ORAS loses out on the battle frontier but the Zinnia theme is my favorite bit of that gameI see some people here we're shit-talking ORAS, I kinda want to fedpost at the moment because that shit was my jam in middle school.
ORAS and Emerald are both worth playing, each for different reasons. Neither is the "ultimate game", that would be a romhack that brings back all the Gen 6 Pokemon, Fairy Types, the new moves and physical/special split into Emerald. I'm sure something like that exists, but for vanilla games, both have their own cons and pros.I see some people here we're shit-talking ORAS, I kinda want to fedpost at the moment because that shit was my jam in middle school.
Same could be said for OG Diamond and Pearl, there's literally no reason to even buy them over any of the superior versions.ORAS and Emerald are both worth playing, each for different reasons. Original Ruby and Sapphire, on the other hand, I don't see why you would ever play them. Even if you have nostalgia for them, they lack technical improvements and are buggier than Emerald and FRLG.
Well, there is one: Stunky and Purrloin, depending on version, were only available in those games, and a handful of other games since. They are one of the rarer Pokemon for that reason. There is some other obscure reasons to keep them around, but for an average playthru, Platinum or HGSS will suffice better.Same could be said for OG Diamond and Pearl, there's literally no reason to even buy them over any of the superior versions.
I will never fucking get why they made it impossible to get the version exclusives in-game without trading in the third versions. Its literal nonsensical thinking on their part, as the third versions usually allowed you to at least catch both versions' respective legendaries.Well, there is one: Stunky and Purrloin, depending on version, were only available in those games, and a handful of other games since. No zangooseOriginal Ruby and Sapphire, on the other hand, I don't see why you would ever play them.
Platinum, HGSS, BW2 - I know that you said non-remake but seeing as how Emerald is a remake of R/S I think it defeats the purpose of including that as a qualifier.which games, non-remake are better than Emerald? it seems like the peak of the franchise.
USUM were the first redux games that I felt were worse than the original. I can understand why someone would prefer them to the originals, but if you're like me and don't care about Shinies, found the hard shift from Legendaries to Ultra Beasts and mulitverses really stupid, and don't like the Battle Tower, it took SM from a diet BW and turned it into a visual novel with a Pokemon interface and a lot of forced memes.Friend, having opinions is okay, even if they're wrong. I have like 600+ hours in my ultra game compared to about 250 hours in my Sun game, and 150+ of those hours is just grind for Battle Tree and the battles within it. I think that about says it all.
I don't think ORAS were good remakes of RSE but I don't dislike them either - they were the last mainline Pokemon games I enjoyed. Maybe some of it was nostalgia but it didn't feel like the grind that Alola felt like and the setting still felt like Pokemon to me, as opposed to the very sterilized Alola.I see some people here we're shit-talking ORAS, I kinda want to fedpost at the moment because that shit was my jam in middle school.
I will never forgive GF for choosing Seviper over my boy for Emerald. No zangoose![]()
The only good Pokemon game since Crystal.I'm playing Pokémon Coral at the moment and I'm going to start ROWE later.

Meowth should be suffering from neck problems because of this.
I'm pretty sure you could get it in the GC games, along with Roselia who also wasn't available in Emerald among others. This is why Ruby and Sapphire are truly irrelevant as of Emerald's release, even in Gen 4 HGSS or Platinum didn't bring back Stunky or Purrloin, they did actually remain 100% exclusive to Diamond and Pearl until BW2 I believe, and even then relegated to Hidden Grottos. No zangoose![]()

it was once my jam too but after I played the originals there was no going backI see some people here we're shit-talking ORAS, I kinda want to fedpost at the moment because that shit was my jam in middle school.
gonna be honest, I personally do it because they're kind of fun to break. The Pickup trick doesn't work in Emerald and that, combined with the lack of phys/spec split, makes them really cheesy fun if you're in the right mood for it. I also prefer some minor aspects like the font and Brendan's design, but those are so incredibly unimportant to most of the game that they aren't by any means selling points.Original Ruby and Sapphire, on the other hand, I don't see why you would ever play them. Correct! But only XD: Gale of Darkness!I'm pretty sure you could get it in the GC games, along with Roselia who also wasn't available in Emerald among others.
While it's no substitute for just making one version where you can just get all the mons without needing to trade, something I don't see many people mention is that Platinum actually will allow you to fill out the national dex legitimately without needing to do anything special. If you just battle every NPC trainer and catch/evolve the remainder you will be able to complete the national dex without needing to trade or breed a single mon since they put the other starter lines, Eeveelutions, version exclusives and the cool new evolutions for the old mons on the NPC trainers. I don't think any other mainline Pokemon game has done that either.Gen 4+ relied on Wi-fi/temporary codes that expire (or cheating) for all their mythicals alongside the previous "right place right time" stuff so those ones are pretty much out the window
If you're talking Platinum over Diamond and Pearl, I can think of just one reason. There's an exploit that allows you to boundary break and access Darkrai and Shaymin without having access to their events. Platinum fixes this by not allowing those Pokemon to spawn unless you have the event items. Catching Darkrai and Shaymin and possibly hunting for their shiny variants are the only reason to play Diamond and Pearl over Platinum. That's discounting Pokemon exclusive to Diamond and Pearl if you care about finishing your Sinnoh Pokedex.Same could be said for OG Diamond and Pearl, there's literally no reason to even buy them over any of the superior versions.
My brother loved doing the boundary break mystery zone exploit back in the day. Me, I actually created a set of custom Wonder Cards that you could share with others unlimited times. Back in Gen 4, there were a few Wonder Cards that you could redeem on multiple carts, such as berries and what have you, I took the event items(Letter for Shaymin, Member Card for Darkrai and the cut Azure Flute for Arceus and the key to get Rotom forms) and modified them to be shared on multiple carts, those carts could also share their wondercards unlimited amount of times as long as they kept them around, creating an infinite amount of giveaways if you wanted to. This means that once I share them, I can legit catch these three event Pokemon, even in Diamond/Pearl where these events never happened, surprisingly they're mostly the same thing as in Platinum. For those wondering, the DP Shaymin/Darkrai are not bankable and neither is the Azure Flute Arceus even from Platiunum, altho it DOES unlock a new event in HGSS if you bring it to the Sinjoh Ruins, letting you have two eggs instead of one.If you're talking Platinum over Diamond and Pearl, I can think of just one reason.
