Fellow Kiwis!
I was considering repeating a reoccurring mistake I make and buying a console for a single game, the Switch and either Scarlet or Violet.
I've not played since Moon (which I bought a 3DS for and got within spitting distance of a living dex). Is the game actually worth it? Will I find some further mileage in other Nintendo games? Should I get the OLED version or regular, or just wait for the next gen Switch (which I didn't know existed until looking into this)?
For the curious, I also got a PS4 for Kingdom Hearts 3. I waited 14 years for that fucker. Maybe I should just stick to PC and give up on consoles entirely. Everything non-Nintendo makes it here eventually
Is playing online or on-the-go an important factor? If not, you could save the money by just emulating it if you have no issue with pirating games.
If you do want to buy a console and you think there may be future Nintendo games you'll want to play, then you might as well spend extra for a Switch 2 coming out soon. It's backwards compatible with 99% of Switch games and may have framerate improvements when playing them.

As for the quality of Scarlet/Violet itself, I mean, it's Pokemon. Battles are still slow and easy, but maybe that's fine so long as you get to do Pokemon stuff. SV has an open world, which was ambitious for Game Freak but it's pretty empty. Some people like the story, but that's by Pokemon standards. The biggest negative talking point is that the game is really buggy, but people's tolerance levels for that with Pokemon varies a lot from some people not caring to others thinking the glitches are funny to others finding the game nearly unplayable. The most spectacular glitches seem to mostly only happen when you're playing multiplayer and have other people in the game world with you.

Yeah, I have zero desire to carry it around. If there's good Switch emulation, I might go that route, but I've been trying to pirate less because I don't really have the excuse of "I'm broke and wouldn't buy it anyway" to go with.
I'll probably tell myself I'll get the Switch 2 when demands die down and then just forget it entirely for a while. I've never done the Nintendo home console thing, so I don't have a burning desire to play any of the Mario or Smash or whatever is on there, but the newer Pokémon (Which have been out for what? 2 years?) and Legend of Zelda games are the first things that've actually caught my eye in a long while.

Pokemmo is pretty kino for those of you who aren't mentally ill and only like up to gen 5 lets be real gen 6 and the onwards are dog shit and almost all of the mons are slop and 3d games look like shit. Pokemmo is kino fun I'm almost finished kanto. it's my first time using charzard and that nigga is pretty strong.

i also have a level 8 zigzagoon named zigzagC00N that is my HM slave. hes been with me in gen five and gen two and hes in their hall of fame, he's my favorite mon but he will never gain levels.

edit - adding stuff

I am just catching up to the Super Mariomon drama. People here mostly just covered the tracing stuff, and yeah it's pretty bad(especially for a project that was PAID FOR) but I am more disgusted with the technical aspect of the romhack. Emerald is a pretty solid base, the only major glitch I can think of it has is Glitzer Popping(which you have to go out of your way for as it is an ACE exploit), so seeing all these bugs and glitches just made me facepalm. What a group of incompetent monkeys this dude gave money to, I can see why there is skibidi toilet jokes and traced sprites up the ass as this is the least of the mod's problems.
Shame, the idea is actually pretty interesting, execution is another story. Was this ever fixed in any way, or is it abandoned and permanently broken now that AlphaRad made his video on it?

Gen 6 had a lot of problems, but it’s mom designs are not one of them. The only truly weak ones I can think of were the Barbacle and Diggersby lines. Even Gen 7 has a bunch of great designs, even if it is kept above water by Megas and Ultra Beasts.

I kinda sort of agree, but at the end of the day 3D pokemon main line games were the nail in the coffin for the series. you also have to admit that the game literally spawned the tranny mascot pokemon sylveon or whatever it's called or something.

Also fairy types are fucking gay as hell and kinda ruin the point of dragon type also now ghost dark is meaningless so spirttomb and sabeleye can be put in the bin. also, all the fairy type designs are lazy and boring. megas and ultra beasts are honestly fucking gay as hell and belong in a shit game like yu gi oh or that carbon copy wanna be pokemon game digimon.

I tried making Lumineon work in SM meta. This thing is just way too mediocre, it should have at least gotten a Flying typing so that it would have some sort of niche. Water/Flying mon are rather rare.
I enjoyed using it as a support pokemon in Scarlet/Violet VGC doubles, for that regulation where legendaries weren't allowed. It's niche being that it's the only Tailwind setter with Storm Drain. Gave it Soak, which was very fun for setting up surprise kills, but awkward to use since it doesn't work on Tera'd targets. Encore as well.

Well, at least your opinions are consistently dogshit. Fairy is, both thematically and mechanically, damn near perfect. Remember, it exists as a balance to how out of hand Dragon and Dark got by the end of Gen 5. You know, the exact reason why Dark and Steel themselves were introduced. Ghost/Dark having no weaknesses was retarded mechanically, and was never actually utilized thematically. If having a single 2x weakness is enough to ruin a Pokemon, then that Pokemon wasn't exactly that great to begin with.

Megas and Ultra Beasts were fucking great. They were each a discrete addition to refresh concepts that were at risk of becoming stale: Megas for the battle system and Ultra Beasts for Legendary Pokemon. I struggle to find a visual design for either that is any worse than "pretty good".* They both achieve their intended goals of over-the-top redesigns of existing Pokemon for the former, and really out there original designs for the latter.

Digimon trying to be Pokemon was as untrue in 1999 as it is today. Even the Cyber Sleuth games, which come closest to the Pokemon formula, still take more from their Tamagotchi-like origins than Pokemon.

*Mega Charizard Y and the Mega Latis are really the only "weak" Megas, and that's due to how fun the entire concept really is. The Naganadel line are the weakest Ultra Beast designs, since there really isn't any actually theming to make them more interesting.

Politely disagree, because binacle and barbaracle have a chaotic G1 energy.

Bro I haven't played a new Pokemon game in like ten fuckin' years. The idea of a Pokemon MMO sounds awful because: 1) MMO's in general are awful, 2) Playing Pokemon with other people outside of playground rules is awful, and 3) it'd indubitably open world, which universally makes games awful.

The patrician answer is to mess around with the various disassemblies.

I agree that what you describe sounds like hell and MMOs are fucking dogshit, open world pokemon games are crap. Pokemmo is just the first 5 games roms, you play the region you want to play and there's a global trade link and you go between regions by catching a boat. that's it, that's the game. I think there is a micro transaction store where you buy shity little cosmetics, but you have to be a real low iq nigger to pay for a game that is free. it's nothing that you've imagined. As for you saying you don't play modern pokemon, why even defend it ?

I haven’t. The concepts I’ve defended are a decade old at best, and are from games that, were you to take such elements away, could still be described as “serviceable if a bit stale” at worst. The issues with Pokémon only metastasized with the Switch titles selling so well despite being a massive step down in quality.

The concept for Ultra Beasts was great, but design-wise some of them kinda suck. They should have stuck with Megas throughout the games instead of DMax/Gmax and Terrestialization.

I've personally never been someone who feels really strongly about the designs. Some designs I like and some I don't, even the ones i don't particularly like, I'm usually just indifferent towards them. A part of this is definitely because there's bigger problems in modern pokemon then the designs. Even if I hated the designs in gens 8 or 9 I would still think there's other issues to point out.

In a way, it shows the quality of pokemon and the state of the fanbase if there's non-factors to complain about, like how a lot of people disliked the designs of unovan pokemon. This also goes for certain things I personally complained about even in the 3ds era. Back during gen 6 i wished that the, at the time, modern games would be more difficult, but now? I'd personally be fine with gen 10 being easier than X&Y if the rest of the game is good.

Was this ever fixed in any way, or is it abandoned and permanently broken now that AlphaRad made his video on it?
Alpharad is still working on his other rom hack 'too many types' after it released, so he probably will eventually

I’ve been catching up with all of these videos coming out from people camping out in front of stores overnight to scalp purchase cards, especially the prismatic evolutions SPC at gameslop. The crashing out has made me realize something: all of these people who crowd restocks and camp out and give into FOMO all seem to be low IQ spergs. You camp out for another product of a set you know has dogshit pulls? You want to get into a fight over this shit set? You’re a fucking moron and you can have all of this sealed product. You have to lack any kind of self awareness to act the way these people act in public and they don’t even play the TCG.

The retarded collectorfags have motivated me to call it quits trying to buy anything else, especially with destined rivals and soon BB/WF being as heavily bought out as they are and people clearing out stores as well as breaking street dates. I’m just going to finish my galarian/trainer gallery collection like I did with ex era master sets and skip the rest of this like I did the DPP and HG/SS eras. I’ve mentioned (a now former) coworker who now spends over $500 every restock day who was rubbing it in both mine and my wife’s faces because we’ve both chosen to just play our let’s go games we got a while back.

I’ve found a lot of enjoyment in let’s go eevee despite the problems with leveling up being tied to trainer battles and catching wild Pokemon. I like that your eevee can wear cute accessories like the tiny little diglett hat.
