When I said I was playing Vega, I was wrong, I was actually playing the prequel Altair Minus, this game is mostly a sequel to the Emerald game but the same stuff happens again with Wallace and Steven as leaders of the evil teams, story was quite boring since they try to change the map but not enough and you can clearly see the skeleton of the old games.

This Minus version seems to be a more lower level curve (and I still had to grind) and took me as 3 days of gameplay to finish it.

Most of the gyms are new types, so that is pretty cool. This was my team before entering the E4. Notice how since it is an older game, I had to continue swap HM slaves and couldn't make a balanced team of 6. 1000048081.png

The elite 4 were all different members with new pokemon, the last one was actually Norman with his normal types and the final champion was him, wally boy.

1000048083.png
We traded some K.O. until this was his last pokemon, the battle of pokewaifus would decide the new champion of hoenn. However....

1000048085.png

Shadowball is too strong and with two hits I was finally crowned champion. My team of shitters finally won after a bit of grinding in victory road.

I actually lost some battles in this game due to not healing and some bad matchups, I lost in the seventh gym to a duo of brother and sisters who countered my team hard. Overall I thought this game was pretty much a very similar experience with Chaos Black Recreated, however I much prefer that game story than just this rehash.
1000048087.png

Now... The postgame is different... Instead of going to the Battle Frontier, we will be going to Alto Mare! I always thought that this city should be added to the games, you can do so much with that setting. I plan to play more of the post game, I am actually curious to see who will we fight against in the place of Steven in the dragon cave.

This game was made by japanese, so I am quite curious what they are going to do with Vega instead, an original region game. What does it look and feel like it?

At least for now it's all gonna be moved to Pokemon Champions on Switch 1/mobile, meaning that they can all pretty much just hack their shit and all they'd need to do is just pass Home checks, but being that it's live service I can almost immediately smell some people getting banned if they bring a FreeMons Pokemon over or some shit.
I hope that since there IS a Pokemon Champions now, that maybe the next mainline game is at least willing to experiment with the battle system some more though. Quite frankly I think the classic battle system is fine as a concept, it is just in desperate need of an engine update/tweaking, even a speed up option like Dragon Quest would be fine.

I am actually hoping Champions has a Gym Leader Castle from the Stadium games.

I used to play competitively a lot many years ago but as I grew older fell out and prefer a challenging single player experience which I assume will barely be a thing in Champions - except for some rumors of what apparently will be a somewhat decent single player experience though nothing as close to the Stadium titles.

Many may not know but Altair/Sirius/Vega is a romhack made by japanese fans instead of people from other places. This explain so much stuff, even when it is an older game, you see a care in details that most adolescents who masturbate over nuzlockes and challenge runs with harder difficulty just based on just boring gameplay centric stuff.

This is the first game that I ever saw the implementation of Alto Mare, a city based on Veneza that was the place where the movie Pokémon: Guardian Gods of the City of Water: Latias and Latios also known as the way lamer title Pokemon Heroes. In the film this city showcases a level of integration with city/pokemon/humans that I always found very charming, even more when features Latios and Latias (pokemon based on Timaeus and Critias by Plato that speaks about Atlantis), in a city over water. Very fitting. The fifth movie is considered one of the best pokemon movies and incredibly nostalgic. The fans who did this game also showed their love for that forgotten city. This game is full of love in some parts.
1000048252.png

This city in the game is just completely massive and populated to the brim, there are some parts where the traversal is hard due to the position of the buildings and the weird tiles that separates from the water. It also features buildings with left and right entries. So it is kinda like a maze that is very big. The very first mission is to find 31 pretty stones in the whole city. This is a fucking terrible mission, why? You only gets a brief mention then the dialogue is gone, you dont keep the count in the backpack as regular or key items, so it is very hard to even know how many they are missing. I had to watch a video on youtube by someone who also clearly didn't know where they all where so we both entered various buildings in the city searching for these little shits.

After finding the pretty stones we can see latios and latias and capture them, we also get to fight both Brendan and May as one of them is the legendary trainer from 3 years ago and the other is the daughter of Birch. After this we get to challenge the Alto Mare gym, the ghost gym leader Sylvia. She has quite harsh personality as a trainer, most of the new characters have more personality but less than BW ones, but way more than original Brawly for example.

Also, inside the town there is a building where there is a table with all gym leaders where they get to talk with all each other about something in the plot and themselves. sadly unlike Chaos Black Recreated, we can't re challenge them.

I was intent in completing the whole post game, but as i complete the main mission, I entered a cave named Sphere Ruins... This may be the one of the worst map in any Pokemon game that I ever played. This cave has LOTS OF PUZZLES, but this isn't the usual pushing boulders or ice puzzles that you can slide around. It is that annoying kind, the one with various tips given by braille plaques inside the cave. So yeah, you already have puzzles, HM slaves to bring and guess what? The cave is fucking filled with pokemon. You may think this is normal, you just pop a repel and walk around like a king. The pokemon are high level... Way high level, to the point where repels doesn't work anymore. And guess what? As you continue to complete challenges, you keep going down and the pokemon levels keep increasing higher and higher. And guess what? There is also backtrack since you would need the acrobike to complete some puzzles.

This video has 45 minutes of just completing the cave puzzles and getting the necessary items

I did try to complete, but the more I went deep and I had to backtrack and do all over again the less fun it got. But guess what I found deep in the cave? 1000048254.png

These are the biggest challenges in terms of the battle in the cave, two subsequent battles with a team very close to your level and no healings in between.
1000048256.png 1000048258.png

These two are the antagonist characters from the fifth Pokemon movie.
1761821200420.png 1761821232439.png

Their fight was harder but I did complete it even when my PP was being eaten by random pokemon inside the cave. But not long after I beat them, I had to leave and bring in the acro bike, so as I watch the video and imitate in my game, I use the bike to jump the section and see that I missed something since my path is blocked by a stone and the video isn't. What the fuck did I miss? Will I do the same thing for 30 minutes to find out? No, fuck no, I just continued to watch the remaining 25 minutes as if I was the one playing.

As tou continue inside the cave, what is your prize? TMs, held items, even a fucking andidote. This is post game guys, we don't need this shit no more. But there is a legendary pokemon in the end. A pokemon that speaks to us, he says that if we beat the cave we can challenge him and in the video he is a lvl.90 beast pokemon (funnily the fodder pokemon is already lvl 100 in this section.

You fight or capture the legendary and complete this part of the mission that unlocks the next part of the post game: the big fight against the Alto Mare gym leader with improved levels.

I will continue writing later about this game in another post later.

Sorry to hear about your PP, I hope you got it back.
Kek, I was almost sleeping when I posted that.

But here is the continuation of my ramblings on this game.

One of the changed maps are the the museum in Lilycove, they changed to a library where you can read the books inside that talks about various changes and why they took place in the game. The whole new pokemon, the three legendaries that came from space and the affects of the meteorites in the whole of Hoenn. For example there isn't more Battle Frontier or Contests because it isn't profitable anymore. The two journalists that we can refight in the game wrote two journals covering the news. It is very good world building and it feels natural in a game full of changes.

But in this image, you can see that entrance. It is normally closed, but after you beat the elite 4 you can enter it.
1000048412.png

there we found a lab and a diary. One of the books talks about the artificial pokemon like the whole Porygon line. The diary gets more weird as the writer continues to write about the experiments and when we finish reading, wr get to fight a ghost pokemon.
1000048414.png

This diary is about Aldina, an artificial pokemon that is featured in the story

This is the dex entry for both games:
"Although it contains a powerful energy, the truth is that it is a human that was altered into a POKéMON--a pitiful and depressing existence."

"A girl from PACIFIDLOG TOWN that was reconstructed into a POKéMON through unknown means. Technically, it could be called an “artificial POKéMON”."

As we try to leave the room, we get attacked by Necrosia, another ghost Pokemon. I loved this bit, not only integrates the story and gives explanation to a very important character but also features one of the most important stuff: Pokemon are fucking MONSTERS, not pets or animals, they can come out of nowhere, including humans. The more games that comes out, with the exception of Ultra Beasts I feel like this origin gets more and more sanitized.

I went to capture Rayquaza and found Steven there, he said nothing and just used fly to leave, I thought he was going to be on Meteor Falls, but as I went there, he wasn't. The cave was also modified and there was another Legendary behind another puzzle. Not as hard as before but still didn't give you any visual clues. Just trying until you beat it.

1000048426.png

I also found two new fossil pokemons, a dog electric rock and a ptero rock/flying, quite cool monsters.

Man, what makes me happy about this game is that the few changes they made are good so Vega is an all original sequel. So I am quite curious to see how Vega will do all the original worldbuilding stuff.

I will be playing Vega Minus EX Fairy, a version that lower the level curve and additions from Deneb and Procyon, romhacks that I fear aren't finished or translated into english.

I am so hyped for this game. This time I will choose the Water starter that gave me lots of trouble in Altair Minus. Tanky MF

Out of boredom a sibling and I started playing Emerald Imperium which I've so far enjoyed but it's pretty tough compared to the games we played as kids. Been having lots of fun though.

The Romhack seems to have all the new pokemon but after seeing some of the latest stuff holy fuck are they getting lazy with some of the designs. The robot of "x" pokemon designs and whatever the fuck the zolt and vish pokemon are in particular.

On a related note, what are people's thoughts on the fan server that still hosts old Gen 4 and Gen 5 event distributions?
Totally fine, or cheating / heresy?

It's at https://pkmnclassic.net/ if anyone didn't already know.
That depends. I would consider them almost legitimate, since they are using the same code or devices, but a true and honest distribution must come from actually attending th event or distribution when the distribution was actually held.

I always love to bring this up.
Did not Z-A lready get a delay because of development concerns?

How tragically dramatic. If it's any consolation to you, PLZA sold fewer copies in its first week than both Scarlet/Violet and Legends Arceus. Despite the millions of people buying, the sales are trending downward. People for sure are dumb but they learn eventually.
Just wait until Gen 10 releases. Main games that bring a new generation always hav enormou sales.

The biggest reason official tournaments don't use 6v6 Singles like is popular on Showdown is that it takes too long. Too many Pokemon to knock out, and too many viable stall strategies.
That wa since the beginning. The first official Pokémon tournaments used the forma that would become the Pokémon Stadium format because a full 6 vs 6 format would be taking too long.

I've been watching some footage of Legends Z-A, and... how does this shit fly? How do people still consume this slop and think it's acceptable? If I worked for Game Freak (heaven fucking help me) and I was put in charge of this game, was told that the game had to take place entirely in Lumiose City, I would make damn sure every part of the locale would be crammed full of content in all parts of the city. Maybe separate the city into several districts and you unlock taxi stops and subway stations as you explore, maybe there are shopping arcades, rooftop sections, a sewer system with water and poison types, an underground tunnel with ground and rock types, an industrial part of the city with electric and steel types, a under-construction or abandoned part of the city with ghost types, maybe there would be a huge greenhouse or arboretum area that would act as the game's Safari Zone. Have twist and turns and alleyways between and behind businesses and residential homes that are fun and cool to explore. Maybe there's a huge shopping mall with coffee shops, clothing stores, book shops, a cinema...
You could do so much with just a city setting, and they chose to do nothing. A city that feels and looks lifeless, like it's a concept build you would show your boss in the first few months of development.
This almost has me wan to develop a hack based on this concept, but, even if I was not already into a hiatused remake of Scarlet and Violet, I would rather make a true and honest Legends: Kalos based on The Darkest Day.

So if you want to play a vanilla+ with improved level curves of the Crystal and modern QoL, you can go with this romhack Heart & Soul.
Have you seen Feraligatr's modified back sprite in that hack?

In a surprising twist in the “Nintendo trying to patent literally every mechanic tangentially related to Pokemon” arc - the Japanese Patent Office has denied Nintendo patents related to “Creature Capturing” mechanics.

To which I say - lul get fucked Nintendo, maybe make a Good Game Game Freak…

Just finished PLZA. The game was good. I feel like people are overstating how bad the graphics are. They're perfectly fine in gameplay. Even the environments are fine since your eyes are going to be focusing on points of interest constantly and not staring at the side of a building. They used the lighting engine well enough and the environments support the character and Pokemon models enough that I never felt like the game looked bad. It never wowed me but that's fine. It knew its scope and met it without being buggy or choppy to the point that I'm not sure what else people wanted out of it. I know there are subhumans who think Xenoblade Chronicles 2 looks good but those people have zero aesthetic taste.

With Poison vidya 'mons being Grass types in that early TCG and then Psychic in later TCG, that means that a Grass-type Ekans can be weak to moves from a Psychic-type Ekans.

Is it normal for copies of Super Mystery Dungeon to crap out? Like loading and loading and loading on that 3DS logo, and that error screen that one has to hold power off on?

Or did I get the dud?
