I do not understand the point of the sheep, Bazeep already exists, or whatever its name was from gen 2. I can't wait for the game though, looks legitimately great.

Weird thing to wonder when there's so many cats and other animals that there's tons of already.

How many animals do you associate with the English countryside can you think of not already Pokemon without going into pedantic territory (like individual species of birds)? At least this one seems to be a different take on sheep because "electric pokemon because static in the wool and it also mega evolves into a dragon" seems pretty far from my sheep based expectations.

My guess is that Wooloo will be differentiated by Mareep by becoming more sheeplike as it evolves, instead of less sheep like Ampharos (fags at bulbapedia claim Ampharos is meant to be a sheared sheep but I don't see it at all, looks more like a nondescript fantasy creature plus the Dragon type mega evo is because it always had the word for dragon in its Japanese name)

The cover legendaries are kind of meh, and dynamaxing seems a bit dumb (hopefully they make sure to balance it so it isn't just a win button for kids). Other than that, though, I'm really excited. All of the other new Pokemon looked great, and the co-op raids seem pretty fun.

I was kind of hoping we'd get to see the second-stage starter evolutions, since I still have no idea which one I'm going to pick.

I think it was to balance thigns that were considered extremely powerful Gen VI meta. Hidden Ability Talonflame was widely used because of all Flying moves becoming priority, and then next generation Gale Wings got nerfed to only work when the pokemon is at full HP. It also happened to Mega Kangaskhan. Parental Bond used to provide a power boost better than a Life Orb (+50% vs +30%) without the HP loss, plus Power Up Punch sets were stupid broken because you got to do damage and sharply raise your attack stat at the same time. In Gen 7 they halved the damage the second attack does so it isn't better than Life Orb.
Those two plus Protean Greninja were the core of my main competitive team in Gen 6. Loved it.

I'm so happy Pokemon are still appearing in the overworld. That was one of my favourite things Let's Go brought to the table, and I'm pleased to see they haven't abandoned it.

Wooloo is more than likely based on the Scottish blackface (lol) sheep. Males and females have horns but the males have giant twisty horns. I imagine Wooloo's evolution will be a giant ram, Normal/Fighting probably, or Normal/Ground or Ground/Fighting. They'll also have to make it look different enough from Skiddo and Gogoat.

They could also be taking inspiration from the Valais blacknose sheep, of Switzerland, which is similar but doesn't have twisty horns.

It's notable that all the nerfs were with doubles/VGC in mind, aka the only battle format Game Freak cares about on a tournament level. Priority, mega Kanga, both were omnipresent in VI's meta. They hate priority so much they made an entire type immune to it in a sense too (in gen VII Dark types are immune to Prankster-boosted moves). Which is why the stupidest move in the game, Stealth Rock, will never be dealt with because hazards are never used in VGC.

One other thing I hope for in the new games is pretty minor, but more lore on the Mega Evolved pokemon. I thought it was pretty cool how even though they were discontinued after ORAS Gen 7 added pokedex entries for the mega evos. And even though Gen 6 tried to paint mega evolution as sunshine and rainbows, the mega dex entries show the reality is pretty dark with a lot of the mega evos being in berserker mode. It brought some depth into what started off as a mechanic based on the generic "the power of friendship" concept (so your pokemon trusts you enough that it'll willingly hurt itself/go on a rampage to be stronger in battle?) and I hope to see more of it, especially for the mega pokemon that didn't make it in the Alola dex.

EDIT:

I knew there was something fishy to those competitive nerfs if they didn't even touch Stealth Rock, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks for explaining.

I think Ralts is going to be in the Dex on account of a Kirlia I saw, so at least Garde and Gallade will get new dex entries. As long as they don't completely cut Megas.

My one wish for this game is there being entries for everything.

I don't want them skimping out on non-nationals again.

So apparently a leak on 4chan that correctly leaked pretty much every detail from the direct (two weeks back) contained plenty of other interesting news.

Read it here on this faggy news site.

  • Cross region evolutions are returning, or something close to them.
  • Some Pokemon get new forms when Dynamaxing because dude fuck mega evolution lmao, it's called Gigantomaxing and it's totally different from Mega Evolution because we here at GF are galaxy brains
  • Bump into online randos out in the field sometimes
  • Third legendary is evil
  • Scorbunny is going to be another fighter, though may not have fighting type
  • Sobble turns into a spy
  • Grookey turns into big gorilla with a drum
  • Electric Corgi Pokemon

From how it was worded, they made a typo and what they meant to say was it gets fighting moves but remains pure Fire throughout its evolutionary line(So it'll have the same typing as Typhlosion).

I will point out that most past leaks that turned out to be real are peppered in a few false statements in order to throw Gamefreak and/or Nintendo off, so there might be a few white lies in the posts that person made.

Does anyone here check out any Pokemon channels? I don't usually watch them but I've been watching False Swipe Gaming, I don't have the autism to get into the competitive scene, but watching the numbers get laid out on how each individual pokemon did throughout the generations is very fascinating. Nothing says powercreep like watching a pokemon that's been doing the same thing for years just drop lower and lower because the new guys do it better.

fml giantess Gardevoir is going to be a thing.
It is a thing actually. Have fun with that thought.
