinted glasses have come off all I can really say is: "I told you so!" and sit back and watch the fallout. Sure, 7th Gen had some nice 'mons and it's nice to finally be able to do a legit hunt for shiny Xerneas/Yveltal, but it's a shame it's taken people this long to walk out of the echo chamber.

Also I might be late on this but hooollllly shit are the new comments on the Pokemon Direct regarding GF's fuckups entertaining to read.
