yeah, ange no work anymore = life no work anymore. also, apparently exposure to ange is also what made him so tall! i had been wondering how his mother survived childbirth.
I just assumed he continued growing with the extra 2.9k years added to his life. Normal baby, normal kid, normal adult, but then exposed to ange energy, and suddenly he's getting Long.
It's a flying Sauropod with bananas growing from its neck. So you can have a snack while flying. That's awesome.

Wish its stats were higher though.
Okay, mega or 2nd evolution?

Okay, mega or 2nd evolution?
He's already fully developed conceptually so I can't imagine what a second evolution would even be.

But they'd absolutely fuck up a mega evolution so I don't want that either, but if it has to be that maybe let him become Grass/Dragon?

Just give him better stats please. He's a Jungle sauropod cryptid, his HP and defenses should be way higher.

...holy shit he's mokele mbembe. I never put that together. I had a whole cryptozoology phase as a kid, and I love tropius, and I never put that together.

Now I want a regional that's more plesiosaur/elasmosaur, with tynamo for fruit...like remoraid with mantine.

Tropius is a prime candidate for a straight up stat buff like Clefable and Dugtrio got, look at these absolute shitmon stats: bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net_wiki_Tropius_(Pok%C3%A9mon).png
Compare this to Gen 5's Durant:
bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net_wiki_Durant_(Pok%C3%A9mon).png
Gen 3 dinosaur cryptid gets mogged in BST and stat distribution by Gen 5 hard ant.

Gen 3 GameFreak was out of their mind with most of these single-stage mons with godawful stats. Sure there's worse examples like Chimecho, but that's a pretty low bar and Chimecho and Absol got way more love.
But if we want to get a bit more creative, maybe Tropius could have a special item like Marowak's Bone Club: a berry only Tropius can use which has some crazy effect like a 25% healing and a buff to defenses, refreshed with Harvest. Call it Golden Banana.
Honestly, with how bad Tropius's stats are it could probably stand to have a buff and this item and still barely keep up with modern power crept beasts, especially with Ice Spinner being handed out like candy.

Now I need to find a Meganium fan
I mean, I like Meganium - it’s a literal Grass Dinosaur, what’s not to like - and even ignoring it’s stats and movepool, it’s still my third favourite of the Johto Starter Evo’s because Feraligator and Typhlosion both just win on Cool points alone.

The entire Chikorita line has “if only you weren’t a starter” energy.

I like Meganium
I think the chikorita line is adorable, but they're tough to use in their own region, and IMO meganium doesn't do the grass type support role as well as venusaur.
I've tried doing playthroughs with chik in HGSS, but I always tap out around goldenrod.

Feraligatr is the only final evo Johto starter that I think looks better than its middle stage. I unironically prefer Bayleef and Quilava over Meganium and Typhlosion.

They're not the only ones, I have a soft spot for a lot of middle starter evos: the Kanto trio, Grovyle (not even a PMD thing, I just prefer its design to Sceptile's), Dewott, Frogadier, Braixen, Torracat and Floragato.

Huh, they look a little better as a 2d design. Not great, tho.

Both Meganium and Feraligatr's megas strike me as just too similar to their base forms. Even a change in posing could really improve both, we saw it in obvious form with quadruped Gatr earlier but even Mega Meganium here could take a more squat artillery-like posture to emphasize that it's supposed to be a dedicated Solarbeam cannon- right now it's just Meganium with more flowers, swirly antennae, and sleeves on its legs.

Charizard and Mewtwo got two megas that tried to do something different from each other.

Absol and Lucario got a recolor of their previous mega with more tentacle-like growths.
Legends ZA is probably the first pokemon game where I genuinely dislike a lot of the designs. I never felt this way towards any other game or generation, not even SV. First they ruined the honestly pretty good record of being one of the few game franchises with well-designed tanned/colored characters, and now this. I understand that a lot of the mega's in gen 6 were kinda lazy as well, with many of them just being "og pokemon but bigger body parts" but I just feel like XY and ORAS megas had a overall higher quality to them, this could just be nostalgia talking but still. Maybe this was artist block since there's so many fanmade mega designs out there?

To expand on my own shit:
Regional based on the loch ness monster. Yes, I know, lapras exists, but let me cook.
See, loch ness is home to a shitload of eels, and tynamo is an eel pokemon (I know it's technically lamprey but shush). So, a lake monster tropius, supplying the lake with eels, and also eating the eels works out.

and now I'm more disappointed in that Canada region peetering out, because Canada has its own lake monster (ogopogo), and I want more long-neck dinosaur pokemon

That's the theme I'm noticing with a lot of these new Megas... "lol just have things come out of their bodies and/or make them grow extremely big!"

Fuck creativity and effort, I guess
I'm 99% sure that Pokemon from gen 9 and ZA were designed as 3D models. Making and editing 3D models isn't as easy as doing the same for sprites or illustrations, so you get blatantly copy-pasted Pokemon (Pawmot, Dudunsparce, Maushold, Toedscruel) or forms that barely change aside from growing tentacles or changing colors. This would also explain why we've been getting the 3D renders before the official Sugimori artwork, if we even get the artwork at all.

I think 3D can be done well, but these new models just aren't good, they look overly smooth and round, and the plastic-like sheen on their textures makes them look like happy meal toys. It's as if they're slapping basic shapes together in Maya or Blender or whatever in-house program they use and drawing cartoon eyes over the result.

The simple shapes might also just be the easiest for rigging. Because sure, new pokemon are smooth and they're missing the finer details of older pokes, but that lack would make rigging easier, because there's less to weight paint, less bones to assign, etc.

I only know shit from Blender, so if I'm wrong then fuck me, but I'd love to see the models fully rigged, so we could get an idea about how much work really went in.

Fellas, is it autism if I bought a second 3DS to mod because I'm too paranoid about modding the one that I already have?
