Thank you for reminding me that Arceus browsing google images wasn't just a fever dream.
It gets better when you realize the real schizo lore the devs had in mind when designing this event, that we now know thanks to the leaks.
...would have been fun for them to actually *put* that lore somewhere around the time the game came out, you know in an anime movie or the manga if not in the games themselves, instead it gets buried in the official, canon Typhlosion, Lapras and Octillery rape folklore found within the same leak.

I can understand why they wouldn't want to put this kind of schizophrenia in the game if they thought the Azure Flute was too complex for their audience

(sorry for the shitty picture. Somehow, nobody has archived this basic shit properly in the months since it's been leaked.)

At least we got to see it eventually, even if by unofficial means. :)

As someone who has done Azure Flute event many times, I can tell you right now this just makes me laugh. Sure, there is little hint as to where you're supposed to go, but it's not like kids back then didn't have internet. Hell, more obscure than catching Arceus is the fact that in Platinum you get a free Flame Plate from a random Hiker if you have Arceus in your party. How are you supposed to know this?

Tfw we still don't know who smilay and birthly are
I like having some mystery left in the games, in this day and age where everything is explained, and datamined.

A bit of a powerlevel but I use Discord (no shocker) and I got a plugin that allows me to see locked channels. Guess what the Freakleak Discord had all this time?

Yeahhhhh....they were already sharing builds of Legends ZA with the admins and mods for a while now.

So know how one can use healing moves outside of battle in other RPGs, and even in the PMD series?

Why is it one can't one use something like Recover outside of battle in the core pocketmons vidya?

A lot of that originates with field moves in gen 1 being jank as fuck, even working with limited memory/screen space.

But on the other hand: who cares? It’s Pokémon, healing items are super cheap to begin with, and only get cheaper once you get to the first vending machine. Unless you’re doing some sort of self-imposed challenge, in which case you’re probably not making an exception for Softboiled.

If one wants to restore HP and doesn't want to use or doesn't have healing items for some reason, one has to get into a battle to use the heal move if it can't be used outside of battle. Meanwhile in in FFVI, one just has to select Curaga from menu to use it anytime.

Right, but Curaga still consumes a resource whereas field moves in Pokémon do not, which would already trivialize an already easy JRPG. And you would have to completely rebalance recovery moves if you want them to consume PP in the field.

Why did they put so much hype into hidden power as a field move but never use it? Cannot recall a single use case for it.
Hidden power is used in competitive (and in speed running communities). It's not an all powerful tool, but it has its uses.

So, softboil and milk drink operated on the same rules (health transfer, useable outside of battle), prior to gen 7. So, I guess the healing moves rule only applies when it's something innate to the Pokemon (milk and eggs), and not a power within (psychic healing with recover). That's kinda neat.

That's not what I meant. I meant as a tool for exploring the game world without speedrunning along the lines of flash or dig.
