The only things worth a look at in the $20 ROMs are whether Altering Cave gets a fix and if Entei and Raikou roaring at you doesn't wipe them from existence.

bro you cant actually believe that they are going to do anything other than drop an emulator with an unmodified rom.

I doubt they'll do anything notable like they did with Crystal (:_( I really wanna be hopeful, but it's hard given GF's track record nowadays.
  • They're not going to fix Altering Cave
  • They're not going to fix the Roamer IVs bug or the Roamer Roar glitch
  • They're not going to fix the physical/special split
  • They're not going to fix it so you can get Crobat or Blissey early before beating the game
  • They're not going to fix it so you can have your Eevee evolve into Espeon or Umbreon
  • They're not going to add in the event tickets for Navel Rock or Birth Island

Sometimes a studio will have a further patched version of the game that's never released because it's just not worth the cost to get it out the door. I'll tell you now, do not get your hopes up for the roar glitch being fixed unless GF had this theoretical patched version of the ROM already compiled and ready to go. I believe the glitch only occurs in the non-Japanese releases so it's probably not even on their radar.

Altering Cave isn't going to be implemented either, all of the species that were supposed to appear there were shoved into Emerald's Safari iirc.

>via local wireless
>LOCAL

They aren't even tied to NSO and they couldn't be fucked to add an online function.

Realistically how many fucking people are going to play each other locally? This isn't the GBC/GBA days of link cables and wireless peripherals, Johnny from east coast is going to want to fight Ben from west coast from the comfort of his home online.

You wouldn't believe that there are people saying you should go out and make friends irl (in 2026) all for the purpose of trading Pokémon — LOCALLY, for God's sake — in a 20+ year old game.

Answer: None
Even back in the glory days when GBA was the hot shit, people who were online had expressed their disappointment that not a single soul wanted to go for an IRL meetup to use link cables
That shit was long dead. Hence why the wifi introduced in gen 4 was celebrated.
Me personally the only time I had experienced a link trade in FRLG was back in 2018 when myself traded with me after I bought that nerd’s collection for cheap after he graduated the medical school.

Just watch: most people who bought or going to buy this shit will drop it in few weeks because their tiktok ridden brains will not stand it. Also expect more tacit admission that buying multiple copies to own the haters in this fucked up economy was a big mistake.
You will have the nostalgiafags eating this shit up
You will have those who mastered the soy magic to RNG manipulate these games to the fullest
But are they living in close proximity to each other so they can play locally ???? I highly doubt it

By the time FR/LG came out, I was using a red GBA SP and I only had ONE link battle because no one else around me was playing the Gen3 games. And I won that battle too by using a Charizard with Rock Slide that pretty much wrecked the other person's team.

The most use I ever got of link battles was back in the Gen1 days where you were allowed to have more than one of the same Pokemon. I remember having an entire team of Poliwhirls with different movesets just because I wanted to. Once the Species clause came about, that pretty much killed some of the fun because there are a lot of pokemon that suffer from 4 moveslot syndrome. I get it because legendaries are a thing, but still.

So if I’m late with this, I’m sorry.

There was a recent Marilee keychain announced, and people noticed something…let’s say, interesting, about the design.

Do you see it? And if you did, what does that say about you?
I had to squint to see it.
I think boomers were right and people really do need jesus.

Imo, the reason people weren't as harsh on the 3DS ports of RBY and GSC as they are on the switch's FRLG is that the franchise was in a better state, so they were more willingly to give game freak the benefit of the doubt. At the very least, pokemon bank support was guaranteed on day one, and there was the added goodie of the event celebi. Now? Pokemon home support for FRLG and the GameCube games aren't even guaranteed, and even if it was it would take months. Even BDSP took several months for home support. Not to mention that more likely than not, none of the events like the mew island will be added. FRLG "only" being $20 is still a surprise for me, but all that extra baggage that the 3DS ports simply didn't have is still troubling to say the least.
I have been thinking about this as well, yes they were selling easily emulable roms for 10 bucks but they did some things to make it enticing: Bank compatibility, mew ( remember, at the time legit mews were mostly from limited in-person distributions) and Celebi, this one was big since its in-game event had never been accesible in the west.

Now there is another aspect I believe people aren't discussing, yet am convinced it is around people's minds, and thats being unable to transfer pokemon that aren't present in a game's pokedex. What good is to have bank compatibility if I can't bring a Tauros caught in firered to legends ZA?
Even if you bring something thats allowed to be transfered (and thus able to catch in the games you are transfering to) the moves get wiped so you can't even take advantage of old move tutors.
So what is the point of transfering pokemon via home at this point? Ribbons? They shot themselves in the foot with dexit.

Anyways, I believe that they MAY distribute some of the FRLG mystery gifts but it will be dripfeed to drive sales/hype/FOMO "buy the 20 dollars rerelease now or you will miss out on mew"

We kind of did. There’s a First Partner Collection box releasing on March 20th and it’ll contain a 3-card pack which pulls from a 9-card pool of Illustration Rare-style promos featuring the Gen 1, 4, and 7 starters (with many people assuming that you get one Gen’s set of starters per pack).
Yeah, there's that product, which I like personally, save for the fact it probably won't be available due to scalping like the pokemon day box. I was talking more about the set scheduled for summer, which has people upset because they're afraid of there being reprints of highly valuable cards like the shining, star and crystal pokemon. It's mostly investorfags seething, but the community is full of dumb people.

yeah back in like 2005 (I was a child) I did trade with a homie whom also had pokemon FR (i was the only person i knew to have LG) and also emerald using the wireless adapter other than that it was just me connecting to Pokemon Colosseum. good times.

The most I got out of my link adapters was fights against cousins and trading with my siblings for evolution purposes.

Had a great time trolling with a Gengar lead.

Lol, asleep first turn.
Lol, you woke up, but you hit yourself in confusion.
Lol, I just did the same thing 6 times and swept your team. Even I'm surprised by my luck.

I've come across an interesting interview with the president of The Pokémon Company done by the BBC.
1771928459609.png

The audience for the interview are normie business investors, but there's some interesting things said here:
  • "We'll go bust when Pokémon is no longer popular".
  • "The first time I saw it [Pokémon Red and Green] I thought, wow this is going to sell a lot of copies. I thought of this because the players needed two Game Boy consoles and a link cable to exchange the monsters with their friends. So I thought, it's going to make a lot of money!".
  • He considers $11 billion dollars in merchandise as not that much compared to other revenue sources. "We look at the licensing business as quite small".
  • The interviewer asks about fake and counterfeit products, giving their recent litigation against Palworld as an example.
  • The interviewer asks if they want to do anything about the 2nd hand trading card market "It's a business out of our control". "When the second hand market becomes more valuable because of rarity, that is problematic because our business is affected" "It's not our place to say that they are not".
  • They do not want the brand to be seen as Japanese "We don't position Pokémon as being made in Japan and we do not want Pokémon labelled as that".
  • "Pokémon can probably continue into it's 50th or 100th anniversary, but if we become complacent and go with the flow, that's when Pokémon will go down hill".

The interview is a year old, posted on their website February 2025.

Is this game compatible with Pokemon Bank? If not, I plant my flag firmly down on the “Pokemon Company are greedy bastards for not releasing this on NSO instead” side. Even then, $20 is asking a lot for no improvements or new features.
