After 18 years, I finally got a Jirachi onto my Ruby version since my brothers borrowed their friend's bonus disk.

And then I find out you can only get one Jirachi per save file. And multiple Jirachis have many different Berries.

Fuck.

I rarely ever start over my save files due to the attachment I have with them. It was sad enough Gold and Silver's batteries died which meant my near-completed PokéDex was all for naught. My Ruby version is so old, it couldn't even fix the Berry Glitch, but it'd still be great to get a Shiny, at the very least.

I could just suck it up and buy myself a Sapphire version for the sole purpose of doing this one Shiny hunt and just send the Jirachis into my SoulSilver to harvest the Berries 'til I get the Shiny. Sounds like fun, I can do that.

what the fuck

Oh wait, that's with the box included. Can just get the cartridges themselves for reasonable prices anywhere. They just... label them weird on Amazon. Huh.
I was annoyed that the Jirachi bonus disc didnt work with Emerald, but luckily I already had a game link cable and an extra GBA lying around so it wasn't much of an issue

Similarly, for Pokemon Box: Ruby and Sapphire for the same system, you could only play Ruby and Sapphire on your TV with it(the storage function worked with all five GBA games, though). I think in the case of both Gamecube discs they didn't future-proof them to be fully compatible with any post Ruby/Sapphire GBA titles.

Ruby and sapphire was I feel always the final part of the classic era of Pokemon, it feels like the last game where all the designs were really trying to be as creative and original as possible, trying to really balance the combo of cute and cool that is so hard to get right in such simple designs. After that they double down on making so many of them uninspired, edgy or too complex pokemon designs with many Just coming across as ugly and gimmick after gimmicky new game design. It’s a shame that’s were the core formula design peaked but maybe one day they can recapture it, it’s not going away anytime soon.

Can you give any specific examples? As a fellow Gen 3 appreciator, I hear all the time how the new mons are shit and the old ones were better. I don't personally mind the new mons but I'd like to hear a detailed explanation from a different opinion.

Is it explicitly stated how far into the past Legends is set? I keep thinking it’s based off late Tokugawa/early Meiji, considering that big building in Jubilife village is based off the Sapporo Clock Tower iirc.

So I was hunting pokemons on the Space-time distortions at Obsidians field (the first area)
I noticed that there’s a normal sneasel and normal Alpha Weavile
So possible different forms?

Considering the game references some obscure Japanese encyclopedia about how Pokémon can naturally shrink, it could reasonably be between the 16th and 19th century, early 20th if pushing it
I Think Mid Meiji personally but I don't know too much about japanese history to compare

yes sneasel and vuplix have both alt and regular forms in the game, not sure if it any others are as well

It’s the western-looking buildings and some of the outfits that makes me think the setting isn’t nearly as ancient as people are suggesting, but I’m a pedantic asshole so I’m probably the only person bugged by people who think it’s taking place in the distant past.

Not really. Imo, that's still maintained in the later games. To give a few examples: Deino line, Misdrevus line and Drifloon line. The only thing that has changed were the artist.

Let's not pretend that gens 1-3 didn't have their fair share of mons these complaints could be applied to.

Uninspired? From gen 3 we have Plusle and Minun (the red and blue pika-clone), Mightyena (mean black dog), Manectric (Electric dog), wurmple (another caterpillar to butterfly/moth line).

Edgy? Almost every ghost type. Especially Banette.

Too complex? This one I don't agree with for any pokemon that isn't a legendary. To be frank with you, I feel like it's just code for "I don't like the design" which is a fine thing to say.

Yeah, no earlier than the latter-half of the Meiji period if I have to venture a guess. They're using Apricorn PokéBalls which was still a thing from when Professor Oak was a kid (if you take Pokémon 4Ever into account), in which I'm inclined to believe helps further prove the Sinjoh Ruins connected Sinnoh and Johto, and it was Johto who invented the original concept of PokéBalls.

All I need to know is if best ghost Dusclops has made it in. This is based off of Sinnoh, right? I see most of the Sinnoh evos like Gallade and Frosslass are in does that mean Dusknoir is too? It's the only spoiler I absolutely need to know!

Does anyone know any legitimately good ROM hacks? I'm looking for something to keep me busy while I wait for PLA.
If you want something a little different then how about Firered: Rocket Edition? It has a really good story and you can even steal pokemon from other trainers!

You really shouldn't take anything from the anime to figure stuff out in the games, they are pretty different continuities that are not canon to each-other. Not to mention the pokeballs in that movie were obviously metal, had a knob to open them, could not be thrown, and overall look very different from the pokeballs in Legends.

Another year, another shit game
I think its time you faggots apologize to the spinoffs

Pokémon Clover is arguably the best GBA romhack to date, but if you don’t like using a dex full of fakemon then it’s hard to recommend. I love it to death though.

Flora Sky is literally just the plot of Emerald but with a larger, more expansive region map. If you really just wanna play through a game for exploration’s sake, it’s fine.

Dark Energy is a Silver hack whose dev has more or less abandoned the project for a decade it’s but still really fun for what is there. It’s a much more plot-driven game than most hacks, but since it’s not finished you never really get to see the story pay off. One of the cooler features was a battle simulation you can use on the second floor of pokecenters for easy grinding and win BP for it as a result. There’s a lot of neat little features added in that just straight up aren’t there in the original games.

Liquid Crystal is for people who just want an open world Gen 2 with a dozen different starter options. Tons of replay value if you just wanna experiment.

I didn’t count any Kaizo hacks since those are technically mods. There’s probably more good hacks out there but these are just the ones I’ve played within the past couple years. A lot of them have cringe plots and bullshit level curves for the sake of artificially ramping up difficulty, if they’re even complete at all.

Yeah, but PokéBalls as we know them are a more recent production line according to lore, which suggests that when Oak was a kid (he and Kurt are probablythe same age), they were still Apricorn PokéBalls, or another steampunk version like Magearna's design suggests.

BTW, heard that releasing mons actually has more of an incentive now, which considering the amount you catch is a pretty smart move to do

Pretty sure I saw Dusknoir in the wild, so yes
also an fyi, if a pokemon line is in then usually it's evolutions and pre evos are as well, not the case for alt forms tho in this game aside from a few exceptions

Yeah, the Duskull line is in. For anyone interested, here's a full list of pokemon in Legends:
