Willing to bet real money that data miners discover that the Fire Red and Leaf Green ports are just being run on RetroArch or some shit lmfao
Would not surprise me at all considering the recently released rayman collection pulled this crap.

Game Companies: "Don't use piracy and emulators to play our old games, we will offer them to you instead!"
Also Game Companies: "lololololol we just stuck a rom in an already-made emulator, deal with it"

They mention on their site that they planned to put the full dataset somewhere, but I couldn't find it.
I don't think they followed through with it, they said they'd post the raw data on their forum but I searched it and found nothing. Both the substack and the forum have a garbage layout so maybe I missed it.

Game Freak's other new game actually looks pretty, so maybe that experience will get folded back into Pokemon and we'll get something competent for once.
I get that it looks better than Pokemon, but it also looks like literally every Asian-style UE5 game ever.

Maybe we'll actually get a decently running game for once.
I wouldn't get my hopes up given that the trailer shows some FPS stutter. I fear what the full game is like if there's framerate drops on the trailer.

I never said it was special. I'm beyond hoping for something uniquely charming from pokemon. The most I can hope for is quality slop.

Which is one of many reasons that I'll likely never buy another main line Pokemon game again.

Get those rainbows ready, because I have a better idea:
>a collection of all mainline GB, GBC, and GBA games
>colorization and Super Game Boy options for GB
>online battling and trading
>Home compatibility
>compatibility with the N64 and upcoming GameCube games on NSO
>ability to trade between all included games without a paid subscription service
>basic emulator functions like shaders and multi-speed fast forward (I’ll forgive not having save states or rewind since they’re especially sensitive about trade-related abuse)
>all events included

I could add more, but just that would easily be worth $40.
That would be a sensible and consumer friendly decision, so naturally Nintendo won't even consider it for a second.
But they can release one single ROM of 20 bucks and people will be falling head over heels to pay this kind of extortion money, so from a business perspective you really can't blame them.

Charging separately for each language is such an insanely greedy move even by Pokemon/Nintendo standards I'm actually stunned. I know Pokemon fans have a reputation for having absolutely zero standards, but Jesus Christ.

Are they at least adding any sort of online functionality?

You can call Nintendo greedy/scummy/selfish/whatever other insult you want, but you can’t say they don’t know how to squeeze as much money out of their consumer base for as little effort as possible.

There are conflicting reports on Home compatibility, but online battling and trading are out. Small indie company can’t afford servers, please understand.

...I don't understand. Why the fuck would anyone buy a game in a language beside the one they primarily speak?

How does this translate into extra sales? Maybe like a dozen, not worth the bad press.

Not even servers. I'd make a solid bet that the games are a rom file (likely lifted from emuparadise (Rest in Peace).) running on whatever GBA emulator they used for NSO. Just stripped of all useful features (because GameFreak really hates savestate scumming) including the ability to play online, which is a function on NSO GBA which just runs everything locally rather than through servers.

Fascinating that all competitors never really were capable of even remotely trying to emulate Nintendo in its cultivation of Stockholm syndrome. Which of course means any sensible purchase decision is meaningless because you can't punish Nintendo for a bad product. Every couple of years, I look into Nintendo's ecosystem in the hope that things have changed, but I am always disappointed.

Maybe greedy wasn't the right word for that particular bit, but it's certainly lazy as hell. AFIAK even the other NSO classic games include different languages, so why not this? The ROM is like 5 MB so it's not like space is an issue.

Only thing that would make sense is for marketing.

They probably want to track what kind of people play their games (e.g. which demographic that speak what language in what specific country of origin). Separating them would make counting the numbers easier, and then they would use the numbers for.... something in the future I guess.

Offering something (literally anything) new to get people to re-buy this ancient product? Showing even the tiniest bit of respect your fans? Nah, fuck that.
They should just offer the events of gen 3 for $20 per event for only that current save to really milk these consoomers dry

First half of my Ass Heroes orders came in. Pulls were kinda way too good because out of like 25 packs I got these but at the same time only got 4 EX mons and a couple reverse holo energies.
I like the Mimickpikachu and the Canari seems to be priced pretty high but mine is super bottom heavy.

Unrelated, but with all this sinnoh talk I'd just like to say fuck Dusknoir. Dusclops was rad as fuck but now either you have to run eviolite or make it look like shit.
For what it's worth, eviolite clops is significantly more useful than tummy mouth so you're not losing much especially if you're not playing competitive where every mon and their mother has Knock Off.

Speed from glacial to molasses and going from bad to mediocre attack is so not worth it compared to 1.5x boost on those sweet 130s, especially on a mon with Night Shade and Pain Split.

I agree with everything this guy says. He discusses why Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green are being released as standalone paid titles on the Nintendo Switch, rather than being included with a Switch Online subscription. It's because Nintendo doesn't want easier ways like save states or including event passes to get competitive Pokemon for Tournaments, which have a money prize.

Also he's a newer channel. Show him some love.

Right, I don't want to sound like I'm dickriding Nintendo here but I just want to say the following.

The reason Mega Man and whatnot get collections and Pokemon games don't isn't because Capcom are the good guys and Nintendo are the bad guys, it's because not a single fucking person would buy an emulated MegaMan 2 for $19.99. If they could get away with it, they would but Mega Man doesn't have the popularity of Pokemon in the slightest.

If Pokemon was a niche little franchise then sure, we'd get Pokemon collections all the time because it wouldn't be considered profitable to release games seperately. Pokemon is a legit top 5 video game franchise, they're not getting stuck in value packs when the average Nintendo fan will buy BOTH games that come out despite there being like 2 different pokemon between them.

It's also why graphically lackluster games like Legends Z-A sell like hotcakes: The Pokemon formula is just satisfying.

I hate this series so much and the fans are to blame. fucking slaves.
If you buy LGFR on switch i will pray for your soul.

okay enough rage posting, are there any heart gold/soul silver romhacks worth playing?
I'm going over seas soon and I need games to play on my phone.

So to keep the playerbase from quitting Pokemon Go (and to justify getting these shitty new Megas), Niantic gave the new ZA Megas their own exclusive raids that are harder than normal raids. Being the greedy fucks they are, you have to have some kind of new item with your raid passes just to join a fight. Before you join, you need to have a Mega for these new fights because the new gimmick is your Mega has to break the shields before the Mega boss kills everybody when enraged (Everybody in the raid has to participate in breaking the shields). So what you get after beating these bosses? Jack fucking shit. That's right, you get the same rewards you get from normal raids. You need at least 10 people for these new raids (I failed one with 6, but beat one with 10).

I think with Mega Zygarde and Mega Darkrai, these raids could work out, but for something like Mega Starmie or Mega Malamar? No. Victreebel and Malamar should have been regular Mega raids because as of now these two aren't worth the trouble if you already have better Grass and Dark/Psychic Pokemon (Mega Malamar is bad at the moment). Don't bother doing these raids remotely during the Kalos tour unless you bought the Taiwan and Commiefornia tickets. You won't get Mega stones from remotes until next weekend. Adding a new item you'll probably have to buy on top of raid passes is utter bullshit.

Part of that is due to the craptastic pull rates for regular Pokémon ex cards, pack points being divided by set, and the pack points prices for anything more than a holo rare being obscenely high.

If they addressed those in a positive manner then those numbers would go probably go back up to around May 2025's levels.
There were also other controversies like AI art being used for some of the cards.

The community hasn't had as much time with the Pokémon from newer generations as they've had with the old ones. It takes time for a community consensus on favorites to emerge, or for a Pokémon's favorable reputation to develop. And newer Pokémon are not just behind the older Pokémon on a timeline of establishing themselves—they're having to establish themselves and stand out alongside older Pokémon that have already established themselves in a lot of fans' hearts and minds.
So it seems to me that newer Pokémon will, in general, always seem lesser when compared to the Pokémon that came before—and fans will wonder, "what's wrong with the new designs? They must all suck." And they could suck, that's definitely a possibility. There are a few designs that I think are terrible. But I think that Pokémon fans are too quick to declare new designs as "bad" when, sometimes, you just need to give it a bit.
Even in my own time playing, I've found that my opinions on newly-introduced Pokémon has almost always gotten better over time. There are tons of designs from Gen 5, for example, that I thought at the time looked like dogshit, unserious, retarded, not fitting with the established style of the series, an insult, ruining everything, franchise is doomed, etc. And now I actually like a lot of them.
While this is mostly true for a lot of players, there are Pokemon that will just click with almost everybody like Lucariom, Greninja, Gardevoir, etc. I could be wrong, but gen 9 didn't have as many despite Tinkaton, Paradox Pokemon, etc.

Greninja was insanely popular from the moment it was revealed. You've also got Sylveon (even without the tranny bullshit which barely existed in 2013), Mimikyu, Corviknight, Snom and Tinkaton. The only generation that doesn't have a definitive fan favorite is 5, but many fully-evolved Unova mons are fondly remembered like Excadrill, Golurk, Scolipede, Chandelure, Haxorus, Hydreigon and Volcarona.

Speaking of favorites, I never posted the final results of the Johto Times' favorite Pokemon poll. Here they are:
View attachment 8582147
I wasn't expecting Sylveon to rank so high above Eevee and I didn't realize Absol was this popular, but besides that these are fairly obvious picks.
Eevee and its forms will always be popular, and in Go they're useful for raids when you're starting out. Absol was popular since RSE (guess why), and ZA might have helped.
