Kind of a nitpick here, but calling Hisuian!Zorua and Zoroak the "spiteful fox" and "baneful fox" bothers me because those titles feel much more in-line with Ninetales, or a Ninetales variant.
Well that's because nineties are gay.

Personally I never thought Pokemon were grounded in reality, despite whatever the original intention was, and that's caused a few autistic tangents from me. They're larger than most animals (One of the smallest Pokemon, Joltik, a literal tick, is the size of a tarantula), but lighter as well (Groudon, one of the heaviest Pokemon, weighs less than an elephant). They're pocket monsters, fine, but they're hardly monsters at all, they were all designed to be giant stuffed animals that you could fit in your pocket.
I think what most people mean by "grounded in reality" they mean the anatomy or artstyle, not the designs. Of course Pokémon always had a fantastical element to them, that's the whole point, but the difference was all in artstyle. It's more cartoony now, meaning less rough details and more simplistic features.
Here's a comparison between Pidgey and Rookidee.

Having said that, Rookidee's eyes always bothered me. What the fuck is going on with its eyes? At first I thought it had that Badtz-Maru look going on.

But it turns out the white of the eye isn't even it's actual eyes? And the red part is?

Eh. Styles change over time and I've never had a problem with it's more cartoony take on things. The games are primarily marketed towards kids and if they want a more "rough" artstyled game there are other alternatives out there.

I think cartoony can be great, there are some great ones, but the problem is overly designed cartoony. They're just throwing too much into them, simple isn't always better but considering how much people love Wooloo they could stand to tone some things down.

I also desperately want those stupid ugly fossil pokemon to be put out of their misery and get that cute little electric velociraptor zolt in one piece. I will never forgive gamefreak for what they did to him and I have half a mind to start a petition (that they will ignore) over this injustice.

Could be that they’ll show up in Arceus. It is the past, after all.

About that, this is why it's considered the "Spiteful fox" pokemon:

Yeah, looks like Basculegion has some competition in the "dark, yet sad" backstory department.

For a long time people complained the newer Pokemon were too complex and looked like Digimon, and now they say newer ones are too simple. Older gen fans can’t make up their minds.

Also I don’t mind lower level unevolved Pokemon looking cartoony since most of the time they evolve into more detailed creatures.

There are a lot of complaints about human character designs not being grounded anymore but to me I enjoy those fantasy designs, Back in older gens there were a lot of technical restrictions meaning more simple designs but now I just want human characters that stick out and look interesting, There’s a pic that goes around vp all the time cherry picking specific characters while ignoring that some of them are like that for specific reasons, Elesa is a fashion model and Valerie is a fashion designer of course they will look over the top.

They aren't going to redesign their outfits at all? That's a shame, Team Galactic of all of them would really suit the rounder Pokemon art style and the zanier costume elements.
It's a shame they're so fixated on making them "faithful remakes".
Them showing the Platinum outfits but no hints of Platinum content was a real kick in the dick. *sigh*

We're never going to see the Distortion World in a 3D plane. (:_( (Reverse World in the 11th movie kinda counts, but I wanna see the game's version of it like that.)

Well they have already added a feature such as that underground cave were you can catch munchlax.
Yeah, but there's no sign of Looker, a "Distortion World episode", or the improved Battle Frontier. :(

I'll give them another 17 years, TPC is unapologetic with their nostalgia bait.

There's stories of kids not knowing a lick of English playing Pokémon Red/Blue all the way to the end. This parent is a lunatic to think Pokémon's not a child-friendly game.
A fish completed red and sapphire by random chance, Pokemon is probably one of the most user friendly game series of all.

I was honestly considering getting Diamond again but with the release of SMT V the week before and them not including Platinum content is lame.

Id put money on an expansion pass with plat content. Also the art style is so weird...like AlphaSaph/OmegaRuby are on 3ds and dont have a weird chibi look

I say they want a balance: they do not want 'MY DONUT STEEL EDGY OC' disasters, bu they do not want 'pocke toys', either.

Then again, did not people find Toucannon boring due to Toucannon being essentially a toucan... despite plenty of older Pokémon being 'just an imal'?

Either way, this thread mentioned a couple of videos talking about older designs already:
