This game has some pretty cool dex descriptions.

Something I found out thanks to the Mareanie @SteelPlatedHeart traded me is that people are willing to give quite a few good Pokemon for one on GTS. If you need version exclusives or another Pokemon that's a pain to get like Dhelmise, breeding Mareanie en masse and putting them on GTS is the best bet to get what you want quick and easy.
The GTS is a blessing tbh. I managd to fill my 'dex in Pokémon Y pretty much just by peddling Piplups.

Okay, so I accidentally knocked the Wimpod on Route 8's health into the yellow and it ran away. It's been over 48 hours since that happened and I've entered and exited the route again and again via the Pokecenter and the hotel, and Wimpod still hasn't respawned. I'm getting pretty worried.

That's a bit weird; I did the same thing when I first went through that area, but it respawned as soon as I exited the route and came back. Maybe completely exit the area by going back into town and then go back to see if that's done anything? It's not a Poke'mon limited to appear by time of day or anything so it should be respawning for you.

What is EV training? Is it important? Should we do that?
EV stands for Effort Value. It's a hidden value that you can't really look at very closely unless you're active tracking them as you gain them. The gist of it is, every Pokemon in the game, when defeated, will grant any Pokemon in your party that got experience from the fight EVs in a specific stat - usually it's whatever stat the opponent Pokemon was most proficient in. The EVs your Pokemon has will influence how its stats grow as it levels up.

So for instance, I am currently EV training my Tapu Lele (Timid nature aww yiss). Because I plan for it to be a strong, fast special attacker, I want its Special Attack and Speed to be as high as possible. So instead of training it up by simply killing anything I see, I'm instead only focusing on defeating Pokemon who give EVs in Special Attack (like Gastly) or Speed (like Zubat). That way, as it levels up, the bulk of its stat gains will go towards Special Attack and Speed, and not into more useless stats like Attack or Defense. Essentially, it's a way of min-maxing my Tapu Lele's stats so that I get more of the stats I want and less of the stats I don't want.

There are a bunch of guides online that explain how EVs work and the best way to EV train, if you decide that's what you want to do. Serebii.net is a good place to start.

As for whether or not it's important? If you're planning to battle online and maintain a good win rating, or keep a good win streak going in the Battle Tree, then yeah, it's probably a pretty good idea. If you're just keeping to the single-player game and playing casually, then I wouldn't worry about it.

The main games are incredibly easy, people gotta do something to make em more fun.

Yeah, but I got this odd habit every time I do a replay, where I would make it about 3/4ths through, but get too bored of the game by then before starting a save in a different game/romhack.

Fuck, I gotta get back on Pokemon Glazed - Fuckin good hack.

I'm aware of Merciless, It's just that it's primarily a Defensive Pokemon stat-wise and even with the constant crits more dedicated offensive Pokemon are better at the job of killing things with direct damage than it. Good for in-game at least
It's been working really well for me with a Toxic/Venoshock combo. Fair point though.

I honestly lucked the fuck out and got a Critical Catch off a Quick Ball I through at the start of the battle.

You've gotta spend all your beans upgrading the first island in poke pelago.
Also, I've only seen one ditto (that I accidentally KO'd.) 5% encounter rate my ass. It seems like it's less than 1%!
I must've been lucky because I just randomly walked into a patch of grass on that mountain road near the observatory and bam! Wild Ditto appears. Took me some time to catch it, but I finally managed to get it using Ultra Balls and traded it for a Japanese one on the GTS.

Incidentally, I find the Tapus are really useful for capturing wild pokes because their 'Nature's Madness' attack will half the target's HP, then half the half etc. without killing them unless they have 1HP.
Pretty helpful for reducing the target's HP without the risk of going overboard and killing them.

Barley 3 hours into moon and my gf caught a shiney slowpoke.

Bitch!
That'll teach you for being a normie. I don't have a partner and never had this problem so take that loser haha!

Finished raising my first competitive level 100 Pokemon, Timid Moonblast Ribombee. Now I'll probably try to get a decent Dhelmise

In other news, I successfully got a Buzzwole and Kartana via GTS.

i had chuckles talking to a buddy of mine who picked up Joshua Moon version, he talked about how one of the "super beasts," something he described as a wispy white cockroach lady with tremendous offensive stats but no beef at all, was getting owned by shedinja because she had like literally no moves that could hit him. it filled me with tee hees because i always enjoyed being a turd with gimmicky guys like shedinja and shuckle. anybody can act like they've got a big dick with their carchomps or their wobbuffets or their mega rayquazas, but it takes a real macho man to get work done with the more handicapped dudes.

then i felt old because i delivered a cantankerous speech about how, back in my day, mewtwo was banned and all anyone used were chansey and tauros and slowbro, and ice beam was THE BEST attack. and he was like "yeah yeah well the metagame has only gotten better since those days" and i am like "NO SHUT UP." then we looked at the new pokemans and the only ones i thought were neat were the water/poison deep sea doghouse with a hilarious move called BANEFUL BUNKER, and this roided-up rugby lemur with a bunch of fightpower and a very tactical ability that made it super goddamn dangerous in the hands of a true nerd. also a mud horse that wasn't bad. everything else had like 0 speed and maximum homosexuality, more stupid dragons and queer unbalanced deviantart legendaries that only special ed children will think are cool. i rofled at the "Type: Null" thing with a wooden bucket on its head, and then it evolves to remove the bucket and... move slightly faster. what the fuck. i never ever thought i'd call for a return to the days of trash bag and ice cream pokemon

OH YEAH BUZZWOLE, i called him "BEEF DICKTICKLER" when i first saw him, he is priceless

Which other pokes have you guys discovered to be secretly badass? Toucannon is a great physical attacker with an interesting move pool but with shit speed. My goal (besides creating the Mimikyu army) is getting a pokemon with Synchronize and Jolly and SOS chaining a shiny Pikipek to become Toucannon

Alolan Persian is a monster ingame. With technician you can get 135 power Bite right when you get is as a meowth, while Pickup can potentially yield some pretty good items early on, and later becomes Fur Coat to let you survive a physical hit pretty well.

hahahah. i actually caught my first shiny in sun, like, two days ago. i was looking for an espeon/umbreon, since they can be encountered, but only through SOS battles with eevee, and after i had yet another eevee kill itself via struggle, i was walking through the grass when i suddenly encountered a shiny grubbin. which i won't even use. because i don't give a shit about grubbin or its evolutionary line. so it'll be doomed to sit in a box.

I'm willing to trade you something for it. I got a Battle-Ready Pheromosa, with the best EVs, Nature and moveset, and IVs maxed via Hyper Training. So a Bug for a Bug

What's everyone's favorite new Pokemon? I love all of the designs and I can probably safely say that this is my favorite gen now.

My absolute favorite is Golisopod, and I really like Toucannon and the Alolan Muk. I also have to say that this is the first time that I've actually really liked my starter, and the others are really cool. I chose Litten and now I've got an extremely loyal Incineroar. I usually don't care too much for the starters but big buff kitty man is such a cutie pie.

Oh my God I love my Golisopod. Big man Ginso has saved my butt on numerous occasions, and I've even come to not really mind his ability. Emergency Exit can be useful, as I've seen in the Elite Four.

And of course, the Mudsdale I've been bragging about since I got her is by far one of my favorite teammates besides my starter (Decidueye).

Also, I replaced my Lycanroc with a Mimikyu and she has really grown on me. There's something about the little ghostie that wants to be Pikachu that I find endearing.
