In unrelated news, someone on Twitter is making ancestry trees for some of the pokemon:
...But why? We already have a common ancestor for all Pokémon.

Super Beard Bros' Nuzlocke still physically hurts to watch, it's just so brutal.

Replaying Gen 6 over the weekend made me realize just how much wasted potential Gen 6 had. Probably my favourite regions aesthetic wise. I also liked how you could have a job. I wish the mainline games would further expand on the role-playing elements. I mean, its fine being a standard trainer and all, but it would nice to be so much more.

Crazy to think that next year will be the 10 year anniversary.
Case in point: BDSP are the best selling Pokemon remakes.
Yeah, and each set of remakes outsold the previous ones (i.e - ORAS beat HG/SS and so on). Despite all criticism, Sword & Shield have outsold the mainline games for every Pokemon generation except for Gen 1.

In Pokemon Unite news, the game recently received an update that made Espeon a playable character. However, it's inclusion has caused ranked matches to Desync like crazy among other things.

You could say that Espeon torn the fabric of reality asunder.

Edit: As it turns out, Greninja was the culprit.

So Dexit isn't going away? gen 8 is officially worse than 3.
Unpopular opinion time - I didn't mind Dexit, and honestly am more surprised it took this long for it to happen.

Did a lot of peoples favorites get cut along with some of the dead weight/totally not reskin Pokémon, yeah. Is it mostly just a tactic to get people to shell out for the DLC's, probably also yeah. The reason I'm alright with it is that we're officially over 900 Pokémon with the new ones Legends added, and I'd assume Gen 9 we'll likely break 1000 between new Pokémon and regional variants of older Pokémon. Sure, most of the models Gamefreak uses are low poly, but at a certain point it becomes a storage issue to keep all those models in storage - this is the one time I'm not even annoyed at the competitive Pokémon players, because their autism usually has them limited to a handful of Pokémon that Smogon deems viable anyway.

I get that for a lot of people. they've been using their favorite 'mon's for well over a decade at this point, but eventually something had to give.

One of the more resounding complaints I heard about dexit was that people were being forced to leave behind beloved mons from ancient Gens they had carried all the way to Home, but I'll be real with you: 99.9% of the stuff I have in Bank and Home is complete trash that will never see the light of day again. I can understand being upset that you couldn't bring your high quality Deoxys or Arceus into the latest rounds of cart competitions, but man, that list of dexited deadbeats is brimming with absolutely worthless mons. I'd be damned giving up space on the cart so Furfrou and Mightyena and Kricketot can have updated models, nor do I think we need to bring 11 different Normal/Flying shitbirds with us into every single game just because they existed at some point. Preserve them in amber and leave them in the past where they belong. Or recreate them in Showdown if you're insistent on competing; Gen 8 National Dex OU is extremely popular.

If they would at least guarantee all gen 1 Pokemon spots in every game that'd satisfy me. I'm not going to lose sleep over a random gen 6 Pokemon missing.

I haven't touched a pokemon game since Gen 5, but I'll say this. I legit believe 98% of people that browse and are regulars on /vp/ are on some form of a sexual predator list.

Honestly I stopped giving a shit about dexit ages ago. Dexit sucks but the slapfights and freak outs between bbnd and the Gamefreak shills sometimes makes me feel the fandom deserved it.

I guess most of those fans needed some realisation that, just because some of their favourite (or even all time favourite) mons aren't in the newest games, doesn't mean they don't exist anymore, you can go back with any previous Pokémon game and find them there, safely programmed with no harmful sign of being removed from a past main series game.

There are a lot of Pokémon now, it sucks for a small amount of people in the fanbase like national dex collectors, shiny hunters or old time players with legacy Pokémon they always transfer over, but most of them that still care about this issue are a very small vocal minority, most people have well and truly moved on. I don't really pay too much attention to GAYmer community shit these days, but most people who outcried about dexit stopped caring within a few weeks after sword and shields release, because not only couldn't they stop other people from having fun, but they themselves couldn't stay mad forever if they still wanted to play Pokéman games, the manchild (okay I'll be nicer for some, the "nostalgia") force is just too strong for some.

Little off topic but I think the quarantine period in 2020 and 2021 kinda changed people's perception about these things a little bit. Generally it seems like more people realised there just isn't enough time in the world to go on a pop-culture crusader boycott for something that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, it's too mentally draining and quite frankly less people started giving a damn if something annoyed or irritated them, as long as they could shut their brain off and escape from the reality of the unfair shit world people live in, that was all people wanted. (I saw the anime community come to the same conclusion as degenerates and normie anime fans happily got their fix throughout 2020 and beyond as it was the light at the end of the tunnel for a lot of people, there wasn't really a lot of anime that would cause mainstream drama anymore, and if it did it flew under the radar very quickly because of just how much the news cycle changed things for people).

Unless you know, you're a blue check mark twitter user or someone with a inferiority complex projecting your problems onto other people you disagree with, you'll find these sad sack of shits on the many many threads here on the farms.

I think another factor in this is that, well, a lot of pokemon inspired fangames and other mon games have been coming out during and around the lockdown. and they're in various states... which peak at "good but still not a perfect substitute for people craving pokemon" (Nexomon Extinction, Monster Sanctuary) and go as far down as "the main character's sprite is misaligned with the grid every other character is on" (Monster Crown).

These drew away the crowds into sniping at the pokemon fandom from a distance... and then demoralised them when it turns out the not-Pokemon don't seem to scratch the Pokemon itch. Pokemon-as-an-mmo (temtem) seems to consistently pick the worst parts of it's constituents and ends up less interactive than dark souls ghosts. Pokemon-but-half-the-types-are-attack-only (coromon) is just lame and it's equivalent of ivs and evs encourages players to grind themselves silly.

The simple truth is that the Pokemon formula, monster design philosophy, and so on is damn near the best possible version of a Mon Game for most people (you're free to believe that they stumbled blindly into this by accident), and attempting to fuck with that formula nearly always results in a weaker game. To say nothing of the fact that someone who left because of Dexit will struggle to find a game that has even half of SwSh's base mon count.

Actually, I know it's a doublepost but controversial opinion time (at least, controversial to people making indie mon games). Front lining the training and genetics equivalent in your game and making them obvious from the start makes your game worse, not better. You can (or at least should) be able to get through the main game on good strategy and general level alone, and then later give players options to max out their mons from the campaign. If you let people, they will game the fun out of it, and get obsessed with grinding up a "good" version of everything instead of progressing through the game. They'll get disappointed by a mon that could have become their best buddy because they're relatively underpowered compared to the platonic ideal of that mon.

Also as I’ve stated before the monster taming community hypes the shit out of upcoming monster games right before they come out only to drop them a month later. Currently the only monster game people are hyped about is Digimon Survive. Ironically Digimon in general is the only monster taming game series that gets any regular discussion but that’s due to the popularity of Cyber Sleuth and the fandom obnoxiously shoving the game in everyone’s faces to play instead of Pokemon. They also get super insufferable with their worship of their current director of the games.

Another interesting note- On Twitter I caught one of the indie devs of a monster taming game following a fan who literally spent their days violently defending loli and posting underage furry porn in between skitzo rants about how the Pokemon fandom is killing other games in the genre. The fan eventually got suspended on Twitter but it still left a bad taste in my mouth.

Huh, don’t usually get a chance to bring up/sperg about Digimon, so I guess I’m doing this…

Admittedly I’m in the camp excited for Digimon Survive, but I’ve been waiting on that game to come out for literal years now - I’m keeping my expectations low, considering the state of Modern Vidya, but it hits that childhood nostalgia for me.
It’s also telling that Cyber Sleuth and it’s sequel completely overshadowed the Digimon World game we had on PS4 - it was a grindy bitch of a game, and it would kick your ass if you gave it the chance, but I had fun with it, even if it’s dub was… honestly kinda meh.
They also get super insufferable with their worship of their current director of the games.
I had it saved at one point, but a lot of that I think is attributed to an interview where the Games Director made a comment about how “the series has matured along side its fans” or some shit like that. Which I get it, most of the people who’d shell out money for the series were kids during it’s first run of popularity, but of course speds latched onto that quote and compared it to Masuda saying something about trying to keep kids attention - I’m forgetting the exact wording of both quotes and honestly can’t be assed to try and find them atm, will see if I can dig it up later.

Yeah I’m hyped for Survive too. Just hope it was worth waiting so long for it, Though I’ve seen some fans panicking and acting like doomers that the gaming side of the franchise is going to die if it doesn’t succeed. There’s also a bit of salt on Twitter over Xenoblade 3 coming out on the same day and some fans are going around telling people they should buy Survive instead of it.

Honestly, as long as the game isn’t complete dogshit, I’ll be alright with it. I’ve been burnt enough times on games I want to be hyped for, so the bars honestly low enough at this point.

Also the Twitter Salt is hilarious - I like Digimon, hell I play it’s TCG, but it’s still a niche series, especially when compared to the near domination Pokémon has in the genre. Xenoblade 3 will likely outsell it, but so what - if I know one thing about Japanese Business, it’s that they tend to view the market outside of Japan as Bonus Points. The only way this - hell, any -game would bomb hard enough to kill a franchise is if they decided to be retards and release it in Japan on the same day as a Main Line Dragon Quest title, with how those days might as well be National Holidays…

The only reason why I hold Dexit against them is because they kept lying about it until the last possible second, and then they lied some more. If they were upfront about it and explained themselves better, it probably wouldn't have been such a big deal (though some people were always going to be mad about it). Like you said, with so many designs at some point you have to face reality.
