Pokemon works best with a structured map with a little wiggle room like in Kanto and Johto.
personally I think Sinnoh and Hoenn do this much better (they have less issues with levelling, and Hoenn especially has this gorgeous spiral outwards from Littleroot that makes travelling always feel very fulfilling and keeps backtracking feasible and fun), but I otherwise wholly agree
I understand the appeal of the open world, and I'd love to see the concept done justice, but I don't think I'd ever prefer even a good open world to more linear structure with more wiggle room.
I just kept quiet about that when it was discussed pre-gen 9 because bringing it up whenever people discussed how linear Alola or Galar were was like asking for someone to yell at you about how shit gen 1 was or how linearity was always bad because Unova was a circle.
/vp/ sucks so much man. Glad this thread exists so there's at least one other place to discuss this franchise without the discussion being primarily made up of bugmen who buy thousands of dollars worth of TCG stuff well into their mid-30s.

I don't think I've ever had a more unpleasant experience in a videogame than trying to do Iron Leaves Tera Raids.

It's so fucking laggy, shit will just happen for seemingly no reason.

No, once you move Pokemon from the VC games, they cannot be moved back. Technically speaking, when you move them from those games, they are being converted to completely new Pokemon entirely because the data structures of gen 1-2 and 3+ are entirely different.

I would imagine it's not impossible to write an algorithm or script that could allow for it to work, but I'm fairly certain GF made it the way it is to avoid as many points of potential data corruption as they could.

Buuuuuut, it is GF, so they could just be lazy assholes.
So in other words, I'm fucked if I want to get a Meowth to play in Red or Yellow and double fucked in that I can not ge ANY of the trade evolutions in the VC versions of the Gen 1/2 games?

Without a second 3DS, sadly, yes.
I've seen evidence of flash carts and stuff being able to actually trade with legit games and even up to Home, so I would assume a modded 3DS with a VC game could circumvent this issue even when the eShop is gone.

The Mew glitch can also circumvent being unable to obtain certain Pokemon in the Gen 1 games, but anything involving any kind of storage or trading would require another console.

I managed to boost my Shiny count in Scarlet recently,,,
  • A third Shiny Hoppip
  • Shiny Iron Treads (obtained via Surprise Trade and it’s not one of those shitty injection site advert ‘mons)
  • Shiny Tatsugiri (Droopy Form)
  • Shiny Dratini
  • Shiny Altaria (from a Tera Raid Den)
The Shiny Iron Treads was a major shocker to me and the Altaria was a first for me.
I sold my soul to Funko Pop today.

The Pokémon POPs are some of the more aggravating items I've had to deal in terms of explaining shit to people, in this case it's explaining how licensing works. And yes, it's because a lot of these people think that Nintendo signed off on 'em (it's actually TPCi's doing) and that means other Nintendo IPs are on the negotiating table.

Oh, and there will be POPs that are exclusive to the US, Canada, and UK Pokémon Centers coming soon. There are theories that they’ll be Shiny considering the wording on the site’s adverts.

Bit of a PSA for Scarlet/Violet.

There seems to be some data corruption issue with either the GO connectivity or DLC which can result in a lost save file. If you have used the Go connectivity or downloaded the pre-order DLC, I would recommend not playing your main profile until it has been patched. According to Reddit (yeah, I know), while it's only occured for a small number of people, it seems more common than it should be (around 1% of user have experienced it from their data set). Utterly embarrassing GF. Nintendo eventually gave in to save backups for Animal Crossing because of shit like this, get with the fucking times GF. Worrying about "cloning" or "exploits" is a bullshit excuse when it's already so easy to hack the Switch, it's quite rediculous for me to be actually considering jailbreaking my Switch just to have the means to backup my save file.

Oh but if it's a duplication bug, you assholes are on that shit fast. Utterly clownish.

In other news, Smogon is already having talks regarding banning Walking Wake from OU. I saw that shit coming the second I caught one and saw what it can do. It's a real mystery why I don't play Showdown, I gotta say.

The new look of the new Pokémon anime has been released, with a different main characters since Ash Ketchup has finally become a Pokémon master after all these years. Honestly I’m shocked they kept him
around for so long the anime itself is of obviously wildly varying quality but even so I wish they had made some attempt to have a new protagonist for each arc as the characters age up.

I really wanted each arc to have a new protagonist with pikachu being there somehow - since game mascot, and each arc we get an episode with ash in it to update us on how each retard is doing.

Just so it'd feel like the entire brand wasnt stagnating. But whatever it's a bit too late for any of this now anyways.

I'm just wondering what the story significance of shiny Rayquaza is going to be.

Does this bug have anything to do with the issue that a few players had with Sword and Shield bricking Nintendo Switches on launch? And does the issue have anything to do with ExFAT-formatted SD cards getting corrupted (Homebrew sites recommend to use FAT32-formatted SD cards, since Nintendo's ExFAT drivers suck), even though game saves are stored on the Switch's internal storage.

No further info at the moment, but I will definitely post an update if I find out anything more. Likely going to have to wait until a data miner can figure out exactly what's going on.

With the stupid way Iron Leaves and Walking Wake were released I ended up using the 7-day Nintendo Switch Online trial so I could get Walking Wake and I experienced first hand how retarded randos are in tera raid battles. Walking wake actually went ok, did it first try myself using Miriadon and 2 of the randos using Iron Hands for some great synergy with electric terrain, but we still almost ran out of time. Iron Leaves, however... I probably should have done it solo with NPCs. It took like 20 tries because retards were bringing in pokemon weak to psychic and literally died every turn. I was using Kingambit with shell bell, a fucking sensible choice resistant to all it's attacks, and in 90% of attempts I was the only one who ever reached terastilization after which the raid quickly ended due to multiple retard faints. Eventually I got into a raid with 3 Kingambits and only one retard and we still barley made it.

I also decided I might as well use my 7 days to fill out the Pokedex with exclusives since who knows when Home comparability will show up which went ok since I found a guy whom traded 1 for 1 almost every exclusive... but not the fire tauros. Oh boy, is fire tauros the rarest pokemon in existence? I went through like 150 random trades where I would offer water tauros which surely is obvious code for version swap. 50% of all trades were people doing shiny Pokemon which is stupid because I would not trust random trading those to not be hacked. In rare cases people would show me their own water tauros which I can respect as showing me they are also on Violet. In the end, checking tera raids every 3 trades (how fucking retarded is that 2 minute or so wait to refresh tera raids?) for fire tauros one eventually popped up which thank god wasn't thrown by retards. You would think that eventually someone who didn't need the swap would have at least taken pity on me and shown one, but nope.

TL;DR Pokemon SVs online features are full of retards.

this is what we get for brushing the Sword and Shield data corruptions as a memory card issue and not a Gamefreak programming issue

Huh, i'm intrigued. Not really, of course- I don't watch anime, and I'm still not a fan of this whole idea (not only is it far too late to retire Ash Ketchum for the sake of semi-decent storytelling potential. but those character designs look very bland to me and I'm not enough of a fan of gen 9's designs to ever want to see them in anime form), but with the weird emphasis on a Shiny Rayquaza, this mysterious pokeball, and the pendant, I'm very interested in what this all means for the worldbuilding and the main series as a whole. Something tells me it's something big- the amulet might relate to Terapagos and the rumored special Terastal forms coming in the DLC, the pokeball might relate to old Pokemon history of which we know nothing about...

I'm beyond disinterested in the obligatory Charizard and Pikachu shill-insert, even if he's probably the best character design out of the three, but he's got a cool uncle vibe going on that could really lift the mood if pulled off well. I hope he is.

Also, according to people who actually watch anime, the writing staff looks promising. So maybe this anime series will actually be decent after all! :optimistic:

I've complained about this twice before in the thread. It's obvious that Gamefreaks hand holding approach for multiple gens now has not taught the average knuckle dragging player the type charts. Even having the "super effective, effective, not very effective, etc." Under the moves themselves in battles still hasn't beat the game mechanics into retards heads. The general player base are idiots and its terrible that some game content is locked behind having to play cooperatively.

A wild thought, maybe if your rival picked the Pokémon that's strong against yours and its AI was cranked to 11 to smack you in the face with super effective moves maybe the player base would get the hint. But here we are, your rival is a frenemy who picks whats weak to you and the whole game babies you so you never learn.

I finally got a hacked Pokémon from Surprise Trading away breeding leftovers, this time it was a Shiny 6 IV Italian Ditto holding a Master Ball.

AFAICT people don't trade the other Tauros forms away all to often due to them being kind of difficult to find and not really being necessary for Dex completion.

> mindlessly rush out to buy game day 1
> defend the game no matter what
> put down any criticism as hating
> NOOO MY HARD EARNED DATA HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN

lol

They're not  that hard to find. Just eat a water or fire type encounter sandwich depending on the game and it doesn't take long. Random encounter shiny hunting it would be a nightmare though since it appears in a pack of regular Tauros. It's one of those few Pokemon that are best shiny hunted via Masuda Method.

>/pmdg/ has finally lost it and started (another) hardcore isekai larp
now i'm curious
have you guys seen a spike in autism after the Presents? I know I saw a lot of people seething at how underwhelming it was myself included but i've also seen an odd parallel of people just falling further down the rabbit hole and getting even more invested in the franchise despite outwardly stating they dislike it.
Is the entire fanbase losing its individual minds or am I just way too deep into the weirder corners of it?

I dunno, but can you share some caps? That sounds hilarious.
