Steam Charst numbers for Palworld currently, I wonder how the people at Nintendo and Game Freak are reacting.

Calling it now - Game Freak is taking notice on Palworld’s success, but is going to take all the wrong lessons from it and apply them to Gen 10,

And I’m all for the train wreck.

Keep in mind this assumes Game Freak even acknowledges Palworld/the bullshit about Palworld on X existing. They’re Japanese, so legitimately 50/50 odds…

So, you know those Salt Factory videos I linked a few pages back evaluating the stories in those games? Well, I watched them again. I never thought about how these games are written or how their stories compare to one another before, but good fucking lord, are they even worse than I remember them. I mean, GameFreak have been at it for 30 years now, almost, and if you took all the good story bits, ideas and characters together from every single game, you would have maybe 1 really good title or maybe even 0.75 of one. These games survived solely due to gameplay loop, character designs and sheer merchandise they sell alone, because holy fuck are the stories and dialogue bad when you look deeper into them.

You might say "no shit", but you don't really think about that when you actually play the game, you focus on the next gym or trying to catch/train your Pokemon, whatever. The next story segment or evil team encounter is kind of like having story in a porno: it's just there because it has to be there but nobody expects it to be good. Why CAN'T it be good? Just because the games are made for kids doesn't mean they can just be low effort garbage, kids can enjoy things too.

I know Gamefreak are hacks and that nobody is really going to argue with me on this, but I just hope that the newfound success of Palworld might mean that people start looking at Pokemon in a more critical light and start asking the same questions. I mean, what was the budget and manpower behind that game, vs the latest Pokemon game? With the army of cocksuckers and consoomers Pokemon has, I doubt anything will change, but I do want people to start noticing and questioning. You might say that's impossible, but the latest COD game bombed, IGN gave it a 4.0 and I've seen it get shit on universally. It's late January and the game has been dead for months, it only came out in early November, this might be the first time that ever happened before. Resident Evil 4 remake was bombarded too, altho not nearly as much and I wouldn't say that was an awful game, just inferior to the original and one whose existence is entirely pointless and redundant. Point is that your average gamer is starting to get tired of all the slop and I hope Pokemon is the next triple A title in the barrel, so to speak

@30+GameOvers Can't reply for some reason, but regarding the average gamer getting tired of the slop, I think it's more the average gamer is moving away from gaming. The nerd boom feels like it's on it's last legs, which may be pure copium, but it really does seem like, more and more, games don't get the amount of reddit-esqe dick-slobberers they used to just a few years ago.

Recently, it almost, ALMOST feels like the glory days of the early aughts, where we all laughed at faggots like Jack Thompson (God, I never thought I'd miss him), and just enjoy games. Paired with the fact more and more 'major devs' seem to be coming to the conclusion that games just aren't worth it, and laying off massive swaths of DIE award winners...

Like I said, massive copium, but maybe people are doing the normal autist thing of taking a meme seriously, and starting to go the fuck outside, and leave us loser nerds the fuck alone.

@30+GameOvers
I’d argue that most of the stories in them are actually fine for the target audiance. Saturday Morning cartoons for 5 year olds.

In fact I’d argue it’s only XY and SWSH that have bad stories. And thise are the games that were obviously not finished.

But yeah, it’s not a surprise that in a game the thing people care most about is the gameplay.

DP lore and story for instance is beyond cool but the gameplay wasn’t so I dislike those games

This is your friendly reminder that The Big Bang Theory was one of, if not the worst things to ever happen to Nerd Culture. Between it and the Comic Movie Boom, the floodgates were opened and Nerd Culture died a death.

This Boom dying off is welcome.

I’m going to keep saying it - people seem to forget that, at its core, Pokémon is a franchise intended for children - children don’t exactly give a shit about quality.

The Autists and Furries that also gobble this shit up are probably just Bonus Points as far as Game Freak is concerned. I’m not giving Game Freak a Pass, but we all need the occasional reminder.

Depending on the length of the post you can’t reply to it.

The nerds that caused the boom are growing older and the new gen of nerds is just not the same as it was

I mean with the coof now over…yeah.

It’s not even like the stories aren’t quality. They are just told in a way the target audiance can understand. And if the content creators when they go back and replay games constantly going ‘they got that in?’ etc tells me anything it is even if the story has deeper stuff, the child was not paying attention.

If anything the story being bad even by that standard tells you there was probably bigger issues with the game that they did not finish.

They are.

So got Gale of Darkness out to puck up the stuff I need for Emerald and the fuck did the mean by ‘experience the extra dimension?’

Are you ready for your daily dose of autism? Here is a technical explanation behind some obscure Pokemon glitches
If you're into this sort of thing, I heavily recommend the rest of his videos. This dude singlehandedly made the Gen 2 Game Corner music be associated with technical autism and breaking a game into a thousand little pieces for me, just like Super Mario 64 file select theme

It's funny you say this as I was planning on asking for any Pokémon-related YouTuber suggestions. (I was going to ask yesterday but KF was fucking up.)

The story can't be good for the same reason the games can't have good graphics: Game Freak doesn't know how to do it. Whenever they try to focus more on the story like with Gens 5, 7 and 9 the result is always never-ending text boxes and cutscenes. Game Freak doesn't know how to tell a story without infodumping it through annoying amounts of text that get in the way of the gameplay.

Does Palworld have a Japanese following? If not, I can't see Game Freak caring, eastern devs don't seem to be very concerned with what the west finds popular. Yokai Watch scared them in part because it was also Japanese. Not to mention that despite their (lack of) quality, Gens 8 and 9 were financial successes, they outsold every generation except Gen 1:

About Palworld specifically, I'm still skeptical after Temtem. It's getting a lot of attention now but will it be able to keep its playerbase once the novelty of 'Pokemon but with guns' wears off? Maybe it'll succeed as it's trying a different genre, but much like Temtem it won't survive for long if its playerbase is made up of pissed Pokemon fans looking to stick it to Game Freak, those people will drop Palworld for the next Pokemon game once it comes out.

I just watched this video and the Mystery Dungeon part is actual creepypasta material.

I wouldn't have taken a second look at Palworld, but now that it's pissing people off I might have to check it out. Is it a single player game at its base, or is it dedicated multiplayer?
Default settings is balanced around at the absolute minimum 2 players. But the game comes with completely customizable world settings, so you can just increase the damage you do/increase drop rates to make it a proper singleplayer game. Or you could play it on default solo because you're a brain addled autist like me.
