What is this? Looks interesting, certainly has more thought put into it than anything Gamefreak wrote for 30 years now.

I call bullshit on the Pokemon transfer thing. It's clear that this universe has very advanced teleporting technology, they are left all over the place casually and are regularly used in both villain bases and cities. It would be trivial to teleport a Pokeball away, transferring it over the internet is another thing but I always thought this was more of a tagging procedure, to let the user keep tabs who is in or out of the party, while the actual Pokemon get teleported somewhere safe to a government standardized safehouse or facility of some kind. When someone wants to withdraw a Pokemon, they do so, again like you would with a bank, maybe they are stored somewhere on-site within Pokemon Centers. Still more plausible than actually transferring them like data over wire, 0s and 1s.

Interesting tidbit about failed Pokemon trainers, that would explain why there is just an army of goons at the ready in every region and does more to justify existence of Team Rocket than the games ever did.

I read everything you posted and I genuinely can't see who gives a shit about this DLC. None of it is interesting, you're just paying $30(lol) to humiliate your favorite Pokemon with an awful Mega while some cringy story(probably cut content) unfolds for a few hours. I've seen postgames more interesting than this and they came free with the games.
The pokemon novel written by Takeshi Shudo has these appendix after the volumes that explores some bits of lore in the pokemon anime.

In chapter 4 they attack the Viridian pokecenter and they sent their pokeballs to pewter city poke center and if I remember correctly it was by an underground tunnel.

Reading this novel made me ponder some stuff like: how much does a PokeBall weights? If it is empty or with some pokemon inside, is it heavier? What is the material made of? If you break a pokeball with a pokemon inside, does it die? Is it a mini portal to another place where the pokemon is located?

The games never glance much on these aspects, yeah you have the apricorns but they never gave a full explanation on all these aspects. Reading the novel also gave me some ideas for lore in a romhack game (you know those pokecenters with a shop inside? What if the shop was paying for treatment of the people there and using the pokecenter to sell items for the people)

The story itself is very bland but whenever Shudo goes in details of the world itself, it feels so cool and alien at the same time. There was a bit that Delia for the first time was late opening her restaurant but everyone in Pallet town was alright because they knew that she was suffering because of Ash leaving.

It feels so humane and at the same time very weird.

Chapter 5 stuff:

"Oh hey. Just a Caterpie. A cute little bug Pokémon.”
Misty shook her head while trembling.
“Even if it's a Pokémon, bugs are gross. Bugs bug me. I hate bugs. Do something about it. You're a boy after all.”"

They keep referencing real animals, man I wish we could go back and introduce real animals to the pokemon world just like back then. It would give the world so much more information about their habitat and eating preferences.

"Wild cat and mouse Pokémon including Pikachu are mostly nocturnal. Conditions for finding food are more favourable at night. Cats and mice that run around fields and mountains in broad daylight are mostly restricted to fiction like anime, films and TV.
Typically, cats and mice sleep in the day and move about at night. By the way, humans are creatures that do things during daylight. As such, Pokémon that are kept by humans naturally adjust to being awake during the day.
You'll notice this with Pokémon that live in the zoo, but Pokémon who have adjusted to daylight hours sleep shrewdly at night. This is because within the habitat of their cage or a Poké Ball, they can rest without having to fear being attacked by predators. However, for those Pokémon who aren't in a Poké Ball, the night is naturally a dangerous time.
After all, the night is their active period.
Pikachu are a Pokémon that is nocturnal by instinct. As such, the night brought anxiety. As long as he stayed out of the Poké Ball, Pikachu had trouble sleeping at night. On the fairly safe grounds of Professor Oak's laboratory, he'd slept in the day. But since travelling out on this adventure, he'd had no time to sleep. While he was being treated at the Pokémon Center he had been put under with anaesthesia, but that was a sleep to relieve his pain... Not a restful sleep. Refusing to enter his Poké Ball at night... was actually pretty tough.
However, instinct is instinct... and when night fell Pikachu's senses sharpened, the moment he felt an unusual presence his body began moving."

"Starter Pokémon given to aspiring Pokémon trainers are typically kept separate from other people and Pokémon as much as possible to avoid any major influences to make it easier for them to become used to their brand new owners."

"Then it happened.
Plop... Something fell on Ash's head.
“Huh?”
“Eeew, it's poop... Stay away from me.”
Misty raised a scream.
It was bird Pokémon poop.
Above the trees was a bird Pokémon with a fairly relieved expression on its face.
“Uuugh. At the worst possible moment... What the hell is that thing!?”
Ash pointed the Pokédex at the bird Pokémon.
“The bird Pokémon, Pidgeotto... The evolved form of the tiny bird Pokémon Pidgey... It is much more aggressive than Pidgey, but not as violent as Spearow, they are highly recommended Pokémon for beginners... It is typically around one meter in size... However their size may vary...”
“One meter, huh.”"

I don't remember pokemon scat on the anime. Do they ever mention to shit?

"Head of the Shinkar Darwin Theory of Evolution Supportive Committee
Professor Mendel Wallace

Note #1) The Theory of Evolution Supportive Committee is a group of scholars who believe in Darwin's theory of evolution.

According to Darwin's theory of evolution, Pokémon are creatures that should not exist.
However, as Pokémon do exist, this poses a problem to scholars who believe in Darwin's evolutionary theory.
Various theories denying the existence of Pokémon have been brought up, but are largely ignored and considered insane ramblings among modern society.
When things are shown to exist they are widely accepted as fact, but in the world of scholars, this isn't always the case. There are certain extremists among Darwinists who claim that to protect the theory of evolution... Pokémon must be exterminated.

Mr. Mendel Wallace: “The word evolution is to be used for the eternally continuing evolution of creatures upon this earth for over 2 million years, not a word for Pokémon transformations.”
(Members of Audience) “Yeah, that's right!”
Mr. Mendel Wallace: “For example, the evolution of Caterpie into Metapod is like the transformation of a caterpillar into a cocoon before becoming a butterfly, the proper term for this process among animals is metamorphosis.”
(Members of Audience) “No objections!”
Mr. Mendel Wallace: “When an egg hatches into a tadpole that eventually becomes a frog, people don't call that evolution. However, what is known as evolution among Pokémon isn't always a simple metamorphosis.”
(Members of Audience) “Yeah, that's right!”
Mr. Mendel Wallace: There is too much that is unknown about what is known as Pokémon evolution. For example, the evolved form of Pikachu, Raichu, it is uncertain whether it retains memories of its time as a Pikachu. By that same token, it's impossible to ask whether a frog retains memories of its time at a tadpole... Put simply, you cannot know a frog's thoughts unless you can ask a frog, just as you cannot know a Raichu's thoughts without being able to ask a Raichu.”
(Members of Audience) “No objections!”
Mr. Mendel Wallace: “Now the maintained resemblance between Pikachu and Raichu is one thing, but despite living in the same ocean habitat, you'd be hard pressed to say that the fish Pokémon Magikarp in any way resembles its evolved form, the atrocious Pokémon Gyarados. Additionally, it would also be difficult to say that a tadpole in any way resembles a frog... At least that much can be said. Other than Pokémon, at least to the best of my knowledge, no creature retains memories of previous evolutionary forms.
(Members of Audience) “Yeah, that's right!”
Mr. Mendel Wallace: “Is it even right for us to acknowledge such mysterious creatures as living beings? We of the Shinkar Darwin Theory of Evolution Supportive Committee feel that neither the word evolution or the word metamorphosis should be used in relation to Pokémon.”
(All Present) “No objections!”
Mr. Mendel Wallace: “No, I would go as far as to say that the mere existence of Pokémon in this world, defying all logic in the theory of evolution, causes problems for our views. ... I say that Pokémon evolution should be referred to by a different name. ... Evolution is not a word to be used for these creatures who ought not exist.”
(All Present) “Yeeaaah!”

An excerpt from a taped recording of a Shinkar Darwin Theory of Evolution Supportive Committee secret rally

Note #2) The general public care little for how the scientific community refer to Pokémon evolution. But it is clear that the phenomenon actually exists... it was simply a case where the word evolution made the concept easy to comprehend and eventually came into everyday usage. Research into the possible connection between evolution as defined in the theory of evolution and the Pokémon phenomenon known as evolution is ongoing.

An excerpt from the memos of Pokémon Analyst Bill Sonezaki"

Just one more chapter to finish the first volume out of two.

While I do, as I get older, tend to prefer some more wholesomeness in my interests... it's tidbits like this, welcoming and unsettling alike, I miss from the Gen I and II eras the most, be it anime or games.

The inevitable ever-expansion of the universe in terms of 'mons and humans alike and attempts to make it truly G-rated means you can't give this kind of characterization and focus to anyone past those initially heady, risky early days of the franchise. Look at Pokemon Special's earliest entries when it was just the RBGY arc, there's absolutely no way you'd get those kind of plots or personalities now even accounting the mangaka get a lot more information off the bat from the game-makers on what everything's like nowadays. The same goes for Gen II being a direct sequel to Gen I, which now feels so weird in the present even though it felt like the most natural and exciting thing back then to see what happened next in Pokemon! I KNOW a timeline exists, but there's so little actual continuing plot points or connective tissue that it feels pointless to even have one.

Eternal, endless new entries in a franchise really ruins so many wonderful concepts and settings.

I get you, even when I am not a genwunner or gentwooner I feel that at some point they started to neuter everything pokemon related, even more in the main games. They feel sometimes so corporate and sterile that it doesn't make sense that it is set in a believable world.

That is why I like pokemon manga so much, I feel like these manga for very young kids are the only few places that have very little attention to it and we can have something else. I posted my journey here with pokemon re:burst and pokemon Diamond and pearl adventures and there was a glimpse of something made by and for humans that normal pokemon games don't have no more.

Also enjoy this timeline:

The thing about pokemon timelines from the games we know more was because of the leaks than anything official from the games. And I reafirm what I said before with the teraleak, I much prefer one thousand folk tales about Typhlosion marrying girls than what we get today.

As for fan games, I really felt that the games Scorched Silver and Altair/Sirius/Vega had the most early pokemon like in their writing. Some games adapted the anime storytelling like Orange Islands, but I felt that Scorched was a true sequel to the original Silver and Altair had the feeling of a true pokemon game that integrated the anime world view (and the fakemon are so much fucking cool)

The games have been consistent at least in the idea that the Pokemon are physically shrunk down and sitting inside the ball, like you see in the main manga series. It's just never been given that much attention so people tend to get the wrong idea from big flashes of light during ball animations and the fact that the anime depicts it like the Pokemon turn into energy when they go in and out of the ball - which after thinking about it, I'm guessing that was only done as an animation cost-saving method.

The Special manga takes it a bit further since it gives the Poke Balls translucent tops that the you can see the Pokemon inside through, and sometimes even has them look at or interact with the outside world through it.

I know that pokespe pokeballs worked different, but wad the anime or games ever spoken more about it?

I know that pokespe pokeballs worked different, but wad the anime or games ever spoken more about it?
The Pokedex book Creatures released in Japan back in 1996 had a bunch of lore information that was considered canon, and it went into stuff about Poke Balls being invented after it was discovered by a scientist that Pokemon will shrink down tiny when under stressful enough stimuli to escape danger and rest. The name of this scientist was Nishinomori, and one filler episode in the early anime had Ash meet his descendant, their name translated in the dub as Westwood.

In DPP, if you talk to Lucian in Canalave Library in the post-game he'll tell about things he's been reading, one thing he can say is that he was reading about how Poke Balls work and how they take advantage of a Pokemon's instinct to shrink down small to protect itself. This is obscured in the English version which translates it as Pokemon "curling up tight" presumably because the localizers didn't understand, but in Japanese he literally says they "get smaller".

And most recently and direction, Legends Arcues has Prof. Laventon explains early on that Poke Balls work by taking advantage of all Pokemon's nature to shrink down small.

This idea fits how things are presented in the games. Have you ever noticed that in the first couple generations the Pokemon kind of "expend" out when released from their balls, and shrink down to a pixel when getting caught? Cause they're shrinking to fit in the ball, and growing to full size when released. In Scarlet/Violet, you can sometimes see the Pokemon in a tiny state when released from a ball if you watch frame by frame. You ever notice how wild Pokemon in later generations just sort of shrink out of existence when fainted? It's because they're literally shrinking down to escape and heal from the encounter. Ever wonder why you can't catch fainted Pokemon? Because that means they've already shrunken down too small for you to find them and throw a ball at them.

Poke Balls work by taking advantage of all Pokemon's nature to shrink down small.

This idea fits how things are presented in the games.
It feels a little silly, but the shrinking being inherent to the Pokemon themselves explains a lot, from why hollowed out Apricorns work as Pokeballs and why the magic animals are called "Pocket Monsters" in the first place. Honestly, it seems like something that would be phased out similarly to real animals so I'm surprised it's referenced in Legends Arceus.

I enter this thread and realize the DLC was announced and contains more retarded-looking megas. Why do so many of them have tentacle-like appendages coming out of them? Why does Darkrai turn into a giant fish? Whatever, I can't even be bothered to care.

It's just never been given that much attention so people tend to get the wrong idea from big flashes of light during ball animations and the fact that the anime depicts it like the Pokemon turn into energy when they go in and out of the ball - which after thinking about it, I'm guessing that was only done as an animation cost-saving method.
What you said makes sense, especially the part about why you can't catch fainted Pokemon, but imo the main reason why people think Pokemon turn into energy is due to the PC, which does turn them into data to be uploaded to the PC boxes. That's a part of Pokemon that never made much sense to young me, I've always found the idea of turning living, breathing beings into data that can be stored in a computer a little weird and terrifying.

I hope none of you liked Heatran.
...too late.
I feel bittersweet: while Heatran, one of my favourite Pokémon, got more love, and this Mega is accurate to Pokédex lore... this Mega could have been designed way better.

You talk about Gigantimax makes this make more sense, though. In fact, once again, I feel that generations o fan fixati on Mega Evolution was a big reason why Pokémon decided to ditch all of those 'alternate Pokémon' gimmicks and move their designs under the 'Mega Evolution' tent.

I didn't know Heatran was so small and made cute little chirps till Arceus and I like it more now due to that.
but why do they keep putting it in games, its a catchable legendary in so many of them and its entire lore amounts to "It lives in Volcanos and is hot".
Its not even a mythical but a full blown Legendary

i managed to find all the colorful screws except one, which will basically be impossible to find
yeah so i found the last one

...

...INSIDE THE FUCKING RACINE CONSTRUCTION BUILDING. it never occurred to me to check /inside/ the building because at no fucking point were any of the other colorful screws inside buildings (iirc). but at the same time it would make sense that a screw would be inside the building because the dude who trades colorful screws is standing outside the building and is part of racine construction. but like fuck you, man, that's /bullshit/. but at least i have the stupid giant canari plush that literally does nothing other than sit in my hotel room now, so that was totally worth it.

have been refreshing for a shiny female snorunt in area 12 iirc, and so far i've ended up finding a shiny machoke and machop that i mentioned earlier in the thread, and a shiny snover. very disappoint. then i was wandering elsewhere in the city and ran into a shiny gastly and patrat within minutes of each other.

i 'm trying to get a shiny froslass to replace my banette, because aesthetics, which are very important

also how're we feeling about mega absol z
grimdark.png

i kind of love it tbh

also how're we feeling about mega absol z
the wing hand claw thing is weirdly meaty. Okay overall, fits absol and works as an opposite to regular mega Absol. I'm glad they added a type to mix it up a bit more than just a shitload of speed.

i'd have to see it in action to see if it animates weird. i agree it's kinda meaty as well, but maybe it's not so bad in motion. and yeah, i'm pretty hyped that it got a secondary typing, gives it more options for STABs.

man, there's so many megas i want to use. i don't want to equip my whole party with mega stones instead of normal holdable items, but they're making it so difficult uguuu

Oh yeah, the PC is a thing. I don't think even Game Freak has really thought of that aspect much beyond it being a gameplay convenience. I don't remember there anything extra said about it even in leaked stuff. I think the closest thing to lore that's ever been made for the PC system other than Bill inventing it is that Porygon being a digital Pokemon is maybe meant to be related to the technology? Even the anime seems to treat it like a teleportation system to send Pokemon Prof. Oak or whoever instead of literally storing the Pokemon in the cloud.

At least in Arceus you put them on a farm. I think if they tried to downplay the fact you are putting 1000s of them in storage and instead tread like most people only have a few mons that the box somehow magically sends from you to a farm for instead of them being digital storage it would make more sense..
but this is pokemon, everything is demonic if you start to think about how horrible the world is and gets even worse once you add in the multi dimension shit.
