They should have just stuck to making spinoffs between mainline releases
Whats the last pokemon spinoff that wasn't fucking gacha/chink pandering
Pokepark and pokken?
Man I wish they'd make a PokePark 3. The novelty of moving a Pokemon in 3D isn't really met by any other spin-off besides Pokken like you said, but that's still restricted to arena battling.

There was that Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team remake that came out last year, if that counts.

We have now reached Generation XVI of Pokémon...

"Well, the game's story is totally non-existent. I think they added like 10 new Pokémon, and not including the starters, that means only 1... There are also no cool mini games, and battles are so streamlined, I swear the game plays itself at times...

But golly, the shiny odds are 1/1500! Can't forget about the 30 new methods to find shinies now, and the existing ones from past generations are improved!"

Are we heading towards Shiny Hunting Simulator?
Aren’t you just describing Pokémon GO with extra steps?

I've said for a long time the last remake should of been Ruby Sapphire. It still had some fundamental mechanical differences sorted out in Gen 4. The core mechanics of the game has changed very little since then.

I really want to revisit a region. Being able to go back to Kanto in Gen2 was amazing as a kid, even if it's a little light in content. BW2 was rather hated in it's time, but I think it had the right idea, just released too soon after BW. Had BW2 just been released in this remake style, I think it'd be an enormous hit.

I want to replay gen 4 and 5 but there's no way to trade between emulators is there?
There's MelonDS which can trade both locally between emulators as well as via private GTS servers. Poke Transfer Lab ( Gen 4 to Gen 5) also works. I've used it to trade in Platinum, HG/SS and BW1/2. You just need to fiddle a bit with settings to trade locally, but it's rather easy and there's plenty of guides for it too.

With a bit of trial and error I've also been able to do Funfest Missions in BW2 over local wifi, but that one's still quite unstable.

The pokemon series was heading in a good direction during 5th gen. Now look at the series, all the remakes that used to be phenomenal and were the definitive versions are now half-assed, and BD and SP take the cake. How are you able to make a remake look worse than a dated ds game locked at 30fps with no anti aliasing. Gamefreak is just a company that is out to please its share holders now, they don't make games anymore just products.
Yeah but the remake was made by ILCA not Gamefreak but I think they still have the same problem like Gamefreak with their games since they need to release it for the corresponding anime, tcg and other merchandise.
I will get hate for this for being a boomer but the series absolutely peaked with B/W2, maybe even earlier. I loved the spritework and the extra shit in those games. XY barely had any content, Sun/Moon were a bit better, I liked some of the designs at least and it did try something new I guess which is worth giving credit. Sword/Shield was just bad.

With each game they make it easier to hunt shinies and breed a team of competitive pokemon but thats it. The games prior to XY had fun single player content. I know lots of people hate gen 5 so ill get dislikes/disagreements here. The routes are such a joke in SH/SW too, jesus christ just straight lines with a few diverging paths for items. The new games just steamroll you on a path to endgame which is just breeding/shiny hunting. My favorite part of that game was the final gym leader. Guzma was cool too in the previous gen.

I want to replay gen 4 and 5 but there's no way to trade between emulators is there? Wish someone would make hacks of the older games where you didn't have to do trade evolutions.
Not really alot of people says that the 5 gen are last peak of pokemon or even HGSS it happen since lot of kids grew with those games.
Hell, instead of "dragon energy", Regidraco could've been made out of fossils.
Those "dragon energy" means stuff like the dragon gem that buff a dragon move in gen 5.
Edit:
Also I found this don't know if its the whole ILCA team.

You forgot the added Charizard forms.

You know what I find mildly annoying?

All these people who stan SwSh used to constantly whine about gen 4 and Sinnoh fans as well as complain about the DPPT games and the region itself in general. They’d even go as far as to bash the games out of sheer spite. Now? They’re all suddenly Sinnoh fans because of BDSP and get angry at anyone who criticizes these remakes. I hate to sound like a hipster gate keeper but the hypocrisy of fans who complained about DS era stans only to stan a modern remake version of their games just makes my opinion of the 3D era fanbase go down even further.

3D was the greatest tragedy to ever grace this franchise. So much wrong came from it.

To be fair if the series didn’t go 3D people would have gotten mad and accused GF of being lazy for sticking to 2D sprites. Imagine the uproar if XY, the first gen on the 3DS, didn’t go 3D. I remember people begging for the mainline games to have 3D graphics as far back as gen 4. I also remember disappointment when gen 5 was revealed to still be using sprites.

That said I do wish they kept 2D at least for gen 6. Gen 5 did a pretty good job and if they had another opportunity to refine the graphics and moving sprites it would have been great.

But yeah other than that I agree.

Its all about what's current for some people, gen 4 is "current" again so they have to like it, when gen 9 is announced they will go back to hating it to prop up the next gen

The game isn’t even out and they’re already telling people they need to download a patch first

How fucked is this game? Not in the sense of people buying it, it’s a Pokemon game so it will sell but fucked as in how it will work without the patch?

If the patch won’t fix the stubby arms, what’s the point?

Okay, visually, BDSP looks GREAT. I think ILCA outdid themselves with the visuals, they're fucking smacking SwSh around on that front.

What I have a big problem with though, the game feels kind of like a beta. It's a lot of little things, there's that Snowpoint softlock, most pokemon who follow you in the overworld can't keep up with you, there's that weird zoom thing you see with some of the trainer encounters, where the camera zooms in when they see you and speak to you, then zooms out and starts the battle... the transition from walking in the grass to wild battle feels just... wrong. Abrupt. Not to mention the GWS is completely locked until they bring in an update to officially implement it.

The games could have used a little while longer in the oven, and I would've preferred if they released the FULL game at launch without the need for game-breaking-fixing patches. Because based on the visuals, I don't want Game Freak to touch ANOTHER Pokemon game. But at the same time, even SwSh didn't feel as cheap as BDSP do in terms of functionality.

This is also more of a personal qualm, but I hate that they brought back breakable TMs. Having the TM and TR system in SwSh was perfectly fine.

What they need to fucking do is get a BIG team to work on the games. Not a small team of 12 or 52 people, this is a multi-billion dollar franchise, not some indie game. It deserves so much more.

And honestly, the sooner they fire Masuda or drop Game Freak, the better. Pokemon deserves so much more than a game director who purposefully and willfully leaves features out of a game because he thinks players are too stupid or have short attention spans. Fuck Masuda.

Wait seriously? I get that it changes TM distribution from a balance perspective, but there's no reason to punish players by having breakable, non-replaceable TMs. There's a reason they moved away from that system.

How could I give those hypocrites the 🗑️Dumb Rating?

TBH Its weird that Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby 7 years ago and did the 3D world/exploration better.

I chalk that up to Game Freak using it to further flesh out R/S/E as there was more that could have been done for them at the time after using X/Y to dip their toes into the 3D era.

Like people have said earlier in the thread, the first three mainline games in the franchise were pretty simple compared to gen 4 and onwards. The remakes served to help further flesh those games out and bring them to the modern era. On that front (despite some of ORAS's flaws), I'd say they succeeded.
