This apparently popped up in the official VGC stream for the Bologna Special Event going on right now.

I think Kaphotics just died a little on the inside and Verlis, to the horror of everyone in the Pokémon fandom and beyond, now has a raging red rocket he plans on whipping out ASAP.
That's kinda sad. I got a terrapagos from a bot with my OT and the appropriate catch date. There are decent bots out there. All those bots in surprise trades are garbage and if he had actually paid for the Mon from one of those websites I'm pretty sure he could have got it with his OT as well. Dude literally took a generated Mon from a surprise trade and used it.

This move can't be used. It's recommended that this move is forgotten. Once forgotten, this move can't be remembered.

- one of the reasons a later game may be lame
I know it hasn't happened yet, but imagine if GF reinstates Pokemon retaining their old moveset between games after you make one of your gift Pokemon forget a special move.

Sadly, it's unlikely that they'll reinstate keeping old movesets, since they're trying VERY hard to make sure that No Guard Fissure Machamp does not happen. And it's mind-boggling how many game changes were made to prevent this:
  • Pokémon transferred from VC (the only way to get Machamp with Fissure) to Gen 7 transfers from bank will always have their Hidden Ability.
  • In the Gen 8 games, Ability Patches cannot change a Hidden Ability to a normal one.
  • Despite Ability Patches now being able to change a Hidden Ability to a Normal Ability, Machamp is not available in the Gen 9 games, and Pokémon entering S/V will get a new moveset for S/V.
I don't know how they plan to prevent this with Legends:Z/A, maybe either not including Machamp again, or not including Ability Patches in that game. Heck, I can see GF just making a clause where you can't use Ability Patches on the Machop-line specifically, although I want to know what Lore asspull they'll make to try to justify it. Or maybe they'll just get rid of OHKO moves entirely in Gen 10.

The moveset resetting also makes it easier for moves to get removed in later games outright.

Legends Arceus didn't have Abilities included except for two specific cases (fuck you Regigigas), so it could be possible that's the case in ZA as well. Which will be stupid since Abilities play a big part in what makes Mega Evolutions viable or downright broken, but we'll see.
Also it is supposed to be set in the past, so even if there are Abilities this time around, they don't even need an in-game explanation as to the lack of Ability Capsules/Patches.

Even if it did happen, it's not THE broken/amazing pokemon that people seem to think it is
  • Flying types exist
  • Levitate users exist
  • Substitute spammers can PP stall
  • There are more faster psychic and fairy types that can wreck it with a special attack.

A Lv50 Machamp holding a Choice Scarf with an optimal Nature and full IVs/EVs would have a Speed stat of 175. If we disregard the opponent Pokemon boosting their Speed via items, abilities, or moves, this is faster than the likes of Iron Treads, Urshifu, Chi-Yu, or Garchomp. With a neutral nature, the list would expand to include the likes or Ogerpon, Iron Moth, Iron Valiant, Roaring Moon, Sneasler, and so forth. So a decent chunk of Pokemon would get kneecapped because they either can't outrun Max Speed Machamp, or can't beat him in a single blow (compounded by the fact that Machamp can distribute its remaining 258 EVs into defensive stats).
Another issue is because of Scarf Fissure Machamp even existing, this means players must not only include at least one Pokemon in their team to take him out, they would also need to have that Pokemon ready when the big muscle man rushes out to sweep your party.
Yes, I said party, which leads to the third issue being the opponent Machamp would also be in a party, most definitely flanked by two Pokemon to deal with any threats so Machamp can drop Pokemon in chasms with no interruptions.
The whole situation would be like the Gen V metagame where any Pokemon slower than Breloom had no place to even start.
TLDR - Just because there are ways to deal with the Machamp, doesn't mean he isn't broken enough to not get kneecapped.

Edit: fatfingered the reply button too early

Is it true the latest Pokemon games fucked with the design of Nurse Joey to be less feminine? Is nothing sacred?

I just had a run of Pokémon Y after ~10 years of not playing any Generation VI content, only to then start a new X save. I know people in this thread see it as the point where the rot really set in, but man do I continue to love the games. Through and through a chill experience, just what I needed after busy days at work. If Team Flare and Gym fights were a little less easy, and if E4 had 5 Pokémon in their teams at least, IMO this would fix the difficulty issue.

I like Oddish.

Look at it, it's so adorable.
What a cute 'mon!

I keep seeing Oddish succulent pots being sold by a local vendor at various farmer's markets and vendor events and I'm always tempted to buy one.

I'll snap a photo next time I see it and the thread can decide if I buy it for my office or not.

The Pokémon North American International Championship (NAIC for short) is happening right now, here are some free codes.

SV:
NA1CTR1CKR00M - A Porygon2 based off of the one used by Nils Dunlop at EUIC earlier this year. This code expires on June 10th.

TCG Live:
TealDanceNAIC24 - 1 digital copy of an Secret Illustrator Rare Teal Mask Ogerpon ex. This code expires on June 17th.

Unrelated to NAIC, SV also has two events co-running this weekend. We're getting a rerun of the 7-Star Tera Raids (featuring a Poison Tera Type Swampert) that happened last week, a rerun of the Tera Raid Blisseys, and a Mass Outbreak event featuring Water Pokémon (Finizen for Paldea, Lotad for Kitakami, and Horsea for the Terarium) with a 5% chance of having the Kindly Mark.

Also unrelated to NAIC, The Pokémon TCG Live is running its 1st Anniversary Summer Bash event and, as expected, it's kind of shitty.

EDIT: Forgot to add the expiration dates for the codes.

stuff lacking in newer games:
  • Snorlax lying down almost all the time (like in Stadium)
  • Honchkrow fedora tipping

Shower thought:

Do people spay/neuter their Pokémon if they're raised as pets?

Maybe the existence of the No Eggs Discovered egg group means that spaying/neutering is a thing? Or does that egg group exist solely as a game mechanic to prevent people from breeding Legendaries and Mythicals, and has nothing to do with biology?

Back to the games itself, did ILCA/TPC give a reason why GTS trades on HOME do not trigger trade evolutions, like how they did back when the GTS was in the actual games?
