Am I the only one here who doesn't nickname his pokemen?

I usually don't for competitive Pokemon I breed/soft-reset for, in-game teams I like doing it for fun. Even then Moon version is the first time I've been nicknaming things for a non-Nuzlocke game.

What the fuck is a "Nuzlocke"?

Nuzlocke is a self-imposed challange one can do in Pokemon games, that was started by a webcomic called Pokemon Hard Mode. The term nuzlocke comes from a Nuzleaf the main character had that looked like Locke from Lost. There are two main rules.

-You can only catch the first wild Pokemon you run into in each area. If you faint it, too bad you aren't getting anything found there now.
-If one of your Pokemon faints, it is considered dead and you must release it. If your whole party faints, it's a game over.

Often nuzlockes encourage you nickname all of your Pokemon to get more attached to them.

Nope, never did and never will. It just doesn't feel right IMO, especially considering how Pokemon say their default names in the anime anyway. I know I know, games are separate from the anime, still don't like it.

Okay, I got a Dhelmise via GTS, so I will change what I wanted earlier: I am willing to trade a Lunala with a Gold Bottlecap for anyone who can give me an Ability Capsule, it can be attached to anything, even Yungoose named Trump #379510

Okay, since I'm actually a bit into the game now(second island, second trial), here's my current team:

  • Maki the Torracat - I was settled on Litten from the get-go. Named after my actual cat because my starter turned out to be female.
  • Yurieko the Alohan Marowak - one of the more badass looking Aloan forms, imo.
  • Uzu the Fomantis - a praying mantis Pokémon seemed really awesome to me, so I'm eager to evolve her. The name was random, to be honest.
  • Cuddlebug the Riombee - along with being adorable as fuck, the thing actually pack a hell of a punch if used correctly. Named because it's obvious.
  • Nuzzle the Pikachu - was going to go for a Aloan Raichu, but she's basically a placeholder until I can get to where Mimikyu is.
  • Tazer the Charjabug - also a placeholder for a future catch, I mostly just want to see what it looks like fully evolved. Named because it currently looks like a tazer and is part electric.

You won't be able to evolve Tazer until the final island; just figured I'd forewarn you to that since things will be roughly in the 40 levels by that point.

And I can agree that Ribombee is actually a hell of a good special attacker. I fought a high-level one from a future trainer and the thing carried Draining Kiss, Energy Ball, and Pollen Puff (never saw the fourth move) and all of them hit pretty hard.

Something that's a total waste of time and only created to "pump something new" into the game.

I haven't even touched "IV Training" in the least. The main campaign was perfectly fine before Nuzlocke.
The main games are incredibly easy, people gotta do something to make em more fun.

Something I found out thanks to the Mareanie @SteelPlatedHeart traded me is that people are willing to give quite a few good Pokemon for one on GTS. If you need version exclusives or another Pokemon that's a pain to get like Dhelmise, breeding Mareanie en masse and putting them on GTS is the best bet to get what you want quick and easy.

Finally started.

1) Professor Surfshack is kinda annoying, I'm thinking he'll grow on me though...
2) The only Yungoos I caught was (sadly) female so I called it Mel
3) Is there any way to turn off map locations or the thing that shows me whether the type is good to use?

Yungoos are pretty common to encounter, so if you want a male you could just run around in the grass for a bit; I think the gender ratio is 50/50 so you're likely to encounter a male at some point.

And I don't believe there is a way to turn off map locations or the thing showing of type effectiveness of moves against opponents. If there is, I haven't found it anywhere in the options menu.

Makes sense. Mareanie only shows up as a rare SOS Pokémon for Corsela, which itself is a rare spawn that only shows up in two fishing spots. And it needs to be rippling water, because otherwise there's only a 1% Corsela will show up. Basically you need to use an Adrenaline Orb once you fish it up and use False Swipe/Hold Back to keep it a 1% health so it'll keep calling for help, after which you just gotta hope Mareanie eventually shows up instead of another Corsela. And that it has its unique Ability.

The one I caught was female too, so I just called it Trumpet.

Competitively, it's Hidden Ability Regenerator is usually the best bet for Defensive sets. I can only imagine the pain of trying to lure one of those out, You'd need a Poison Heal Pokemon to see if they alway get crits and a Paralysis move to make sure It's actually Regenerator and not Limber it has.

So Stun Spore Poison Heal Breloom Basically. It even gets False Swipe. Not available until Bank gets updated though.

I actually meant that you want Mareanie to have its unique ability, but what you said is very true too.

Mareanie's unique ability is called Merciless.
  • If the target is poisoned, Pokémon's attack will become critical hits, unless the Pokémon has Battle Armor or Shell Armor or is under the effects of Lucky Chant.

I'm aware of Merciless, It's just that it's primarily a Defensive Pokemon stat-wise and even with the constant crits more dedicated offensive Pokemon are better at the job of killing things with direct damage than it. Good for in-game at least

After I finish EV training it I'll be breeding and sending out 6IV adamant Mimikyus
I put it on that EV training island on Poke Pelago and I'm gonna see how that works out, I understand that SOS battles are good ways to ev train but I don't have the power items yet and I need some good pokes to earn them with BP so I am exploring the alternatives

Which other pokes have you guys discovered to be secretly badass? Toucannon is a great physical attacker with an interesting move pool but with shit speed. My goal (besides creating the Mimikyu army) is getting a pokemon with Synchronize and Jolly and SOS chaining a shiny Pikipek to become Toucannon

What is EV training? Is it important? Should we do that?

My powerhouses are smack-down Slowbro (quick claw, thunder wave, zen headbutt, water pulse, slack off) and my hunting buddy, Snorlax (normalium Z, snore, chip away, hold back, rest)

Okay, so I accidentally knocked the Wimpod on Route 8's health into the yellow and it ran away. It's been over 48 hours since that happened and I've entered and exited the route again and again via the Pokecenter and the hotel, and Wimpod still hasn't respawned. I'm getting pretty worried.
