Alola forms were a mistake
Alolan Garfield is amazing. Half of the reason I love it was the rage in generated for not being a sleek panther-like creature like everyone was hoping, the other is I like it when Pokemon have legitimately dumb looking designs. And best of all it is significantly stronger than the original so you have a much higher chance of seeing it being used online showing its stupid fat face everywhere. Not everything has to be elegant/cute/badass/ect, It's nice to have dopey/silly designs mixed in even if they are new forms of Pokemon that originally weren't that at all.

You say that but outside Ninetails all the other Aloha forms were pretty shit in competitive. Even with fur coat and parting shot.

Regardless of competitive viability I enjoy regional variants. They add an extra splash of flavor to the region.

Megas, on the other hand...

Alolan Marowak is used quite a bit as well like Alolan Ninetales. Both are OU in the Smogon metagame.

And I didn't mean that Alolan Persian was actually good, I just meant that it is considered an improvement over its original version from a competitive standpoint and thus has a higher chance of being seen online than the Kantonian version, similar to Alolan Muk and Alolan Exeggutor, whom are also considered overall stronger than the originals even though neither are seen in higher competitive formats much. The move tutors of USUM only push this further for those three, as all of them got pretty much all of the moves that the originals had and then some, killing what little advantages the original versions had from a movepool standpoint.

I agree with everything outside Exeggutor. A grass/dragon is useless unless it is fast AF. Then again the original would still be 4x weak against bug so I guess that is fair?

It's considered much better mostly for getting a significant movepool increase, with moves like Flamethrower and Earthquake for coverage without losing anything normal Exeggutor can get in return other than Stomp. Both have x4 Weaknesses, but Alolan Exeggutor has fewer weaknesses overall, and notably loses its weaknesses to Ghost, Dark and Fire in return for weaknesses to Fairy and Dragon, the latter of which is rarely seen on anything that isn't Dragon type themselves.

I know mass amounts or Pokemon fans that will only use "cute" Pokemon.

I grew fond of Litten's final evo and I hold Pangoro as one of my fave Pokemon.

I don't wanna wait for Mega Stones to be distributed again. I only say this because I alternate between Gengar and Gardevoir.
They clearly shelved Mega's for the time being because of how awesome and cinematic they tried to make the Z-Moves look.

When they make a proper return, they will probably have a lot of new forms.

They really got to come up with new names for it though. Its really childish and uncreative to call things that are supposed to bring such great power "Pokemon name"-Ite

Yeah, tbh I think Z-Moves are super disappointing and a very poor substitute for Mega Evolution. What makes Mega Evolution great is that it offers a stat boost/ability change/type change that gives previously neglected Pokemon a chance to shine. Plus, Mega Evolution lasts the entire battle while Z-Moves can only be used once.

Its just too bad Mega Evolution isn't permanent. And too bad Gamefreak is incorrectly using the term "Mega" for this concept.

I'm sorry dude, but Alolan Persian is incredibly lackluster.

I was even blind sighted when I was training my (equally stupidly designed) Meowth when I found out the freaking thing evolves through Friendship. So I wasted my night thinking it was evolving by level, but it didn't. Instead I could have given it a Soothe Bell and using the Poke-Emotion Gimmick thing where you clean them and feed them Poke Beans.

There are also too many Alolan Dark types. Alolan Muk is awesome and has a great typing and beautiful design, with Menacing teeth. Alolan Raticate is too annoying in encounters, but I'll take that over stupid Alolan Persian.

And I really got no fucking clue where you get this "Garfield" thing from. I don't see it one bit.

Garfield has a stupid face

So does Alolan Persian I guess?

You're right, it resembles Heathcliff more

Now I do love Garfield, but Heathcliff was real badass. He was also much more aggressive than Garfield was. They're both fat and lazy but Heathcliff was always beating dogs up and was the leader of the cat gang (when they weren't led by the "Other Heathcliff" Riff-Raff, who was basically another Heathcliff). This description fits a whole lot better with Persian becoming a Dark type.

Heathcliff was always the more subtle and intellectually challenging Sunday comic strip.:powerlevel:

For those that care about Competitive, some pre-set Ditto encounters have some nice stuff for breeding. There are semi-scripted to have an IV of 30 in various stats(for breeding the right Hidden Power type), IV of 0 in Attack(for minimizing Foul Play and confusion damage on pokemon that don't use any physical moves), and an IV of 0 in Speed(for Trick Room and for Pokemon that intentionally want to go last for various reasons)

What? They actually buffed Ditto Breeding?

I mean, maybe this is old news anyway, but at least since the 3rd Gen, I heard rumors that Ditto breeding made it not as easy to breed for perfect IV's.

Here's a fun little fact. The original pitch Game Freak gave to Nintendo was a game called Capsule Monsters. Rather than there being different versions, trades would mostly be used to get a hold of rarer-than-normal critters called Illusory Monsters. They would be much stronger than the average capsule monster(similar to legendary Pokemon in the final version), but they would be really hard to find and you'd be lucky to find more than one on your save file and they all would be permanently missable if you mess up. They gave an example in the pitch of a green dragon that could only be found via grinding encounters for many hours on the lowest floor of a large dungeon.

Now to get to more recent times, Pokemon like Mew and Celebi were considered Legendary Pokemon by the official media, making no distinction between them and the ones actually obtainable on-cart. Gen V came up with the term Mythical to describe event-only Pokemon, and is still used to this day.

In Japan however, Legendaries and Mythicals have ALWAYS been officially recognized as different groups. The official term that has been used over there since Gen 1 is Illusory Pokemon, named after the previously mentioned Capsule Monsters mechanic.

There are small changes in Ultra (when battling ppl) that people that played VANILLA will appreciate. It really does feel like this is the one we should have gotten first. :/
