Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

From the 1996 Pokemon Red and Green guidebook that was translated into a 3-part video on the Didyouknowgaming Youtube channel(they even hired the guy that translated everything from Red/Blue until Platinum for it), the Pokemon canon was very different starting out.

The Kanto region(which was only named in the Japanese version of the Gen I games, the west didn't see any reference to it until Gen II) wasn't based on the Kanto region of Japan, it WAS the Kanto region of Japan. The games take place in 1996 on our earth, with the only difference being then existence of Pokemon(and the technology related to them) in it. Apparently Pokemon were discovered in the 1800's in France and they both evolve from and into normal-ass animals over the eons. The Pokedex entries for the Pokemon in this guidebook(which was written by Game Freak themselves)often bring up real-life events and places, and explained how for example Zubat was a divergent evolution of normal bats that share an ancestor. Lots of info on the Pokemon never printed anywhere else. The Pokemon were divided by habitat(like how they were in FRLG but with fewer classifications). Some interesting things include all of the trade evolutions not being stated outright to be evolutions of other Pokemon, but "speculated by scientists" to be related to them in some way(So the players would discover trade evolutions by accident), and also Arcanine and the entire Dratini line were classified under the "Legendary Pokemon" category(Growlithe was in the plains group, many Pokemon were in different groups than their evolutions/pre-evolutions in this guide).

It's a very interesting watch to see how different the videogame canon was when the series started out, by the time Gen II was released however the continuity was completely changed to be what it is to this day.

well, that explains why the G1 Pokédex entries sometimes reference real animals.

Anyone else finds it weird how Lt. Surge isnthe only instance of a country having an actual military?


Sure, there was an a war or two in the backstory of some of the movies; but that stuff gets brushed aside.

Which, with the benefit of hindsight, does seem to largely relate to galarian forms, pokemon, and other details. For example, the fruit bat in the top left is likely a reference to flapple, there's long meowth, fat pikachu and mothra butterfree

With that said, looking at this again I can't place all of them - the gargoyle, the red blob, the stickbug and the hitmonlee silhouette I'm all unclear on. But this is what that riddle leak is based on, and by and large the various leak sources are saying the same things.

The gargoyle could be in reference to Grimmsnarl.

I mean, X and Y’s entire plot involves Pokémon being used as WMD’s in what is strongly implied to be a parallel of the Gauls fighting the Romans.

I believe in either R/B/Y or G/S/C there was supposed to be a trainer class that was a soldier.


Yeah, okay, it was G/S/C, there's a scrapped Soldier class in one of the leaked developmental builds.

Yup, that's why I want Legends Arceus to do well and be awesome so we can have a game where I can have first hand experience of a Pokemon war and all of the other events mentioned in each region's history. Even if said hypothetical game takes place a bit later, exploring medieval Kalos would still be pretty awesome.
