I'd buy Gumshoose being based on Trump if they had literally anything in common other than a toupee. You have to remember, before 2016, the biggest pop culture influence he had was as a business mogul and hosting The Apprentice—if they wanted to make a Trump pokemon, why the hell would it be detective themed and not some kind of "big boss" businessman?

okay I got a snickers and calmed down a bit

Lookie lookie at it's shiny form
HOME0648_s.pngSpr_5b_648_s.pngSpr_6x_648_s.png
this does not justify the design being made to resemble Hatsune Miku as the shiny forms are chosen by completely different people
there is a chance that the shiny designer made it as a reference given the popularity at the time, HOWEVER:

Pirouette form has a completely different shiny (made by the same person) and bears absolutely no resemblance, so at best one half of a mythical Pokémon's illegal alternate form (Meloetta's shiny could not be obtained without hacks until less than 2 years ago) vaguely resembles a pop culture figure.

This is not anywhere near the strong resemblance Gumshoos has to Trump, which was also a coincidence and not intentional, so I am not tempted to give them any credit for this.

Also, you're still retarded. Retarded enough to make me mad. You have no right to comment on reading comprehension when page 1107 of this thread starts with you asking a question that is answered in the very post you quoted.

I'm not going to fight it anymore though, that's just stupid. I am not on this site to be mad at stupid people, I am here to laugh at them.

It has more to do with Gumshoos chasing out the "illegal" migrant Pokemon(A-Rattatta) more than anything else
Getting Mexicans out and making Mexico pay for the wall was the big talking point at the time. Let's not forget that there is literally a city surrounded by a wall in the game too(altho I always thought it was more of an upper middle class housing complex more than a city).

This has already been discussed:
  • role in-game is to chase out invasive species (hard stance on illegal immigration)
  • "immigrated" to Alola (Trump's family came from Germany)
  • signature ability is Stakeout: an ability that deals double-damage to any Pokémon that switches in to replace another (Trump won one term, lost the next election, and then won his second term with a trifecta)
  • it has notches in its ears where Trump was shot
As you can see, half of this only became relevant in 2024. The other portion is coincidence based on developer intention. Gumshoos is partly based on a gumshoe detective (hence the constant emphasis on hunting down "criminals") and partly based on anti-invasive invasive species: stuff like bufo toads in Australia, where they were brought in to solve a problem and promptly became problems themselves. That's why Gumshoos "immigrated," that's why Gumshoos is hunting rats with mustaches, that's why Gumshoos has the weird hair that looks like a toupee... but also looks like a little like a stereotypical detective hat.

It is mostly coincidence. But it's funny.

I still dont understand "Charmander is so weak against Brock" i keep hearing. i just use ember on Geoduode and Onix to death (best feeling is when they get burned). hell, im pretty sure Charmander learns metal clew in Fire Red that makes the fight even more of a joke. Sure, Misty is the real wall but at that point the game gives you plenty of options to beat her.

I remember beating the game as a child just using Charmander and pidgey but at some point, boxed charizard and solo the rest of the game with a Pidgeot.

Brock is built in such a way to teach younger players that not all their problems are solved by mashing A to use tackle or scratch (at least not efficiently). The only way Brock is really going to give you a hard time is if you have nothing but physical moves that aren't super effective.

Or you're using a Pikachu in Yellow, the game that was meant to showcase him...

It goes a lot easier if you propose a good alternate theory.

I always thought the dominant inspiration was specifically classical music and classical female performers - after all, they're called Aria and Pirouette formes, and the move to switch between them is called Relic Song/Ancient Song. The aria forme's long hair that drapes down always evoked a classic theatrical beauty vibe to me. From there, Meloetta may have had just a tinge of Miku in it's original colour choices, but they're easily explained as just green being passive and red active.

And with a bit more digging, I can actually believe it's also got inspirations even more ancient; it's most likely at it's core based on a muse, being able to serve as a source of creative inspiration much like mythological muses. Miku may have had some relation, but I honestly think that's more likely to be a coincidence than anything.

And in fact, I'll put one more nail in this coffin. Project Voltage, the Miku + Pokemon Collab that included making a design of miku based on every type along with giving each one a signature pokemon, usually one associated with music in some way (like Kricketune for bug, Primarina for Water, Skeledirge for fire, Jigglypuff for Fairy etc. etc. To be fair it did have the first of these type variants be Psychic Miku with Aria Meloetta, and it's probably the closest to a 'real' miku design out of the group - as in, something the original Miku could actually look like. So they do acknowledge that Aria Meloetta is probably the closest actual comparison that Miku could have in the Pokemon World.

But the Pokemon that's actually on the title, with the original Miku Design? the one that's on the cover with Pikachu and Miku?

It's farfetch'd, because leekspin. And when they get to fighting type miku, the pirouette form of meloetta - and indeed, any possible musical fighting-type like kommo-o - loses out to Sirfetch'd. So they acknowledge a possible connection, but they don't give it significantly more prominence than any of the other pokemon set up to match the types.

Don't get me wrong, they treat it as a good fit... and not anything more than that.

Seriously, didn't they have that guy at the beginning of each Gym who drops a very blatant hint about which type that you should use, back then?
Black & White took it a step furthur and had the first gym be the "we explain to literal retards how type matchups work" gym. Aside from the questions and floor """puzzles""", depending on your starter, you wound up facing the type you had a disadvantage against.

Well, that usually explains the forced hints in...An lot of games? Seriously, didn't they have that guy at the beginning of each Gym who drops a very blatant hint about which type that you should use, back then?
Nigga, i couldn't even read English back then and i still beat the game.

I guess watching the anime and talking with other kids on the play ground also helped.

Yeah, that might have been an waste of a gym, imo. Especially with how short it was

Yeah, but it takes an special kind of retard to consistently lose in this series. But the anime kind of had their own set of rules, though Like the fight against that Onix

People forget that every game is someone's first Pokemon experience and they need the basics explained to them as well. This is a thing in other RPGs as well.

I don't mind the early game help, I have enough theory of mind to realize that as much as I'm an adult who enjoys the games that they are aimed towards children who might be new to the series. I like when they have fun with it, though -- B/W's first gym having three leaders who pick the type strong against your starter to encourage you to use the free monkey always sticks out to me.

I always say (somewhat provocatively) that the best designed battle in the entire pokemon series is Hop's first battle in sword and shield. The first battle after you get your starter.

Because it looks like they just gave him a wooloo to compensate for having the starter weak to yours, but actually that entire battle is designed to make you seem disadvantaged but come out on top - the wooloo gives just enough EXP to get your pokemon to level up, which teaches it a super-effective move for his actual starter. In that one battle it covers type advantage, levelling up and learning new moves, plants the idea in the player's head they can catch more pokemon OR beat through multiple if theirs are stronger, and does it all while making it look like you're in a disadvantageous position while actually giving you the exact tools to dismantle it as you need them.

I'm not sure i've ever heard a more insanely stupid assertion in my life. Singing does not always equal fucking Hatsune Miku, and Meloetta has absolutely zero similarities.

To me she always seemed Vocaloid inspired. But not specifically Miku. Although she just might be inspired by idols in general.

<Laughs in Elite Four>
You can easily cheese Elite Four with just one Pokemon, at least in Gen 1. JRose(I linked him last page) shows that time and time again, it all depends on which Pokemon you're using. These don't even have to be starters, he's soloed E4 with single stage shitmons(altho some of these were very high level to compensate for poor performance).
